Chapter 34: BONUS - Big game (part 2)

Nerdy Girl Is Not So Nerdy [EDITING]Words: 33608

Four hours later, I wake up after my lovely nap, feeling like a new person. I over exaggerated, Melanie does have a influence on me. I get to the school gates, speaking to someone from the reception over the speaker, "Hi, I'm one of the players from the football team, care to let me in?" I informally say, even though I know I shouldn't be rude cause it was probably one of the teachers and knowing them, they won't hesitate in giving me a detention a week before we break up for summer holidays.

After about three seconds, I hear the gate buzzing, telling me to open it up and get inside. I meet my team on the pitch, but most of them are still on their way since the only people who are here is me, Peter Smith, Henry Cordell, Luciano Ramirez and Levi Davies.

For things like these, meaning football matches, and things that actually matter to me, I always arrive super early because not only does it make a good impression, which I certainly need to make today, but it also helps me prepare, get into my football-winning mind set.

I walk up to the four guys, seeing them stretch out so I instantly join. You'd think that after what coach O'Connor has put us through in the morning, I'd be tired and my body would be aching, but it kinda did the opposite, it helped me relax actually. And after I took my nap, I felt like I could honestly win the game and show there bastards how it's played.

Especially Jonathan Adams.

He's the quaterback for the East High Hawks. The ones who beat us by a single point last year. I'd love to take that annoying little smug off his face by holding up the gold trophy right before his very own eyes, without letting him touch it.

"You okay, bro?" Luciano and I fist bump and I give him a very confident nod, "Yeah, you?" I ask in return and he just smiles at me, "We're gonna take them down today, that is a promise"

"I know we will, I feel it coming" both him and I exchange a few looks before starting to laugh.

Luciano is a cool guy, I used to be close to him once. That was until I slept with his younger sister. I don't think he minds any more, cause it happened ages ago, but I can say that it definitely changed our friendship. He's probably put it behind him but never forgot, just like it kinda happened with me.

In about ten minutes, everyone arrives including coach O'Connor and we all do a group warm up. A physical one that we like to call pass the ball. It consists off players running around in as many different directions as possible and passing the ball around without stopping. As the warm up goes on, the coach starts throwing in more balls to make it harder for us and eventually he starts giving us different tempo's.

It's a little exercise that we do before any game, it helps our cardio, increasing our heart rate, putting us into the playing mind set. It helps with our technique and skills, it involves team work and a lot of eye contact and definitely spacial awareness.

After we do our physical warm up, we go onto doing a mental warm up we simply like to call a counting exercise. It helps with trust and teamwork for sure, our coach always says that not only do you have to be physically on the field but mentally as well, so that's what we're doing right now. The aim of this game is to count to ten and then back down. It's a concentration game. Sounds easy, but isn't

As soon as the coach claps his hands together we form a circle. Everyone is looking down into the field because every time we do this we make each other laugh, especially Johnny, the clown of the team. I always feel like I'm in a drama club or something when doing this, not a nice thought.

"You can start whenever" O'Connor tells us.

"One!" me and Johnny say at the same time.

"Come on boys, focus!" the coach shouts and I look at Johnny who's standing opposite me, giggling.

"One" Michael says, "Two!" and Johnny says right after, then there's a moment of silence where everyone is looking at each other, communicating with our eyes, asking who's going to speak next because we really don't want to start over again.

We get to ten and I instantly know that we're about to mess up because we're counting down from ten now and we always mess this part up because of the kind of people we are. "Nine!" Alex shouts. Okay Alex, jeesh.

We get to number six and Levi and Josh say the same number meaning we have to start again, from the top. This is why we hate this game.

After about another five tries, we actually make it to the end but coach O'Connor decides to give us another mental warm up because apparently we're not on it tonight and we messed up like 15 times.

"Okay, stay in a circle. We're playing pass the squeeze, we all know how that's played, right?" O'Connor claps his hands again and we all nod our heads but he still chooses to explain it, why does he do this to us?

