Chapter 82
Pursuing My Rejected Alpha
82 Stop Running Away From Me
Lucien was not sure what made him angrier: the fact that he was hurt by the mere existence of Lillian Woodland or that despite all his speech about being a good Alpha, marrying a Luna, and siring pups, he secretly harbored the wish to have Ronan all for himself.
Why was he so weak?
How could he even give Ronan the tiniest glimmer of hope? Where did his self-restraint go? Did Landon swallow all of it when he came back to Lucien?
âI have to go,â the man pressed a hand against his forehead.
The lady in front of him looked half confused and half terrified. âIs something wrong? You look so pale...â
âI am fine, Lady Fangblade, thank you. Excuse me.â
Lucien turned to go. It was best to not talk to Ronanâs mother further. He did not want to let the seed of hope grow in his heart. There would and must never be anything between him and Ronan, and that was final.
âI canât believe this,â Landon growled. âWhy are you pushing Ronan away again, Lucien? I thought we had an understanding.â
âYour presence muddled my brain. I got lulled into thinking that things could go back to the past.â
.....
Landon humphed.
âSo what. Letâs just resume from where we stopped. From the way I see it, Ronan is more than willing. He has been so good to us, Lucien...â
Lucien shook his head repeatedly as he marched out of the garden.
âNo. Damn it, no! Landon, donât you understand! Ronan already has a future Luna!â
Landonâs laughter rang out in Lucienâs head.
âThat coquettish lass? I saw her. Ronan will never like her.â
âI donât give a damn about that. He promised to marry her!â
âLucien!!!â
Lucien was yanked backward forcefully. He quickly lost his balance, but then two large hands grabbed him and pressed his body against a broad, warm chest. A strong sandalwood scent with an acidic tone invaded his nose and threatened to suffocate him.
Ronan was angry.
âLet me go,â Lucien said, his nasal passage felt like it had been set on fire.
âRonan, let me go!!!â He repeated when the Alpha did not loosen his grip. Lucien pushed and kicked at Ronan vehemently.
âRONAN SILVERBACK! LET GO OF MY SON THIS INSTANT!â
Both Ronan and Lucien looked up in bewilderment. A huge, red lady bag slammed against the side of Ronanâs face a while later.
âOw!â The latter groaned from pain when the metal part at the front side of the bag hit his eyebrow
âRonan!â Lady Adele Fangbladeâs worried voice was heard coming from a distance.
The two elder women glared at each other. One standing tall and mighty, the other one sitting on the wheelchair with a straight and unrelenting back.
Blood trickled from the wound at Ronanâs eyebrow, getting into his eye. The Alpha started rubbing at his eye to get the blood out.
When Lucienâs fingers pressed against the tear wound, Ronan hissed from the pain.
âYou are hurt. Letâs get it treated.â
Half-blind, Ronan let himself be dragged by Lucien in the direction of the infirmary. Alice Clearwater and Lady Adele Fangblade took their eyes off each other long enough to see their sons leaving before they continued glaring at each other.
It was not until Annalynne arrived that she managed to drag her mother out of the garden. Lady Adele Fangblade pursed her lips in displeasure. Lucien had a meek personality, where did that mother even come from? Was she even his biological mother?
Inside the infirmary, Lucien told Ronan to sit on a bench. He got permission from a nurse to access the first-aid kit, so he cleaned Ronanâs wound and treated it with iodine, gauze, and bandage.
âNot bad,â Ronan praised him. âYou can work as a Healer.â
âDonât be silly,â Lucien chastised him.
Healers were required to do more than just treat small wounds like these.
Ronan put his arms around Lucienâs waist and burrowed his face into Lucienâs stomach.
âWhat made you so upset?â He asked softly. âDid my mother say something wrong?â
Lucien sighed.
He buried his fingers into Ronanâs hair and yanked it backward.
âOw!â
The Alpha stared at Lucien, who looked down at him with the same pair of cold eyes as months ago.
âLulu...â
âShe didnât say anything wrong. I just donât think that you and I should hang out anymore.â
Lucien pushed Ronan away. This time, Ronanâs arms fell weakly off his body.
âAre you going back to Kinnon?â
Lucien remained quiet.
âAre you?â
Ronan repeated his question. Lucien could see the muscle at his cheek twitching violently as a thousand negative thoughts took root in his brain.
âYou better remember what I told you, Lucien.â
Landonâs words were full of threat.
âIf you decide to marry Kinnon Youngshaper despite my warning, I will overpower you again and kill him as soon as I get the chance.â
âYou will not,â Lucien said decisively.
âThen you know what not to do.â
Of course he knew.
And that was also what he told Ronan.
âNo, I am not.â
There was no point getting together with Kinnon if Landon was going to try murdering Kinnon the whole time.
âNo.â
The dark clouds on Ronanâs head literally dissipated into thin air when he heard Lucienâs answer.
âGood,â he said, heaving a sigh of relief.
Unhappy, Lucien folded his arms before his chest and glared at the Alpha.
Good?
Good for what, exactly? Was Ronan relieved that Lucien remained single while he himself was about to build a family with Lillian Woodland?
How selfish.
Lucien was disgusted with both Ronan and himself. This was what he wanted. He should be happy. Once Ronan was happily married, he could decide what to do with the rest of his life.
âLucien.â
Ronan pulled at Lucienâs elbow, forcing the tightly folded arms to come apart until a hand was free for Ronan to wrap his hands around.
âI love you, Lucien. I love you with all my heart. Please stop running away from me.â
