Chapter 12
Mr.Billionaire Meets Ms.Clumsy
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." Emilyn looks at the white canvas that she just spill her drinks on. The white canvas starts to chuckle; she looks up to see a familiar face, "Christopher?"
"Hey, we should stop meeting like this." His hand caught a cup and smiled with a toothy grin.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see where I was going, and I'm in a rush," Emilyn ramble.
"Slow down; let's settle this first." He gestures towards some of the cups that are spill all over the floor. Christopher helped to pick the cups from the floor. They throw the empty cups into the trash.
"urgh..." Emilyn groans under her breath. "Now I got to order them again." She sighs and walks up to the counter again to repeat the order. Christopher stood next to her as she ordered.
Christopher pipes in his order too. Emilyn turns her body and faces him, "You know I don't have the money to pay for yours too."
"I know." He chuckles.
"The total is 36 dollars." The cashier said. Before Emilyn can pull out her money, Christopher pulls out his card. The cashier took his card before Emilyn could say anything. "Your orders will be ready in 20 minutes." Emilyn thank her, and they move to the side.
"You don't have to pay for me," Emilyn told him.
"I bump into you this time. I'll pay." Emilyn scrunches her eyebrow. If she recalls, it was her who bump into him first. "Don't think about it too much; how about taking it as me being such a jerk to you."
"Why do you want to repent for your ways?" Emilyn chuckle.
"Yes, I'm sorry for being a jerk. But you have a cute reaction when I tease you." Emilyn pauses and looks at him. Did Christopher Evans just call her cute? "And I thought if we could start over and be friends?" Christopher continues.
"Friends?" Emilyn question. "A guy who repeatedly makes me clean his shirt and being such a cocky jerk. Now he wants to be friends with me?" Emilyn tilts her head to the side.
"Come on; I did help you clear up with the pictures. And if it is not for me, your face will be in the magazine."
"You got a point there." Emilyn nods her head. "But why do you, a billionaire want to be friends with a commoner?"
"What's wrong with being friends with what you call yourself a commoner" Christopher quotes the word commoner. "You seem interesting and not the type of people who I have interacted with."
"I see." The corner of Emilyn mouth lifts slightly. "Fine, since you have a very interesting point. I'll accept your offer." She put out her hand for him to shake.
"Good." Christopher took her hand and shake. His blue eyes are piercing right into hers. Emilyn immediately got trap in his eyes once again; no matter what, she felt that she can always get lost in his eyes.
Emilyn suddenly realized what she was doing. She immediately takes her eyes off him and pulls back her hands from his.
Emilyn clears her throat, "About your shirt, I'm so sorry." Trying to break the awkward moment that they had just now. Emilyn's eyes found it wander to the prominent stain on Christopher's shirt. This time was juice instead of coffee. "Should I get it clean?" Emilyn asked
"If you want to." He smirks. Christopher reaches to top button and starts to unbutton it.
"Oh my gosh," Emilyn stop him by placing her hand on top of his. "Are you seriously going to take your clothes off here?" She asked.
"I'm just kidding." He chuckles. Christopher's eyes look down at her hand,, which is still on top of his.
Emilyn's eyes look at what Christopher is staring at and quickly take her hands of his, "Sorry." She said.
"But seriously, you got to clean this." Christopher bends down to whisper into her ear. Her cheeks grew red due to their close proximity, her eyes trained to find others surrounding them staring.
Emilyn gently pushes him away, "people are looking at us."
He chuckles, "You are cute when you blush." Emilyn can't help it to blush even more. This is Christopher's second time calling her cute. "So, what's wrong. You look distracted?" He asked.
"How did you know?" Emilyn eyes grew wide.
"I was standing behind you while you were waiting for your coffee," Christopher told her. "I've called your name so many times, but you didn't respond."
"Oh." Emilyn looks down on the floor. "I got a rough night yesterday," She said.
"And also, I texted you last night,, and you didn't answer. Was I interrupting something?" He asked, trying to catch Emiyln's eye.
"Not really, just something happened last night," Emiyln said.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked. Emilyn look back up at him and think, "should I tell him?" Emilyn have this feeling that she can trust him, so she decides to tell him.
She opens her mouth to say something but got interrupted by her phone. Emiyln held out a finger to him and mouthed, "one second." She unlocks her phone to a text message from Taylor, "Where are you and the drinks?" Emilyn quickly types back to assure her that she'll be back in 10 minutes.
"You know if you feel uncomfortable to tell, it is fine with me." He said.
"No, I want to," Emilyn said, placing her phone back into her pocket. "Last night, when I walked into my house. I found my grandma on the floor."
Christopher eyes widened, "Is she okay?"
"Yeah, the doctor says she's not in danger. But they want to do a full-body check to find the problem."
He nods, "Do you need me to accompany you?" He asked
"No, it is fine. I can handle it myself." Finally, their order got called. Emilyn took the drinks and told Christopher, "I have to get back to work."
"If you want to cancel the interview, it's fine with me." He said.
"No, I want to stick to the schedule," She told him. "I got to go." Emilyn walks out, not giving him a second glance. "What's wrong with me?" She asked herself. Walking back to the office, Emilyn couldn't believe what she had done.
