Chapter 76
A One Night Stand With My Boss ( Maia Sanchez )
Chapter 76
Connor waved his hand with a smile and said, âNo worries. If they can be poached, my company doesnât really need them.â He raised his glass of red wine, smiling slightly, âHereâs to us making it big in the robotics industry.â
Jaiden awkwardly lifted his glass and took a sip. Lauren elegantly placed a shrimp into his bowl. A cold glare shot towards Jaiden as she mouthed the word âuseless.â
Lauren was the heiress to a major media conglomerate, and she had been in a longâterm relationship with Gavin, the scion of a film production company.
However, even the most intense love couldnât withstand the pressures of a business alliance. In her fatherâs eyes, although Gavin was wealthy, he didnât hold as much commercial value as Rayâs grandson, Jaiden.
Following a suggestion by Laurenâs father, the two powerful families decided on a marriage alliance.
Soon after, Lauren and Jaiden had a lavish wedding. Lauren was dressed stunningly, but her smile was clearly forced.
The marriage was strained with little affection between them, primarily held together by the backing of the Addison and Passos families.
âConnor, so many of us wanted to invest in your robotics company, but you wouldnât let us buy in, leaving us no part in your success,â
his cousin Pamela remarked.
âConnor wanted to make it on his own, without tying it to Passos Corporation,â his mother Emily chuckled.
âWithout shares in Passos Corporation, would he have had the funds to buy back his own shares?â Pamela sneered.
Her husband Silas squeezed her hand under the table, signaling her to stop.
âLetâs just eat. The food is getting cold,â Madison interjected, her eyes flashing sharply.
During dinner, even though everyone wore warm smiles, it only masked the underlying tensions. Beneath the peaceful facade, a storm of conflicts and disagreements had been brewing, full of hidden schemes and secret plans.
After dinner, Connor went back to River Pavilion. He and his father sat in the garden, sipping water.
âYour grandfather intr r you to marry the heiress of the Mullins family. What do you think about that?â Jonah asked.
Connor smiled, âWhat think isnât really the issue. Do you know how many people this will unsettle.â
âThatâs true,â Jonahâs lips curled up slightly.
âMarrying the heiress of the Mullins would doubtlessly be the best âinsurance, but they will try every means to stop it.â
âOne should marry for love.â Emily appeared behind Jonah, resting her hand gently on his shoulder, her brow furrowed.
Jonah held her hand and looked up with a laugh, âYou know your son. Nothing forced on him ever works.â
âAre you thinking of marrying Camila? I will help you,â Emily said with a smile to her son.
âHere we go again, help, weâre really not what you think.â Connor said exasperatedly.
âYou really are stubborn. Youâre brilliant in business, a real pride for us, but youâre clueless about love. It drives me mad. How could I have such a son,â Emily scolded, shaking her head in feigned disappointment.
Connor didnât argue, just nodded helplessly.
âThe day Camila gets married, youâll have nowhere to cry,â Emily left him with those words.