"You're going to close your eyes, hold each other hand in hand and I'll walk around the circle and once I tap you on the shoulder, you choose the direction you're passing your squeeze, once it comes back to you, you say 'got it', clear?"

"Yeah lets go!" Luciano exclaims next to me, stretching his hand out towards mine, "Come on, daddy, give me your hand" he says with a creepy rape look on his face making the both of us laugh, "You're such a gay boy" I say and he pouts his lips making me laugh and shake my head.

He smacks the back of my head, "Aye papi, don't talk to me like that. Stupid boy" he jokes around and I can't help but laugh again. What can I say, having mexican friends is jokes.

I take his hand in mine and he interlaces our fingers together. I hate him. A smile creeping up onto my face. Jack Jones takes my other hand and we all close our eyes shut. I take a deep breath in through my nose and then breathe out through my mouth, when I feel a hand on my shoulder I squeeze Luciano's hand and not long till I get squeezed back by Jack.

"Got it!" I state and I hear the coach's timer stop.

"That was good. 3.6 seconds." he tells us the time and I look over at Luciano who's giving me a rape face once again, I can't take him seriously, he plays too much. "You've got nice hands, papi"

"Imagine the things they can do" I play along to his gay scenery as look him up and down before licking my bottom lip and raising one of my eyebrows at him. We both burst into laughter, "I don't wanna get fingered by you Dylan, now that's gay on another whole level man"

"Great work team, go change now, people will start coming in" coach states, looking at his watch on his wrist.

We all go into the changing rooms and I go into my locker, that's right next to Michael's, "What were you and Luciano talking about?" Alex asks. "Just joking about" I casually state.

"You do remember that you fucked his sister, right?" he asks with this look on his face that I can't read, what is he up to?

"Yeah I remember."

"You think maybe I can go to prom with her?" he says, squinting his eyes. "Don't even think about it. Besides, she's not in our year" I say indicating that there's no way he's going out with a girl that I slept with. Plus she's younger so they wouldn't let her to prom.

"At least I tried." he tells me, "Yeah you did. Next time ask him, not me, I'm not her brother" I tell him, closing my locker after I took all of my stuff out.

After we got changed, we just sat in the changing room, waiting for coach O'Connor to come in and give us one of his long ass speeches about playing fair and playing best. Not long till he comes in with his cap on his head. He only ever puts it on when we're playing against someone really good, the bar is high.

"Come in boys." he commands and we all huddle up, "I want you to play with the best of your abilities, think about team work, think about where you've come to, the barriers you had to overcome, the difficulties you've faced, yet you still made it to this point but most importantly, play fair. Cause there's nothing better than winning by playing fair. You deserve winning this year and I believe you will. What you need to do is believe it too. Hands in boys!"

We all put our hands in counting to three, "GO SHARKS!"

We all get into two lines and start jogging our way out through the main entrance while the cheerleaders lead us out. They get in their positions and start doing their little choreographies. Tina Raymond, the blonde captain of the cheer leading squad, looks straight at me sending me a wink making me roll my eyes.

Moments later, our team gets into position and I lightly glance around the stadium. It's filled with people from not just our school but from California Academy which is the school of the East Hawk jerks. Apparently, Merlyn hill high should be here to support us as well because of our deal for prom, but I'm not sure if it's true since I don't know anyone from that school.

I keep glancing around the audience and I spot two guys and a lady in suits with name tags on their shirts, pens and papers in their hands. They're here to watch us play and that's why I have to play my best.

My eyes land on Melanie, who's wearing a red t-shirt, hair in a bun and two red stripes on the sides of her face, painted with face paint to support me. I look to her right to see her cousin Eve with a massive red sharks foam hand, shouting at the top of her lungs, jumping up and down, cheering for us.

I shake my head and smile to myself. She's crazy.

When we stand on the line, the one and only Jonathan Adams greets me with his annoying face, plastering that disgusting victory smirk he had since last year, "Winning last year tasted great." he says rubbing it in my face.

"So did your sister." I fake smile at him as I strike back a comeback. A very true one actually.

