Chapter 58 Laced with Abortion Drugs
Elizabeth added sarcastically, âMom, you really went all outâwaking up so early to make breakfast for Caroline. Youâre so biased. Iâm your real daughter, and donât get this kind of treatment!â
âYou can join her, Samantha said with a smile. âThe foodâs still warm.â
A quick look at the table revealed a lavish spread of over ten delicate breakfast dishes..
âOh, that reminds me. Samantha turned to Paul. âDid Caroline finish the birdâs nest soup from last night? Did she like it?â
Paul opened his mouth to respond, but a maid spoke faster. âMadam dropped it. She said her hand slipped.â
Samanthaâs expression stiffened briefly before she regained her composure. âOh, itâs fine. Iâll just make her some more another day.â
Though she brushed it off lightly, she and Elizabeth exchanged a knowing glance.
They had anticipated Caroline would become more cautious after getting pregnant and refuse to eat anything without suspicion.
But did she think she could escape so easily? This was just the beginning. There were plenty more tricks to
come.
Footsteps sounded from the staircase.
David and Caroline came downstairs together.
âMr. Ellison, Elizabeth greeted him with a sweet smile as she approached. âYouâre awake! Come try the breakfast Mom made for you and Caroline this morning. Everythingâs delicious! You have to try her cooking!â
Davidâs brows knitted slightly. The Brooks familyâs sudden cagerness to please felt strange.
He turned his head towards Caroline. âWill your hand slip again today?â
Carolineâs nails dug into her palms as she fought to contain her anger. These two women were shameless. When one plan failed, they immediately moved on to the next, all under the guise of showing care for her.
âThereâs an old saying, âUnexpected kindness usually hides a motive,â Caroline said, her voice icy. âI lived with the Brooks family for twenty years, and not once did you cook for me. Why now? Unlessâ¦â She cast a pointed glance at the table. âYou poisoned it?â
She wasnât afraid to call them out.
Why should she hold back when they were clearly plotting against her?
Samantha chuckled awkwardly. âWhat nonsense are you saying? If youâre worried, I can eat it myself, Everything here was made with care, especially since Mr. Ellison will be eating too,
Carolineâs face remained cold. âIâm not eating. I have to get to work.
Finished
else but deadly for her.
She brushed past Samantha and Elizabeth and headed for the door.
âStop,â Davidâs voice rang out, firm and commanding.
Caroline didnât even slow down, ignoring him completely.
Only she had the audacity to defy him like that.
David didnât bother to repeat himself; he simply shot Paul a sharp glance.
Security appeared immediately, blocking her path. âMadam, please return,â they said politely.
With David stepping in, Samantha and Elizabeth smirked with satisfaction.
Ellison was on their side, making their plan even easier. What could Caroline do now!
Caroline turned back, her eyes sharp as she glared at David. âI need to go to work.â
âEat first,â David said, his tone unyielding.
I have urgent matters to deal with.â
David replied evenly, âNo matter how urgent, Iâll take care of it.â
Caroline bit her lip in frustration.
What kind of madness was this? Why was he so insistent on forcing me to eat?Or did he simply enjoy making me bend/
to his will?
Outnumbered and outmatched, she had no choice.
David placed the utensils in her hand and pressed her into the chair at the table. âEat.ââ
