Chapter 48

Mr.Billionaire Meets Ms.Clumsy

Every single day, Emilyn goes to the hospital and visit her grandma. Is the same routine every day, after work she will go to the hospital until Christopher comes to pick her up.

While walking toward the hospital, something click in my mind, Grandma Lou has been in and out of the hospital, and nothing change and she's getting worse every day. It has been two months and no recovery at all.

"Hi, Emilyn." Grandma Lou greets. Emilyn gave her a small smile and walk into the room. Grandma Lou is having her daily checkup.

"Hey, doctor Rodriguez I was planning to ask you about my grandma's condition," Emilyn said. "Since you are here, can we discuss it?"

"Sure, but after I finish my checkup with your grandma." He said. Emilyn nods her head and lets him do what he needs to do.

"It looks like your health is improving, but there is still that issue we talk about." He said.

"Issue? What issue?" Emilyn asked.

"Uhm..." Doctor Rodriguez looks at Grandma Lou and back to Emilyn.

Emilyn saw her grandma shook her head at the doctor. "What are you hiding from me?" She asked.

"It is nothing serious." Grandma Lou said.

"Then tell me the issue, if it is not that serious." Emilyn crossed her arm.

"I'm sorry, I'll let you guys talk it out. " The doctor said,

"No, stay. I want to know what is going on ." Emilyn turned to face her grandma and asked, "Grandma, what are you hiding from me?" She asked again.

"Nothing, nothing for you to worry about." Grandma Lou said.

"Then why are you and the doctor exchange glances when he talks about the issue?"

"Is just some minor things happening to my body like some abdominal pain."

"Right?" Emilyn narrowed her eyes at Grandma Lou.

"Tell me the truth grandma."

"Is true." Grandma Lou said.

"Fine, if you want to play the hard way," Emilyn said. "Doctor Rodriguez, what issue are you guys talking about?"

"I'm sorry, I couldn't tell you. We have a patient and doctor agreement."

"I'm one part of the patient, I'm her family. Don't I have the rights to know?" Emilyn places her hands on her hips and her lips pressed thinly.

"I suppose you do, but..." Doctor Rodriguez glances at Grandma Lou.

"But, she told you to not tell me," Emilyn said.

Doctor Rodriguez nods.

"Just tell me what's the problem." Emilyn urged, standing her ground. She is not giving up without a fight.

"I'm sorry Mrs Walker." Doctor Rodriguez apologizes and tells her.

"Are you serious?" Emilyn burst out in anger. "How could you keep this from me? How long do you want to keep this from me?" She shouted. The doctor excuses himself from the room.

"Emilyn, I can't tell you. I don't want you to worry." Grandma Lou said.

"Why?" Tears are starting to fall down her cheeks.

"Because I hate seeing you upset, and we already know that it is hard to get another donor." Grandma Lou told her.

"But we can try and I will try to make it happen." Emilyn grabs Grandma Lou's hand.

"No, it will cost a lot and I know the topic of money hasn't been easy." Grandma Lou shakes her head.

"Grandma, I don't care. I just want you to be back to your normal health." Emilyn wipes the tears away.

"My sweet Emilyn, I'm sorry."

"Does Christopher knows?" Emilyn asked.

Grandma Lou contemplates and hesitantly nods. "He knows and you won't tell me. And him knowing about it and doesn't want to tell me." Emilyn let go of her Grandma's hand and frown. She couldn't believe what she heard.

"Emilyn is not like that."

"Why? I don't understand. Why?"

"Emilyn, listen to me." Grandma Lou said. "I told him not to tell you."

"Why does everyone wants to keep a secret from me?" Emilyn shouted. "Does Ana and Finley knows?"

"No," Grandma Lou shakes her head.

Emilyn took a deep breath and said, "I got to go, I'll see you tomorrow." She said monotonously.

"Emilyn, wait..." Grandma Lou called out, but Emilyn is already out the door.