His face stiffens up and with a scoff he returns to his position on the line, that's what I thought. "Heads or tails?" The referee asks me and since we're playing home, we get to chose. "Tails." I confidently say. Last year I picked tails as well but it landed on heads and the ball went to them.

"Heads." he states, "The ball is yours." he looks at Jonathan.

"I'm sensing a deja-vu here, Dylan" Jona-fucking-than annoyingly responds.

"We'll see about that" I mutter, nodding towards him lightly without even realising I've done that until seconds after.

As I get into my position, Jonathan starts the game off by kicking the ball. We automatically get tackled by our opponents and with adrenaline rushing through my body, I push one team members down from the opposing team, running straight past them.

"Johnny! I'm free!" I shout at Johnny, waving both of my hands in the air for him to see me since he just caught the ball but is surrounded by linebackers. He swiftly tosses the ball to me and I wait for the ball to get to me. Meanwhile, other players are already running towards me, trying to tackle me down.

I jump into the air to catch the ball before anyone else does and make the run. I sprint down to the end line, dodging past some players and jumping over their bodies that are laying on the floor.

Seconds after I hear the ringer buzzing telling everyone we scored a touchdown, I look at the board and see our zero turn into a six. Best feeling ever, how's that for deja-vu? I spot Jonathan in the middle of the field so I decide to provoke him and rub it in his face by pointing my finger at the score board and smiling from ear to ear. "See that Jonathan!" I doubt he heard me though.

I quickly look over at the inspectors before I return to my position, I see them scribbling stuff down into their notepads. Eleven minutes left. I mentally remind myself.

I jog back to the starting line and glance at coach O'Connor examining our each and every move, I can literally see him counting the speed we have to run at to get to the end of the pitch for another touchdown. Getting my head back into the game, I lower down in a defence position with the ball in my hand.

"Red 61. Set, hut!" I bark out loud and clear so that everyone can hear me. I throw the ball from underneath my legs and pass it to Luciano who's now sprinting his way to the end of the field for that touchdown.

With gritted teeth Jonathan battles his way over to me, trying to tackle me down. He elbows me in my stomach before tripping me up by putting his foot behind mine. I fall to the ground, slightly wincing as he falls on top of me, trying to keep me on the ground.

Luckily I hear the score buzzer ring again and I look over to Luciano and see him laying on the floor with his hand extended out of the end zone and an East High Hawk jerk holding him by his leg. Safety point. Another two points. I mentally keep track of the score and look at the time to see we have two and half minutes left.

As soon as Jonathan gets off me I start swearing at him, "You fucking idiot, you elbowed me! That's a foul!" I yell at him pointing a finger directly in his face while walking up to the referee.

"What kinda fuckery is this? You clearly saw that he elbowed me, that's classified as a foul!" I shout at the referee as well for doing a shit job.

"I didn't see anything." he softly says to both mine and the Hawks coach. Okay, what in the hell? I saw him looking right at us.

I open my mouth to swear once again but before I can say anything, I'm being dragged by my shoulder by coach O'Connor, "I saw it Dylan but the referee didn't and there's nothing you can do about it but play fair." he tells me and I escape his grip, standing opposite him.

"Why should I play fair when they're not?" I point my hand towards them, "Because there are people from very good colleges that are looking for people like you to offer them scholarships and they probably saw it too, so keep playing fair, just trust me, Dylan, okay?" I glance at the two men in suits and a lady sitting besides them looking straight down at us.

My eyes then trail further down and I see Melanie crossing both of her fingers before giving me a wide smile and a thumbs up. I look at my coach and give him a light nod. He pats my shoulder and then goes off to the side of the bench.

I return to the line and see the other team huddled up chanting 'go hawks'. I go to my team that's huddled up as well and very simply tell them to trust me, "On three. One. Two. Three. GO SHARKS!"

I clap my hands together before going into my position, I get lower down and place the ball onto the green pitch, taking a deep breath in through my nose and exhaling it out through my mouth. Two and a half minutes left, let's do this. I remind myself.

