Elizabeth sat there in her hospital gown, her face as pale as paper, her smooth hair cascading down her back. She looked like a delicate, innocent flower fragile, helpless, in need of care and protection.

“Tonight, my parents went to see you, didn’t they?” Elizabeth asked. “I wanted to go too, but my body just wouldn’t allow it. Mr. Ellison, if you’re upset with them, then let me take the blame instead. They’re getting older, and at their age, they should be enjoying a peaceful life, surrounded by their children and grandchildren… How could I bear to see them suffer.”

“As their daughter, there’s only so much I can do for them. But at the very least, I should fulfil my duty of -filial piety. Mr. Ellison whatever grievances you have with the Brooks family, put them all on me.”

Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, making her look even more pitiful. “And there’s one more thing I need to make clear, That night you were drugged. I only wanted to take care of you, to help you. I love you, and I was willing to give myself to your, to be your woman again.”

“But, I swear I didn’t drug you, I don’t have that kind of power. You can’t just take Caroline’s words as fact and assume it was me. I only happened to be at the restaurant because I had plans to meet a friend.”

As soon as she finished speaking, tears fell in perfect, glistening drops onto the back of her hand.

She trembled ever so slightly, her fingers gripping the edge of the blanket. It was obvious how anxious she

was.

David’s deep voice broke the silence. “Do you want this child?”

Elizabeth’s nodded without hesitation. “Yes! More than anything! Mr. Ellison… do you?”

Just as he was about to respond, she suddenly reached for his sleeve, gently tugging at it. Her voice was barely a whisper “Wait.”

“I don’t know what your answer will be, if you want this child, then that would be the best possible outcome.”
