Chapter 27 I Wonât Run Into David
In the CEOâs office, David stood by the window while holding a cup of coffee.
For some reason, he couldnât stop thinking about the scene from earlier, when Caroline was pressing the knife against her neck.
Defiant, resilient, and fiercely independent, she was like a rose with thorns, David thought. Does she not understand the concept of âsurrenderâ?
No matter. Davidâs lips curled into a cold smirk. Iâll teach her myself. One day, Caroline will kneel before me and beg for mercy.
âMr. David,â William knocked on the door and then stepped inside. âThe internal recruitment for the formulation department is starting, but Mr. Boris has an urgent matter and canât attend. Would you like to go instead?â
âAlright.â said David after looking at his watch.
The Ellison Group was expanding into the womenâs beauty market, so they placed a high priority on the â« cosmetics and skincare sectors. Normally, such recruitment events would be handled by the department director, but to make sure that only the best talents were hired, David had assigned the vice president to handle it instead.
Now, however, it seemed that his personal attendance was required.
David turned and walked out of the office with steady steps, there was something about the way he walked that commanded respect.
The recruitment hall was bustling. All the candidates looked tense and eager, each and every one of them was hoping to be selected.
Caroline had just filled out her application. She received her number and waited outside.
âCaroline, Iâm losing confidence.â Anna looked upset. âI peeked at the others just now, most of them have masterâs or doctorate degrees, studied abroad, or have years of experience. Weâre total newbies⦠It seems like weâre only attending as background extras.â
âBelieve in yourself,â Caroline reassured her. âJust give it a try. Whether we succeed or not, at least weâve
made the effort.â
âRight! If even one of us gets in, itâll be worth it!â
âExactly. Stay calm.â
Just then, someone who Caroline assumed to be the supervisor entered the hall and cleared his throat.. âAttention, everyone. The CEO will be here shortly. Please watch your behavior and make a good impression. No slipâups!â
âOh no, Iâm done for,â Anna muttered, she felt that her newfound confidence had already evaporated. âThe CEO himself is interviewing us? Iâm doomed! Iâll freeze up completely! Caroline, what do I do?â
Carolineâs heart sank.

Chapter 271Wonât Run Into David
âExcuse me,â she asked the supervisor. âBy âCEO, do you mean Mr. David?â
Finished
âOf course, itâs Mr. David. Who else could it be?â The supervisor answered. âYouâre just in luck, really. Itâs only your first day at the company, and you already get to meet him. If he picks you, your career will surely take off!â
Carolineâs face paled. I absolutely cannot afford to run into David here!
Without hesitation, she stood up and headed for the exit.
The sooner I leave, the lower the chance of crossing paths with him.
âHey, where are you going?â The supervisor called after her. âItâs almost your turn. Where are you running off to? Get back here!â
Caroline didnât look back. âIâm withdrawing. I donât think I belong in this company, Iâm simply not qualified.â
The supervisor frowned. âDo you think this company is some shop where you can come and go as you please? Security! Stop her!â
The security guards at the entrance extended their arms in unison to block her path.
The supervisor stormed over and snatched her resume
âWeâll see just who the hell are you.â He sneered. âYou have no manners at all! Hah, just a fresh graduate. How did you even get in here? Itâs a good thing I caught you. If you stood in front of Mr. David, youâd be a complete eyesore!â
Caroline didnât reply.
She merely stared at the space behind him.