"Red 61" I call out and suddenly everything goes to slow motion, I see a few members of my team expressions which is shocked or confused. We just did the exact same combination, but I think this will work because it will give us time to make the run while the opposing team will have to recuperate from the surprise combo we're giving them. When I lift my head up to see Michael in front of me, he gives me a light nod telling me he get's what I'm trying to do, so without hesitation, I put my head down and give Luciano a quick look, "Set, hut!" I yell, passing the ball to the back.

Before we know it, Luciano scores another touchdown worth 6 points. We all start running from excitement, patting Luciano on his back, "Go Sharks! Go Sharks!" we shout and a while later we hear the whole crowd cheering with us. We all look around the crowd, everyone jumping up and down, their hands up in the air as the wind brushes past my face. I love the feeling I get when I'm on the field.

For the last 18 seconds, we get into position again, but we all know we can't really do anything with 18 seconds so we just wait for the referee to blow the whistle. As soon as he does I dodge my way from the outer corner and make way towards the end zone. "Micha-" Before I get to finish screaming my sentence the referee blows the whistle again, ending the first quarter of the game.

Unexpectedly Michael gets thrown to the ground with like three other players jumping on top of him. "Yo! The fuck is wrong with y'all, the game finished!" I make my way down to help Michael get up, Josh and Johnny running up to him as well.

"You okay?" I give him a hand which he takes and I swing him up, "Yeah, I think I've done something to my left shoulder" He truthfully tells us, massaging his shoulder with his hand while wincing, then trying to shake it off.

"You wanna sit out for the next quarter?" I ask him and he immediately starts shaking his head making me chuckle a little, "Nope. Nope. I'm fine" he convinces. That's just Michael, he'd rather be injured but carry on playing.

I take my helmet off when I see Melanie coming down towards me from the audience seats, so I walk up.

I capture her hips, motioning her to lean in closer to me and then wrap my arms around her waist, interlocking my fingers behind her. With a smile she looks down on me because she's standing behind the little wooden gate that separates the audience and the field and the floor is elevated really high.

"It's actually nice seeing you from the top for once" she says and having a dirty mind a smirk forms on my face, "What?" she confusingly asks, I shake my head whilst chuckling, "What?" she asks again.

"It's just the way you chose to phrase it" I laugh, my arms still around her waist while the little gate is keeping my hands from falling.

"Oh my god, Dylan, shut your dirty mind up" she then realises what she just said and starts blushing. "I try to but somehow it takes over me" I smile, showing my teeth.

"I can get used to this you know, you look really cute from the top" she says pinching my cheeks and I shake my head, laughing.

"Don't get too used to it." I say and loosen my grip on her waist, turning around from her and going back to the pitch since the second quarter is going to start soon.

"Dylan!" I hear her shout my name so I turn back around, seeing her smirk and motioning for me to come back with her index finger.

With a smirk playing at the corners of my mouth, I jog my way over to her, her arms wrapping around my neck instantly, her lips moving in sync with mine. I feel her smile under my lips and I open my eyes, pulling away from her while catching my breath. This gets me more breathless than running around on the pitch.

It's weird how I kiss her every day but it's like I'm kissing her for the first time every time I do.

She clutches onto my red jersey and pulls me into another kiss. She bites my bottom lip and I instantly pull away, bringing my hand to my mouth to see that my lip is bleeding. She actually made my lip bleed, wow, I hate her.

I stare at her up and down, a smirk still on my face. She has this weird expression on her face that I never saw before and I don't know what to think but I'm desperately trying to figure it out. As I keep staring at her and she's staring back at me, I get distracted by the referee blowing his whistle, calling us back onto the field.

I shoot her one of my flirty smiles alongside with a wink before turning my back on her, grabbing my helmet and putting it back on.

Time to play.

I get onto the line, shooting daggers at Jonathan. "It's weird when you think about what money can buy you, right?" he says looking at the referee.

That annoying motherfucking piece of shit.

He fucking bribed him.

