Chapter 127
A One Night Stand With My Boss ( Maia Sanchez )
Chapter 127
âEverything looks normal on your health report.â Dr. Carterâs steady gaze met Camilaâs as he spoke.
Camila furrowed her brows slightly, a hint of barely noticeable tension in her voice. âReally? But why do I sometimes feel my heart racing? Itâs so intense it feels like it might burst out of my chest?â
Dr. Carter reviewed the report again carefully, then looked up gently, âMy dear, I can assure you, there is nothing abnormal in this report.â
He paused slightly, seemingly choosing his next words carefully. âHave you ever been in love?â
Camila hesitated. If her relationship with Tucker counted, then yes. She nodded slightly.
âDid you feel something similar then?â Dr. Carter continued to probe.
Camila shook her head firmly.
Dr. Carter smiled, a glint of understanding in his eyes. âDoes this feeling only occur when a certain person is around?â
Camilaâs brows knitted together. âDoctor, are you suggesting that this feeling might be a physiological response to being infatuated?â
Well, it seemed to happen mostly around Connor.
Camila shivered involuntarily. No way. Did she have a crush on her boss?
That wouldnât do. Her feelings should only be the kind reserved for a financial benefactor!
Dr. Carter nodded gently. âExactly, my dear. The symptoms youâve described are likely natural responses to an attraction. When we encounter someone who draws us in, our body releases hormones like adrenaline and dopamine, causing our heart rate to speed up. We even feel a sense of inexplicable nervousness.â
Camila managed a smile. âI see, thank you. Iâm relieved the report is fine.â
Dr. Carter returned the smile warmly.
As Camila walked down the hospital corridor, images of Connor flashed through her mind. He had a good physique paired with his impeccable looks. He was also young, handsome, and wealthy, undeniably the type many women would flock to.
Camila tapped her forehead. He was her boss. She couldnât harbor inappropriate thoughts! The company had a strict noâfraternization policy, and some of her predecessors had been fired for lesser transgressions.
Her life goal was to make money to support her mother. She couldnât afford to lose her job! Besides, Connor didnât even like her.
âSnap out of it, Camila!â
Her phone rang. It was Erica.
âWhere are you? Iâve bought some cupcake ingredients, and Iâm now headed to your place.â
up?â
âIâm at Fairmount Hospital. Can you swing by to pick me up?â
âHospital? Why are you at the hospital?â Ericaâs voice immediately tensed. âWhat happened? Are you feeling alright?â
Camila quickly explained, âDonât worry, Iâm fine. Just went for a routine checkâup, and all indicators are normal. No need to panic.â Erica seemed to relax a bit, but her voice still carried a hint of urgency. âAlright, stay put. Iâm on my way to get you. Donât wander around. Just wait there.â
After hanging up, Camila slowly walked toward the hospital lobby.
In less than half an hour, Erica arrived at the hospital entrance, and Camila bent down to get into the passenger seat.
As soon as Erica saw Camila, her sharp eyes scanned her from head to toe, her face filled with concern. âCamila, are you really okay?â Ericaâs voice was eager. âYou look a bit pale. Are you sure youâre not feeling unwell?â
âIâm really fine. It was just a checkâup. Look, hereâs the report.â Camila handed the health report to Erica.
Erica took the report, carefully checking each indicator, her brows gradually smoothing, âHmm, indeed, thereâs nothing wrong. But what made you decide to get a checkâup all of a sudden?â
