After thinking for a moment, Elizabeth looked up at Paul. “Can you do me a favor and pass along a message?”

Without saying a word, he stood up and walked toward the door.

“Mr. Ellison!” Paul called, holding an umbrella, trying to catch

David’s steps were fast, not looking back as he walked into the downpour. Just then, a thunderclap echoed, rumbling through the sky, and Caroline felt her heart tighten.

She walked to the window, watching the scene unfold. Her unease grew stronger by the second.

David walked over to Elizabeth, his shoes wet with rain, slightly dirtied.

“Say it again,” David said, his hands at his sides. “Elizabeth, if you spread any more lies, I won’t spare you!”

His composure was gone. The look in his eyes was more terrifying than the storm itself.