Because of the realisation, I was out of it the whole second quarter. His words just kept ringing in my head. Rich assholes always get what they want. Before we know it 15 minutes are over and the referee calls half-time. We're losing 16-18.

All the footballers go on break while the cheerleaders take over but before they do a blonde headed girl starts making her way over to me.

"You okay, Dylan?" she sympathetically asks, "I will be" I shortly state walking away from the blonde haired girl dressed in a red and white cheer leading outfit.

As I turn to leave she grabs me by my hand, "hey Dylan, I know you will. Good luck" she opens her arms for me to hug her. With a sigh I wrap my arms around her shoulders because of how small she is, I then quickly pull away thanking her as she calls my name out again.

"What you doing after? Maybe you and I can celebrate" she slowly says with a flirty tint to her tone, playing with the ends of her hair whilst biting on her bottom lip, looking me eye to eye.

"I'll be celebrating with Melanie" I make it short and quick. "Are you seriously gonna pick that nerd over me?" she asks as if it wasn't obvious, "I can give you what you want, something she can't give you" she then carries on persuading me.

With a laugh I respond, "Not interested, Tina"

"You know where to find me if you change your mind" she winks at me and then leaves to join the rest of her cheer leading squad on the field.

"Don't worry, I won't".

With anger rushing in my veins, I make my way over to the little vending machine, coach O'Connor is most likely going to kill me if he sees me buying KitKat but I need something to calm me down.

I start to rip the wrapper up when I hear someone applauding behind me, the claps getting louder because of the echo in this corridor. I turn around to see the face of the person who I terribly didn't want to see, Jonathan Adams.

I roll my eyes very noticeably, before looking at him with disbelief and pure hatred. He makes his way over to me but I pray to god that Michael or one of the other boys will soon come to rescue me.

"Nice chick" he points outwards talking about someone but I'm not exactly sure who, "The cheerleader?" I ask and he immediately shakes his head and that's when it hits me, he's talking about Melanie.

He must be because she's the only girl I've talked to other than Tina tonight. A sudden wave of heat overpowers my body making blood boil inside me, I'm already angry as it is, now to add him to the list.

Just... please don't say anything stupid.

"Is she one of your bitches too? I bet she tasted great as well." Yep. He said something stupid. Being unable to control my body something in me just snaps. Adrenaline and rage takes over me, my hands ball up into fists, my knuckles changing colour from a normal colour to white because of how tight my grip on him is.

I back him into the white tiled wall behind him, my hands still on his jersey. "Aww, she actually means something to y-" cutting him off with a punch, my right fist collides with his left cheek making him stumble to the side and then tripping over his own feet.

I walk over to him, anger still rushing in my body, I exhale a deep breath out, "Why don't you go and tell your referee now?" I spit, the words poisoned like venom.

I make my way back to the field as I see Josh, Johnny, Alex and Michael walking towards me, "Where in the hell were you dude?" Michael asks me and I just realise I forgot my KitKat in there, "Shit. I forgot my chocolate" I curse and I get a little chuckle from the twins.

"Jonathan was being a dick so I punched him" I explain to them and questions are thrown on me like it's a job interview, I look over at Johnny who's jumping in the air, clapping and punching his brother in his shoulder from excitement, "I'm proud of you man, he deserved that" he pulls me in a hug pretending to cry.

I laugh, "Although I would be prouder if I was there" he pulls away and instantly pulls me back in a hug pretending to cry again, "But I'm still very proud" what kind of energy drink did he drink?

"Where is he now?" Alex asks, "Maybe still laying on the floor processing what just happened? I don't know" I honestly say, "Yeah but where is he?" he asks again so I point towards the corridor with the vending machine in.

"You sure you're okay?" Michael asks me just like he always does, my older brother. I just nod, "Why did you even punch him in the first place?" as soon as he asks me that I glance over at the audience looking for Melanie, when I spot her I see her talking to Eve and Alicia making me slightly relieved.