Emilyn feels so lost and frustrated. She just wants to scream. "oof, sorry." Emilyn bump into someone.

"Emilyn?" She looks up at the person who has just said her name.

"Daxton? What are you doing here?"

"My friend broke his leg, so I've come to visit him." He said. "Are you okay? Something wrong? Do you need me to call my brother?"

"No," Emilyn shook her head. "I'm just going to head back home."

"Are you sure you don't want me to call my brother?" Daxton asked.

"Yeah, I'm sure." Before Emilyn can walk out of the hospital, Daxton grabs her shoulder.

"I don't think you should walk out there by yourself like that." He said. "You know how the paparazzi will do if they saw you like this. Let me drive you home." Emilyn thought for a while before allowing him to drive her back.

On the way back, Daxton didn't ask anything related to what happened just now. She is thankful for that. Daxton just randomly talks about his life and his family. He makes a little joke which makes Emilyn smile.

Finally, they have arrived, Emilyn thank him for the ride before heading in. When she reaches her floor, Emilyn saw Christopher standing at her door.

She took a deep breath before walking right up to her door without sparing a glance at him and unlock it. Christopher follows her in as she opens the door.

"Your grandma told me about that thing." He starts. "Angel...I."

"You what?" Emilyn cuts, turning around to face him with a glare. "You knew about it and you didn't tell me."

"We just want what's best for you." He said.

"Want what's best for me?" Emilyn scoff, "Keeping a secret from me is the best option?"

"Angel, I made a promise to your grandma not to tell you. Because we both don't want to see you sad." Christopher takes a step closer to her, but Emilyn took a step back.

"When did you find out?" She asked.

"The week when I came back from Italy." His gaze drops to the floor.

"Wow, just wow." Emilyn let out a small laugh, "She's my family, do you know that. Do you expect me to blame the medicine isn't good enough or the doctor isn't good enough when she is 6-feet underground."

"But all along that wasn't the case." Emilyn runs her hand through her hair and continues, "because my boyfriend decided to keep a secret from me."

"Angel is not that I...." Emilyn lifts her hand to stop him. "Can you please leave?"

"Emilyn, please," Christopher begged, reaching out his hand to her.

Emilyn back away, "No, Christopher. Get out of my house right now!" She pointed to the door. "I don't want to hear any more explanation. Get out!" She shouted, but he didn't move at all.

"Get out of my house." Emilyn push on his back to the door.

"Emilyn, please let me explain." He begged.

"No," Emilyn shake her head and open the door. "Out now."

Christopher sighs, "alright, when you calm down just call me, text me or anything. I'll give you an explanation." Emilyn nod and slam the door.

Emilyn lightly grabs her chest, she feels her heart tightens at the thought of her grandma. Sliding her back down the door and pull her knee inwards and buried her head, she cried. Emilyn cried out loud and mumbled, 'why,' repeatedly.

"So, what did the doctor said about the procedure to get another healthy liver?" Emilyn asked while peeling the apple skin with a knife, mostly trying her best to make a perfect swirl.

"Just that they will try their best to, find one for me immediately. And if they don't find it immediately then, in 2 months...I will." Grandma Lou pause.

"Here, I'm done." Emilyn passes her a slice of apple.

"Emilyn, you can't avoid the topic. I know is going to be hard. But I'm prepared for anything that's going to happen to me." Grandma Lou said, biting into the slice of apple.

"But I don't want you to go, you can't leave me." Emilyn places the knife down.

"Listen to me Emilyn, we cannot control life, we don't know when we are going to die. Sometimes, unexpected things happen and if we can't fix it, all we can do is just accept it." Grandma Lou said.

"I'll do my best to get you back to health again," Emilyn told her with determination in her eyes.

"Alright." Grandma Lou smiled.  "So, how are you and Christopher? You're still mad at him?"

"I'm not really that mad at him, I'm madder at myself," Emilyn admitted. "How can I be so ignorant to the fact there's something wrong? How did I not see the signs or connected the dots?"

