David cast her a glance.
Elizabeth continued, âThey had planned to take this secret to the grave, to bear the burden of being the villains and accept the consequences. But my sister was too resentfulâshe exposed everything without hesitation. Soâ¦. my parents had no choice but to tell the truth. Mr. Ellison, please, donât blame them.â
Silence fell over the living room.

Caroline collapsed back onto the sofa, her palms marked with deep crescentâshaped imprints from her nails. The Brooks familyâs scheming and manipulation⦠it was beyond anything I imagined. What do I do now? Would David believe her? Or would he believe their lies?
Samanthaâs eyes flickered as she added fuel to the fire. thought Caroline already knew that the man who bought her that night was Mr. Nash.