Emilyn has only known him for at least a month long. She doesn't open up to people that easily. It took her months to open up to Ana.
Emilyn shaked her head to clear the thoughts. There are so many things are happening right now, but now she got to focus on her grandma and her work.
***
After work, Emilyn rushes straight to the hospital. "What did the doctor say?" Emilyn ran into Grandma Lou's room with deep pants.
"Calm down; she's about to tell me." Grandma Lou chuckle. Emilyn saw the doctor and nurse with an amusing look on their face.
"Sorry." Emilyn apologizes and gestures the doctor to continue.
"You have one caring granddaughter." The doctor said to grandma Lou.
"She's the only one I got." Grandma smiles at Emilyn.
"So, we did a full body check,, and it seems that your grandma has chronic liver failure." Emilyn looks at the doctor cluelessly. "That means her liver has lost its function."
"Is it serious?"
"Yes."
"Can it be cured?" Emilyn asked.
"Yes, the only way to cure it is to have a liver transplant.
"Can I be a donor?"
"We will have to do a check-up on you to see if you're compatible. But if it is not compatible, there will be others." The doctor said. "But for now, I insist your grandma take less salt, drink more water, do not have contact with other people's blood or any body fluids, be careful of products you use to clean your house, and take the medicine we prescribe to you." She explains
"How fast can you perform the surgery?"
"Once we found the donor, we can do the surgery immediately. Probably around two weeks max." She told me. "Once you have to fill up the form, we'll start with finding the donor."
"Okay."
"But for now, your grandma has to stay at the hospital for one more night." The doctor told her. Emilyn nods, and the doctor and nurse left the room.
"Don't worry, grandma. You'll feel better soon." Emilyn assures her, holding onto her grandma's hand.
"It will be expensive." Grandma Lou said.
"What will be expensive?" Emilyn asked
"The cost of the liver transplant."
"Don't worry; I got it covered. I'll try to find an extra job if I have to." Emilyn gave grandma Lou a small,, assuring smile. She spends some time with her before grandma Lou chases her out of the hospital.
Emilyn got back home and turned on all the lights. The house feels so empty. She takes a deep breath in, and a tear starts falling on down on her cheeks. She slid down by the door and pulled her knees close to her chest.
"What am I going to do?" She continuously asked the same question. She knows, and her grandma knows that they can't afford the surgery. She remembers back what the doctor told her when she went to fill up the form.
"I have to warn you about something." The doctor started. "The rates of a patient surviving the transplant is 67 to 75 per cent. But as for your grandma's age, it could be risky."
More tears start streaming down her face as those words echo in her mind. She can't lose her; she's the only family that she got. Then, her phone rang. It was Ana. Emilyn wipes her tears away before answering her phone.
"Emilyn, you can't believe what happen yesterday," Ana said,, all excited. "I was going to call you but, something came up."
"What happened?" Emilyn asked,, trying to cover my tone of voice.
"Emilyn, are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Emilyn tries to sound happy. "What happened yesterday?" Emilyn changes the subject quickly.
"Emilyn, are you crying? What's wrong?" She asked in a worried tone.
"No, I'm not crying."
"You are; I can hear it," Ana said. "I'm coming over right now, don't move." She said and ended the call. Emilyn waited for Ana to come. There is no way that Ana would not find out; Emilyn can never keep anything from her.
"Emilyn!" She heard Ana shouted while knocking on her door.
Emilyn got up from the floor and turned the doorknob to let her in. "Oh, my," Ana said as she opens the door. "What happened?" Emilyn hugged her immediately and cried in her embrace. "Let's head in first." Emilyn slowly lifts her head and nod.
They sat down on the couch, "So, tell me. What happened?" Emilyn told her every single thing. "Emilyn, I am so sorry. I should have been there with you. You should call me."
"I can't. I don't want to interrupt you and Finley." Emilyn wipes her tears falling on her cheek.
"You know?" She asked.
"I help set the whole thing up. Didn't Finley told you?" Emilyn asked; Ana shakes her head. "I don't have to ask that you agreed to marry him, right?" Emilyn gave her a small smile.
"Yeah." She looks at her finger with the rose gold ring on it. "But, you should call us. It doesn't matter what happens; we'll be there for you." Ana places her hand on top of Emilyn in a comforting manner.
"If I call, it might ruin Fin's plan. He has been planning it for weeks. I can't be so heartless to ruin it."
"Okay, I forgive you this time," Ana said. "When is Grandma Lou getting discharge from the hospital?"
"Tomorrow."
"I'll be there to pick her up."
"Ana, you don't have to do that. We can take the cab."
"No, don't argue with me. I want to be there to help." Ana left no room to argue.
"Okay." Emilyn gave up reasoning with her.
"I'm staying over too."
"I know." Emilyn chuckle. "Thank you for being my friend." She hugged Ana.
A/N: Hey, Hey, readers, an emotional chapter and slightly long chapter today. But the good thing is that Christopher and her weirdly became friends. But who says that friendship isn't formed weirdly.
Anyway, as usual hope, you enjoy this chapter. You can comment on what you think about the chapter; most appreciated. Rude comments are not as welcome as usual. Thank you.âº
