Mafia Kings: Dario: Chapter 28
Mafia Kings: Dario: Dark Mafia Romance Series
We ate lunch at a beautiful restaurant in old Florence. The tables were set with white linen and crystal glasses, and the food was amazing.
âThe only time Iâve eaten a better meal was at your house,â I told Massimo.
He patted his full belly. âTwo out of two experts agree.â
âYou gotta admit, though,â Valentino said, âthat place in Rome we go to is better.â
âHey â the lady just applauded our cooks at home,â Massimo said good-naturedly. âTake the compliment, huh?â
âI would hope you think certain things are better at home,â I told Valentino with a trace of irritation in my voice.
âUh-oh, sounds like Iâm in trouble,â Valentino said.
âSounds like it,â Massimo agreed.
âWhatâd I do, exactly?â Valentino asked me.
âYou were flirting with every woman in the store when youâve got a wonderful woman at home.â
âAh,â Valentino said as though he finally understood. âLook, Caterina went into this with eyes wide open. I never lied to her. She knows what I am.â
âAnd whatâs that?â I asked in a deadpan voice.
âA man-whore,â Massimo answered.
I laughed.
Valentino held out his arms like, What can I do? âI am what I am and I want what I want.â
âAnd what do you want?â
âEverything,â he said with a grin.
âI hope youâre not including me in âeverything,ââ I said coolly.
Valentino raised a finger like he had forgotten something. âI meant to say, âEverything that wouldnât kill me if I got it.ââ
âWhat, youâre saying Iâd kill you?â
âNo â Dario would,â Valentino said. âAnd thatâs the truth.â
I made a face like I didnât believe him.
âDarioâs very protective of you,â Massimo agreed.
âI thought he was just very⦠possessive,â I said darkly.
âDario doesnât care about much. But what he does care about, he guards with his life.â
âWhy did he kick me out of the house, then?â
ââWhy did he kick me out,ââ Valentino said, gently mocking me. âA couple of days ago, you risked everything to leave.â
âWellâ¦â I said, not wanting to admit he had a point.
âHa â you know Iâm right.â
âThat doesnât explain why he sent me away.â
âThere was a meeting with a potential business partner,â Massimo explained. âI suppose he wantedâ¦â
Then he trailed off.
âWhat did he want?â I asked.
Massimo and Valentino looked at each other, then laughed.
âWhatâs so funny?â I demanded.
âI canât even lie,â Valentino said with a grin. âDario didnât want you gone â â
âNiccolo did,â I finished.
âYup.â
âBut why?â
âProbably for the same reason he only lets Caterina work half a day,â Massimo said.
âAnd whyâs that?â
âSo Valentino isnât slipping off to fuck her every chance he gets. He only gets to do it in the mornings.â
âOh my god!â I cried.
âWhat, your virgin ears canât take the truth?â Valentino said with a laugh. Then he suddenly acted serious and put his hands over the sides of his head. âMy virgin ears canât take your screaming when you and Dario get together.â
I turned bright red and hid my eyes with my hand.
Massimo laughed but scolded Valentino at the same time. âStop teasing her.â
âOh my god, oh my god, oh my godâ¦â I murmured, mortified.
Valentino howled with laughter. âFunny, thatâs what you say with Dario â just louder and higher-pitched. âOh my god, oh my GOD â ââ
âSTOP IT!â I cried out as I threw a dinner roll at him.
âNo food fights, children,â Massimo chided us playfully.
âYes, Dad,â I said, half-joking and half-annoyed.
âThe truth is, weâre glad youâre with him,â Massimo said.
âCan we please stop talking about this?â I begged.
âIâm talking about in a general sense. Not in a Valentino kind of way.â
âWhat, sex in the kitchen pantry?â Valentino asked.
Massimo made a face. âYou do it near the food? Come ON, manâ¦â
âPLEASE can we stop talking about this!â I whispered.
âAlright, alright. But I am glad youâre here,â Massimo said. âAt the house, I mean.â
âWhy?â
Massimo smiled. âBecause Iâve never seen my brother happier.â
