âMr. Ellison, 1âIâm not very bright. I donât quite understand what you mean.â Matthew wiped the sweat off his forehead. âCould you give me a hint?â
âA hint?â
âYâYes, Iâ¦â
Before he could finish, David suddenly swept everything off the coffee table with a sharp motion!
Teacups, fruit platesâeverything crashed to the floor with a loud clatter.
His expression darkened. âAt a time like this, youâre still trying to bargain with me?â
Matthewâs legs nearly gave out. He stammered, unable to form a complete sentence.
Samantha trembled as well. She stole a glance at Caroline..
Caroline happened to be looking at her too.
Their eyes met, and Caroline smiled faintly. âYou canât hide the truth forever. Iâve endured for so long- itâs time to clear my name and prove my innocence. People may deceive, but the heavens see everything. Karma is inevitable.â
Samantha instantly understood. That little wench must have tattled to Mr. Ellison about the night we sold her for the first time!
She quickly turned to Matthew. Matthew had figured it but too.
After all, Caroline had no idea that the man that night had been David. She didnât even know that Elizabethâs favor came from taking her place. But now, Caroline was acting so confident, which could only mean one thing-
David was questioning them about selling Carolineâs first time.
If that was the case, the Brooks family actually felt a bit relieved.
Matthew was about to speak when Samantha stopped him.
She would handle this!
Samantha quickly forced out a few tears and let out a long sigh. âMr. Ellison, Iâll confessâIâll tell you everything. I never expected you to find out about this Sigh. I originally planned to bury this secret forever, never to bring it up again. It was Caroline who told you, right? I understand. She holds a grudge, thinking our family was heartless and treated her unfairly. She feels wronged. But actually⦠thereâs more to the story!â
Now it was Samanthaâs turn to put on a show.
Matthew stood frozen, completely speechless, unable to interject at all.

They had long anticipated this day and had already prepared a strategy. They just hadnât expected to use it
So 50011.
That was close. Caroline almost succeeded.
Well then, letâs see how this plays out.
Would Caroline manage to win this round, or would they come out on top?
âA hidden truth?â Davidâs face remained cold. âIs that so?â
Samantha nodded. âMr. Ellison, I donât know exactly what Caroline told you, and I wonât try to explain. myself. The truth is, we were in the wrong. We⦠shouldnât have sold her body, and we shouldnât have taken that money,â
David tapped his fingers lightly against the armrest, seemingly indifferent, but his gaze was sharp. âSo, youâre admitting to it?â
âYes, we admit what we did.â Samantha wiped the corners of her eyes. âEver since this happened, I havenât been able to eat or sleep properly. Itâs been weighing on me day and night. But now, itâs finally out in the open. At least I can breathe a little easierâI wonât have to live in fear every day.â
David narrowed his eyes slightly. âGo on.â
Samantha glanced at Caroline. âCaroline, my daughter. Are you sure you want me to say it?â