"Oh no, dude, don't tell me it's because he said something about Mel" Michael reads my mind, "What was I supposed to do? That guy bribed the referee, he could basically win the whole match and then he started talking about Melanie and it made it worse because I got angrier so I just punched him and I instantly felt better" I explain.

"Calm down, bro, relax, breathe and chill" Michael puts both of his hands on my shoulders, "Wait, did you say bribe?" he asked in confusion and I only nod, "He bribed the fucking referee?" he exclaims louder and I put my hand over his mouth. "He could win the whole fucking match right now if he wanted to" he whispers and I nod again, "I know, that's what I said, weren't you listening to me at all?"

"You should have buried him six feet down and not just punched him" I can see he's getting angry because his face is getting redder, "Oh so now you tell me to beat people up"

"Okay, calm down. It's a chill, we just need to play fair like O'Connor says and we'll get him" I tell him but he slightly cuts me off, "O'Connor can go fuck himself, why should we play fair when that dickhead elbowed you!" he shouts and I instantly regret letting him talk on because O'Connor is right behind him.

"He's behind me right?" he says really softly, judging from my expression he knows he's right.

Michael turns around and starts apologising for what he said while I tried so hard not to break out into laughter. Not long after coach chases all the players from our team and leads us to the changing rooms. Another speech. Yaaay.

"Guys, gather around." he commands and stands on a bench to see everyone's faces, "I know we're loosing by two points and I know that the hawks aren't playing fair but there's nothing we can do because I spoke to their coach and he says it's absolute crap. We just gotta work with what we have." he honestly says and we can tell that he's taking the blame and feels guilty.

"But look at the bright side. We've got two quarters left and in these two quarters anything can happen-"

"Yeah, they can win" he gets interrupted by Henry.

"Not if you won't let them! It's your decision boys, play fair or play like the scumbags on the field. I guarantee you one thing, it's so much better when you know you deserved to win because you stuck to the rules, stuck to playing fair, believed in your abilities and trusted your team. I believe in every one of you! I trust every one of you! AND WE'RE GONNA KICK SOME ASS THIS NEXT QUARTER!" he shouts and points his fingers around the room.

Unexpectedly someone starts clapping next to me and I look to my side to see it's Johnny, pretending to cry again, "That was beautiful" he softly says pretending to whimper and wipe away a fake tear on his cheek. We all look at him, seriously, what did this dude take?

"Too soon?" he ask and me and Michael nod, pursing out lips into a thing line. Suddenly there's an awkward moment of silence until I decide to step onto the bench beside him, I'm the captain of this team and I'm gonna motivate them just like coach does, or at least I'll try.

"Coach is right. We worked our asses off for this game, for what? Just to get beaten again? Nah, we can't carry that burden on our shoulders, we got to get our butts in the game and show them what we've been working towards, we can't let these cheating bastards win again. Only we know how much pain we had to endure to get to here, only we know how much time we spent on the fields, day and night trying to come up with better combinations, better positions, trying to get faster and stronger. We're going to take them down."

Silence.

Well this is awkward.

Everyone's staring at me.

"Aye, papi, I'm in" Luciano stands on the bench opposite me and makes his joke again, "Thanks for breaking the silence in a totally weird way" I laugh, "No problem, amigo... I need to be stopped" he says as soon as he realises he's taking his jokes too far.

"I'm down!" Johnny shouts, swinging his fist in the air. Not long till everyone catches on and starts whistling and shouting 'sharks.'

"What team?" I shout and it echo's throughout the whole changing room, "Sharks!" the team responds.

"What team?" I shout again.

"Sharks!"

"Sharks..." I say waiting for them to complete my sentence, "Get ya head in the game!"

I've always wanted to do this. I smile to myself.

"High school musical, who says we have to have to let it go" out of no where Luciano starts singing the high school musical song while swinging his hands from side to and and everybody looks at him and starts laughing, "Nah man, that's too soon" Alex says chuckling.

"Too soon man" Josh repeats, "That's the gayest shit I've ever seen" Johnny exclaimed, laughing his ass off.

