David was determined to learn just how deep and memorable Caroline and Nash’s bond had been during their university years–so meaningful that Caroline seemed unable to fully move past it even now.

The more David looked at them, the darker his expression became.

Such a strong bond. Such undeniable affection.

He began flipping through the documents more quickly, but soon he had enough. With a single motion, he sent everything scattering across the floor.

“What’s happened now?” Boris asked as he entered, catching sight of the scene. “Who’s dared to upset Mr. Ellison this time?”

David/shot him a cold look. “Are you so free right now?”

“I’m here to report work, not because I’m idle. I’m incredibly busy–very, very busy.”

“Speak,” David ordered, leaning back in his chair, his face full of frustration.

Boris walked over and glanced at the photos and papers on the ground, quickly piecing it together. “Ah, so you’re upset over something emotional…”

“What did you just say?”

“I said you’re troubled by love,” Boris repeated, drawing out the words. “Caroline and Nash’s relationship is ancient history. Everyone has a past. Why are you so bothered by this? Besides, Nash is engaged, and Caroline is married to you. There’s no way they can be together now.”

“And if they still care about each other?”

Boris hesitated, then cautiously asked, “Even if they do, what difference does it make? Unless… Caroline betrayed you and had an affair?”

David’s gaze turned ice–cold, sharp enough to cut through steel.

Cheat on me? Betray my trust? If she tried, I’d deal with her first–then it would be Nash’s turn.

“Let her try,” David said in a frosty tone. “We’ll see what happens.”

“So, if I understand correctly, Caroline hasn’t done anything and hasn’t even thought about it, but here you are, doubting her and getting jealous over nothing Boris pointed out. “She works during the day and is with you at night. Where would she even find the time? She can’t be in two places at once.”

Ha. She might be physically here, but her heart? It was still with Nash.

“You’re so fixated on her past relationships. Are you in love with her?” Boris asked with a grin.

“Love isn’t something to hide. If you love her, just admit it. There’s nothing wrong with it–it’s perfectly normal to have feelings for someone, especially at your age.”

“Enough,” David snapped.

Love her? What a joke. But why had Caroline questioned me about it last night, and Boris followed up today? What had I done to make them believe I had feelings for her?

Boris wasn’t about to let the opportunity to tease David slip by.

“When you’re in love with someone, it’s obvious–you care about her ex, and you start competing with him,” Boris said smugly. “Caroline made a hit product for Newton Group, and now you want her to create an even bigger one, just to prove you matter more to her than Nash does.”

David abruptly stood up. “Get out!”

“But I haven’t even started my report-”

“I said, leave!”

Fine, Boris would go.

But just as he reached the door, he couldn’t resist saying, “You’re this upset because you love Caroline, but she doesn’t feel the same way, right?”
