20s Dance

Mira's POV

It's been four days since Jeremy, Gray and I returned to Mystic Falls. I've been staying with Matt, as it's safer. Anyway, tonight is the decades dance. Which is the 20s not the 70s. Luckily Caroline got me an outfit and her mum can mind Gray tonight. Which means we can relax and have fun.

(Mikaelson mansion) Third Persons POV

In the living room, Klaus is being creative working on an abstract painting on an easel. Rebekah/Esther enters. "What took you so long?" he demands.

"Alaric didn't want to hand over the stake. Luckily I'm quite the charmer" she says showing him a stake.

"That's it?" he asks her.

"The last of the white oak stakes that can kill us. Do you want to do the honors or shall I?" she asks offering it to him. Klaus puts the paintbrush down, takes the stake from Rebekah/Esther and throws it into the flames in the fireplace. The flames flare up around the stake. "Well that's that then" she states.

"Pack your bags, we're leaving" Klaus tells her.

"Today?" she asks.

"Why not? There's nothing keeping us here. We'll grab the doppelgänger and be off by sunset" he states. Making a mental note to grab Mira and Gray while they grab Elena.

"But tonight is the decade dance" she tells him.

"So?" he asks her.

"So, I'm head of the committee, we have to go" she tells him.

"I'm not going to any dance" he tells her.

"Caroline said Mira would be there" she tells him.

"That means nothing to me" he lies.

"Please, I have big plans for tonight. Just go for me" she pleads.

"Okay, fine. One last hoorah" he relents. Thinking about Mira, he wonders what she'll be wearing tonight at the dance.

"One last hoorah, Nik" she says with a smile.

(School gym) Mira's POV

Elena and I are helping set up the gym for tonights dance. Gray is strapped to my back. Caroline is with us. While Matt and Jeremy are hanging stars from the ceiling. Rebekah is supposed to be here, but she isn't. "So, Alaric is trying to pull himself together, why is that a bad thing?" Care asks Elena.

"I just...I wish there was something I could do" Elena tells her. I pick up a plastic chandelier and Elena takes it from me. "Where do you want me to hang this thing?" she asks. Caroline takes the fake chandelier.

"You know what, if Rebekah wanted to hang this monstrosity she should have shown up to do it herself" she states. She handed it to a passing student. Before looking at Matt and Jeremy. "What are you doing? You can't just hang them! They're supposed to trickle down" she tells them.

"Trickle, duh!" Matt says and I giggle.

"Look at them all bromancy" Care says.

"Yeah Mira asked Matt to help Jeremy readjust. He got him his old job back at the Grill" Elena tells her.

"Matt has really helped Gray and I readjust also" I add.

"That was nice of him" Care states.

"Jeremy has got a lot on his mind. The whole thing with Alaric has got him really stressed out" Elena tells us.

"I still can't believe Ric has an evil alter-ego" I tell her.

"You sure it has nothing to do with witnessing you and Damon getting hot and heavy in a skeevy motel?" Care asks her.

"Mira" Elena whines.

"What? I swear I didn't tell her that so she could torture you with it" I assure her.

"Aww, what are friends for? So who are you bringing to the dance?" Care asks Elena. As she already knows I am going with her.

"What do you mean? I thought you, Bonnie, Mira, and I were going as girl dates" Elena says confused.

"Hm, Bonnie has a date" we tell her.

"What?" she asks.

"Jamie called and wanted to see her so she asked him" Care explains. "So here's a thought, why don't you ask Stefan?" she suggests.

"I can't ask him on a date, I just made out with his brother" Elena reminds her.

"All the more reason! Look you're supposed to be figuring out what you want, that's what Stefan wanted you to do, right?" Care asks her.

"Yeah, but-" Elena tries to say.

"But nothing! I've watched The Bachelor, okay? Fair is fair. It is Stefan's turn" Care tells her.

"Personally I think you should forget Stefan and just date Damon" I add.

"Yeah and neither of you biased or anything" Elena mutters.

"I'm sorry, but Stefan is your epic love. And I'm not going down without a fight" Care tells her.

"I am, the idiot killed me. Choose Damon" I tell Elena.

"What about you?" Elena asks me.

"What about me?" I ask her.

"All this talk about my love life, why don't we set you up with someone" she states.

"Yeah, I'll see you guys later" I tell them and leave before they could start listing guys.

(Time skip)

Matt and I are at the dance with Caroline. Bonnie is on the dance floor with Jamie. The dance is in full swing. "Have I told you how amazingly awesome you are?" Care asks Matt.

"Yeah, I'm one of the good ones, I know... Why the compliments, what else do you want?" Matt asks her.

"I know that you and Elena have been getting closer lately" Care states.