We make our way onto the field again, pumped up with the thoughts and intentions of winning, so what they bought the referee, we got skills and that something they can't buy.

The referee blows his whistle, we instantly get on the starting line and into position. The hawks have the ball but that doesn't mean we won't steal it from them, Michael is like the best tackler in California, not even exaggerating, we're winning whether they like it or not.

"Red 61. Set, hut!" I hear Jonathan call out. Are they fucking for real? Doing the exact same combo we did twice? They must be really loosing their hope.

As soon as he passes the ball back, I make my way down the field, waiting for Michael to tackle one of the players and throw me the ball, once he does, I catch it and see a group of players running my way. Thinking about how many races and how many meters we had to run, I sprint my way down faster with every intention of getting that touchdown.

As I almost reach the end zone, a hand unexpectedly grabs my leg making me wobble my way to the ground, but I instantly think of a back up plan that I often trained during night time. As I fumble my way down, I get onto my knees and roll my way over to the end zone, standing up and throwing the ball into the ground. "Touchdown!" I yell in excitement.

I have to admit though this was a heavy round. 6 minutes left. I mentally remind myself.

We get back to the line, this time it's our ball.

"Blue 18. Set, hut!" I shout without hesitation, throwing the ball down to Luciano, who's now sprinting his way over to the end zone but gets thrown to the ground, Jonathan instantly stealing his ball. I race over to him but pointlessly because he threw the ball right to the end of the field because there was no other way out for him.

OH MY GOD. YES. MICHAEL CAUGHT IT. TOUCHDOWN BABY!

I internally scream when I saw the ball in Michael's hands. Our team starts running towards Michael while screaming our name "Sharks!" we pat him on the back, jumping from side to side and running around like idiots.

The bribed referee tells us to get back onto the line with only 21 seconds left to the game. So far so good.

After another and the last quarter, we scored another touchdown, they didn't even touch the ball. "Go home pals!" I hear johnny shouting at them before our team gets into a group hug. Suddenly I feel like am being lifted up and I realise that I'm on my teams shoulders. Everyone is going crazy, the crowd is chanting and whistling, the cheerleaders are dancing with their pom-poms in the sky.

I can't believe we won 36-21.

They put me back down and I take my helmet off when I see Melanie running down the stairs and opening up the little wooden gate, stepping down onto the pitch. Eve and even Alicia following her down.

My Melanie starts pacing around, dodging cheerleaders on the pitch to swiftly get to me, when she does she jumps at me, wrapping her legs around my waist, lustfully brushing her lips against mine. "I'm so proud of you" she excitedly says, her voice relaxing every muscle in my body. Hearing it from her is the only opinion I need.

A grin forms on my face when she interlocks her hands behind my neck, coming in closer to kiss me once again, rummaging her fingers in my messy hair at the back of my head, "I... L -" suddenly I stop myself from talking, beginning to get lost for words, a million things going on through my mind, but every one of those thoughts were to do with one question: Why didn't I say it?

Was I actually going to say that sentence? I mean, I've only ever said it once but it definitely didn't make me feel this nervous. I don't use the sentence very often, if at all, but somehow I feel like now it's the time to tell her.

Being together for almost half a year is a good enough length to wait until you say the three words right? I ask myself.

I open my mouth to speak again, but suddenly nothing comes out and I start regretting the fact that I even tried attempting to say those three little words that seem so easy to say but they're really not.

"Hello, earth to Dylan" Melanie's hand waves past my face a couple of times. Before I get to come back to reality, I blink a few times, letting my eyes adjust to my surroundings because of the big lights beaming in my eyes.

"Are you okay?" she asks me with her soft voice, I look in to her eyes and see that there's something wrong, something's going on.

I shake the thoughts in my head aside and fake a smile, "I just pictured you in your prom dress" I cock my eyebrow. She lightly chuckles and pecks my lips before I let her down onto the field. "I just realised how small I really am, when you have your uniform on"

"It's okay, it's adorable" I laugh and pat her head and see her rolling her eyes.
