Chapter 219 Even Like This, Youâre Still Interested in Me?
Nash hurried to explain. âIâm not pretending, Caroline. I really can-â

âEnough!â she cut him off with a mocking tone. âAt this point, whatâs the point of you helping me? Donât you think itâs too late?â
âYes, itâs a little late, but thereâs still a way to turn things around!â
Caroline shook her head. âNo, there isnât. My life⦠is set in stone.â
Nash looked at her, wanting to step forward, but the cold indifference in her eyes made his chest tighten.
She felt like a stranger.
Seeing that he still refused to give up, she hardened her heart and pushed him away with even crueler words.
âNash, in the beginning, you could have saved me. If you had refused to get engaged to Julia and stood firmly by my side, the Brooks family wouldnât have married me off to David. Without that marriage, that night wouldnât have happened. I wouldnât have gotten pregnant. I wouldnât be trapped in this mess. But what did you do instead? Now, after everythingâs happened, you suddenly claim you want to save me? How pathetic. How disgusting. Sure, you bought me but never showed up, hoping to preserve my innocence. But letâs be honestâyou did all that just to ease your own conscience.â She let out a scornful laugh.
âWhen you had the chance to give me a good life, you ran away. You left me to face the unknown alone. You knew I was just the Brooks familyâs adopted daughter, someone with no status, no autonomyâand yet, you abandoned me.â
She gritted her teeth, her voice thick with resentment.
âListen carefully, Nash. Even if I have to beg on the streets, even if I die, I will never have anything to do with you again! From this moment on, we are finished. No more debts, no more ties. We are nothing to each otherâstrangers for life!â
Nash opened his mouth, but no words came out.
His
eyes
reddened. Caroline didnât spare him another glance.
I was harsh enough, wasnât I, Nash? Donât interfere with my life anymore. If you do, youâll only get dragged down with me. Love, hate, misunderstandingsâit doesnât matter anymore. Letâs end it here. No more regrets. No more whatâifs. From now on, weâre just people who never knew each other.
David carried Caroline steadily out of the hospital, his strides strong and unshaken by the chaos they left behind.
The destruction in the room didnât faze him in the slightest.
Amidst the stark, sterile environment of the hospital, David stood outâhis powerful presence, his undeniable dominance. Everything around him became mere background, existing only to frame his existence.
The woman in his arms lay still against his chest, quiet and obedient.
It was the dead of night. The world outside was silent, and even the smallest sounds echoed endlessly.

David placed Caroline into the passenger seat.
As he leaned in to fasten her seatbelt, his gaze drifted downward.
His fingers reached for her leg.

âWhat, even now, youâre still interested in me?â Carolineâs voice was numb, almost lifeless. She didnât stop him.
David didnât respond. His fingertips moved up, pressing lightly against the inside of her right thigh.
There was a wound.
The moment his fingers brushed against it, Caroline sucked in a sharp breath.
âA scalpel?â
ââ¦Yeah.â
She hesitated for a moment before continuing on her own.
âTo save time, Julia didnât want to wait for the anesthesia to take effect. She was going to perform the abortion right away. I shattered the lamp, so she had to hold up a flashlight for the doctor. I guess thatâs when they accidentally cut me.â
Scalpels looked thin and fragileâbarely sharper than a fruit knife.
But in reality, they were deadly.