"Where are you going with this Care?" I ask her confused. Matt nods his head in agreement. Also looking confused.

"One way or the other she is pretty much spoken for" she states.

"Elena is my friend, Caroline. And my son's aunt, I'm just looking out for her" Matt tells her.

"And I'm just looking out for you. Because sometimes the people who love her get caught in the crossfire" she states.

"That's true" I agree. "Is that Tyler?" I ask surprised.

"What's he doing here?" Matt asks us and we shrug. Care goes over to Tyler. "Care to dance Mira?" he asks me.

"Why not" I say with a smile and he leads me to the dance floor. He picks me up and spins me. I laugh. "Have you been practicing?" I ask him.

"Maybe" he admits and I giggle. As a slow song starts and we start to waltz. Soon Matt stops looking behind me. I follow his gaze to see Klaus in a white suit. "I'm gonna go see if Elena or one of the others wants a dance" Matt tells me.

"Don't you..." I start to say. But he leaves me standing there. I sigh and turn to face Klaus. "Good evening Klaus, you look dapper" I state.

"Thank you Mira, you look lovely" he tells me. "May I have this dance?" he asks offering me his hand. I nod my head accepting his hand and we begin to waltz. "You would've loved the 1920s, Mira. The girls were reckless, sexy, fun. They literally used to dance until they dropped" he explains.

"Did that ever happen to their dance partners?" I ask him.

"Sometimes, perhaps" he says. "I'm leaving town tomorrow. I'd invite you to come with me but we both know you're not ready to accept my offer. Perhaps one day, in a year, or even in a century you'll turn up at my door and let me show you what the world has to offer" he states.

"Perhaps, but right now my place is here raising my son" I tell him. "Who knows, maybe I'll try dating again" I add.

"You mark my words. A small town boy, a small town life, it won't be enough for you" he tells me.

"Who said anything about me dating a small town boy?" I ask him. "Listen Klaus, I really liked you. A lot, but I can't stand secrets. Who knows maybe if one day you will be ready to be honest with me or anyone about your past. Maybe then we could have work" I tell him. I kiss his cheek and then back away. "Thank you for the dance, I'm gonna go find my friends" I tell him and leave him standing there.

I find them all in Alaric's classroom. What the hell is going on? Matt explained the situation. Esther is back and has Elena. She placed a spell around the school to stop the supernatural from leaving. Though the humans are leaving with no problem. Stefan arrives with Klaus. "Here. Jeremy made a little Gilbert blood donation for your locator spell" Damon says handing something to Bonnie.

"I have to do this with you two lurking over me?" she asks annoyed by his and Klaus' presence.

"You're still mad at me for what happened to Abby. Let me apologize. I'm sorry Elijah forced us to turn your mother into a vampire to save Elena's life. Didn't exactly have a choice" Damon tells her.

"There's always a choice. Whenever you make one someone else suffers" she snaps.

"Enough you two, my twin is in danger and you're bickering like a pair of five year olds" I snap.

"You're right, sorry Mira" Bonnie says. She pours the blood onto the map and starts chanting. "Phasmatos Tribum Nas Ex Veras, Sequita Saguines, Ementas Asten Mihan Ega Petous" she chants and the blood does not move. "Esther is fighting me" she tells us.

"Esther couldn't possibly have this much power. Unless she's channeling something" Klaus states. He thinks for a moment. "Get the humans ready. I know where she is" he declares. Matt and Jeremy got ready with some weapons from Ric's weapon closest. Klaus gives them the location and they leave after I wished them both luck, telling them to be careful.

(Time skip)

Esther is dead and hopefully she stays dead this time. We were free to leave the school. I picked up Gray and ran to the cemetery. Where I said goodbye to Ric and he hugged Gray one last time. Before I took Gray back to Matt's. He is at the grill with Jeremy. I put Gray to bed and got ready for bed myself.

I call Klaus. "Mira, this is a surprise" he says.

"I wanted to check in, did you find Rebekah?" I ask him.

"Yep, she was daggered. Will be up by morning cursing that she didn't get to go to to the dance" he tells me.

"I'm sorry about your mother being so mean" I tell him.

"Not your fault" he tells me.

"Are you really leaving town tomorrow?" I ask him.

"Yes" he says.

"Promise to stay in touch?" I ask him.

"If you want me to" he states.

"I do, I'll miss you Klaus and I hope you find happiness" I tell him.

"Maybe one day we'll meet again" he tells me.

"I'd like that" I tell him. "I'm gonna call it a night, but I hope to hear from you tomorrow before you and Rebekah leave" I state.

"Sweet dreams love" he tells me and I smile.

"Goodnight Klaus" I say and hang up. I go to bed and fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Dreaming happy dreams.
