Chapter 21
âWhereâs Mr. Connor order?â Camila asked
âIt seems like Mr. Connor didnât order for himself, just for the staff, Marissa replied, her forehead crinkled in confusion. âAnd this tea time is way too early. I havenât even digested lunch yet.â
âItâs all sweets. Mr. Connor doesnât eat those,â Alan added, equally puzzled.
1l go help distribute them. Iâve left yours at your desk, Marissa told Alan.
âThanks. !âll have some when I get back,â he smiled at Camila, âLooks like weâre in for a late night at the office. Mr. Connor is sweetening us up in advance.â
âAt least thereâs overtime pay,â Camila chuckled.
She and
After they left, Camila opened the afternoon tea bag and was pleasantly surprised. This bakery was expensive! She and Erica loved the desserts from this place. A piece of cake was seventy to eighty dollars with a cup of iced tea. It could cost thousands for the hundreds of employees in the company.
It seemed the boss was in a good mood!
Through the floorâtoâceiling windows, Connor saw Camila enjoying the treat, and he smiled unconsciously.
Refueled by the sweets, Camila was a
all fired up for t the afternoon, focused intently on her computer
âTime to leave, Connorâs deep voice resonated through the office.
Camila suddenly looked up, realizing it was already dark outside. She glanced at the timeâ7 PM. No overtime today?
âOkay,â she responded.
Seeing that Camila didnât seem to want to leave, Connor just stood in front of her desk. Camila felt an invisible pressure. She quickly packed up and shut down her computer.
Connor watched her get ready, then headed straight for the elevator. Camila followed behind him.
Connor got into his car, and she waved, âSee you tomorrow, Mr. Connorâ
Connor rolled down the window, glancing at the passenger seat. âGet inâ
Camilaâs smile widened. âYes! No need to call a taxi. A free ride home, awesome! Without hesitation, she opened the passenger door, turned her head, and nodded with a grin at her boss.
Connor slightly furrowed his brows and stretched his neck, closing his eyes to rest. âDrop Camila off first,â he said nonchalantly.
âNo, no need, I live far away.â Camila quickly turned her head and waved her hand. Traffic was heavy at this hour. It would take over an hour to get to her place.
Connor slowly opened his eyes. âDrive,â he stated unequivocally.
During the rush hour traffic, Camila yawned repeatedly. The luxury carâs seats were too comfortable, and leaning against the door, she dozed off.
âCamila, weâre here.â The driver parked by the roadside, gently tapping the sleeping Camila.
Startled, Camila jerked awake, Her brain was not fully booted up, and she nodded mechanically
She turned to look at Connor, who had his eyes closedâshe wasnât sure if he was asleep, so she whispered thanks to the driver and carefully opened the door, gently closing it behind her,
Squeak-
Connor opened his eyes, watching her hop cheerfully into an old residential building. He muttered softly. âStill bouncy in heels,ââ
âMr. Connor, back to Cedarhill Estate?â
âMm.
A few minutes into the drive, the driver remarked. âOh, Camila left her phone in the car.â
Connor, âTake it back to her.â
Humming a tune, Camila climbed three flights of stairs, grumbling. âWhen is the landlord going to fix these lights? Itâs the second time this month theyâve broken.â
Using the light from the windowsill, she cautiously ascended the stairs, gripping the handrail. She reached her floor, and just as she was about to close her door, suddenly, a hand swiftly caught the door, pushing it open with force.
Camila screamed in shock, instinctively blocking the door with her body, struggling with all her might.
