Chapter 69
A One Night Stand With My Boss ( Maia Sanchez )
Chapter 69
After leaving the police station, the group walked into the night, which seemed devoid of stars. Camila and Erica walked together, the latter keeping her eyes on Connor at the forefront, whispering to her companion, âYour boss is really something else, isnât he? He owned that room back there, so dashing. Iâm rooting for you guys.â
âItâs not the time for jokes.â Camila was nearly in tears.
Parking was not allowed directly outside the police station, so their cars were parked further away.
Reaching the entrance, Connor stopped, and everyone behind him halted too.
Connor glanced at Camila, signaling her to come over. Her feet felt like they were filled with lead as she moved slowly towards him. Suddenly, Erica pushed her from behind, and she almost fell into Connor, who quickly caught her by the arm.
Turning her head, Camila saw Erica giggling with round, wide eyes.
âGet in the car,â Connor said, standing in front of his vehicle.
Camila forced a smile, âNo need, Iâll ride with Janetâ¦â
Bang-
The loud slam of a car door and in a seamless motion, the vehicle sped off. In mere seconds, Janet and Ericaâs car disappeared into the night.
Camila was dumbfounded. What just happened? They didnât wait for her and even drove off so fast.
âWhat did you say?â Connor glanced at the receding car, a hint of amusement in his heart.
âNothing Camila, feeling utterly defeated, opened the passenger door.
Connor got into the driverâs seat and began to reverse.
At the large entrance of the police station, only Tabitha and Marcâs assistant remained.
Tabitha glanced at her phone and suddenly, as if driven mad, her bloodshot eyes glinted fiercely as she violently threw her phone to the ground.
She screamed loudly, her voice piercing and shrill. Marcâs assistant, startled by her actions, kept a safe distance.
Exhausted from her outburst, Tabitha collapsed on the ground, her eyes filled with endless despair and anger.
The assistant picked up Tabithaâs smashed phone from the ground, noting several deep cracks. The screen was still on, displaying a long message.
[Tabitha, who have you angered this time? All your works have been taken down, your endorsements terminated, and they are demanding compensation. The agency is cancelling your contract. Get ready to pay up. Donât bother contacting me, Iâm no longer your agent from this moment.]
âCamila, youâre ruthless.â Tabitha looked up, staring in the direction of Connorâs departing car, her teeth clenched in anger.
Inside the car.
Camila nervously stole glances at Connor.
âQuite the achievement.â Connor remarked slowly, a cold smirk playing on his lips.
I had asked Alan to vouch for me. How could he tell you about it?â Camila muttered to herself about Alanâ lack of loyalty.
âYou thought you could keep it from me?â Connor countered.
Camila sighed deeply, knowing she couldnât hide it forever, though a delay would have been nice. She slumped against the car window like a deflated balloon.
âYou canât even win a fight. Donât go around saying youâre one of my people. I canât afford to be embarrassed like that.â
Camila looked at him, his handsome lips curving into a mocking smile. Suddenly revitalized, she retorted stubbornly, âI didnât lose. I pulled out quite a bit of her hair. Sheâs probably got a bald spot now.â
Connor glanced at her, absorbing her reaction, a faint smile breaking through his normally tightâlipped demeanor.
âIâm sorry for causing you more trouble/ Camila sat up straight, her face apologetic.