"Don't blame yourself or Christopher, is my fault telling him not to tell you." Grandma Lou said. "Right after he heard the news, he immediately goes and talks to doctor Rodriguez about finding a new liver ASAP."

"But he should have told me," Emilyn said softly.

"If he told you, how do I know he will be a trustworthy man for my granddaughter." Grandma Lou chuckled.

"Grandma, he is trustworthy." Emilyn defends Christopher.

"See, you are mad at him. But you still defend him. That means your not mad at him anymore." Grandma Lou said. "Talk to him. I've noticed he has been calling you, but you block all of his calls." She told her. "How long have you guys not talk?"

"2 days," Emilyn muttered.

"Don't you miss him?" Grandma Lou asked. She shyly nods. "Then what are you waiting for, go see your man."

Emilyn laughs, "grandma, sometimes I think you are a 20 plus-year-old stuck in a 65-year-old body."

"Stop wasting time, go." She urged her.

"Alright, I'll go," Emilyn said bye to her grandma and take a cab to Christopher's place. She doesn't remember what floor is his house on, so she decided to wait in the lobby.

Emilyn look around the area, "I don't recall the lobby being so fancy." Emilyn though, scanning the area. They have a receptionist, lobby music, fancy and comfy furniture, and chandeliers.

Emilyn checks the time on her watch; it is 10 pm; Christopher should be back. And speaking of the devil, his strides are long making his way towards the elevator. Emilyn quickly got up and ran to catch up to him.

"Rist," She called his name. "Rist," Emilyn repeated it but louder.

Some heads turn, but the only head that Emilyn wants to see is Christopher's head turn. "What are you doing here?" He pauses in his steps and walks towards her.

"To talk to you."

"Let's go upstairs first." Christopher takes her hand and pulls her into the elevator. "You should call first, what if I didn't come through the lobby, then are you going to wait for me the entire night?" He asked.

"Oh." That's all Emilyn have to say. They arrive at the top floor, and there's only one door on the entire floor. Christopher enters his fingerprint.

"We are going to key in your fingerprint so that you can enter whenever you want." Christoper smiled at her and opened the door. When the doors open, Emilyn is amazed. The first time she didn't take a good look at his house.

"So, what do you want to talk about?" Christopher asked, closing the door.

"I-I want to tell you that..." Emilyn let out a breath. "I just want to tell you that..."

"Come sit," Christopher told her, she follows him to the couch. "I'm sorry." He apologized. "I know I should have told you, I shouldn't keep it from you."

"Rist," Emilyn called out his name softly. "I forgive you, I'm not mad at you." She continues, "Well, I was mad at first, but the anger is not directed to you, but more to myself. I'm so stupid, how can I not see the signs and just ignore them."

"Hey, don't blame yourself. Is partially my fault too." Christopher pulls her closer to him with his arms around her shoulder. "I know we said no secrets, but I've promised your grandma. We both don't want you to worry."

"My grandma said to thank you for keeping her promise and she told me you are a trustworthy man." Emilyn let out a small laugh.

"She did? He raises an eyebrow at Emilyn and laughs. "That's nice of her to think so highly of me."

"Rist, can we promise that we shall not have secrets between us anymore? Even if we know if the truth hurts." Emilyn told him

"I promise, I will not keep any secret from you unless is a surprise birthday or present."

Emilyn laughs, "Yeah, except for those."

"I miss you so much." Christopher nuzzled his head into the crook of her neck.

"I'm sorry, it must be so hard on you these two days." She combs her fingers through his hair.

"Hmm," He responds. "It must be hard for you too. But, don't do this to me again, I told you I need to hear from you or see you every day." He lifts his head from her neck.

"I didn't know you can be so clingy." Emilyn laugh.

"To be honest, I'm not a clingy type in my previous relationship." He said. "But, when it comes to you, I don't know what it is that I have to see you at least once a day or I'll grow annoyed."

"Cute," Emilyn muttered.

Then, Christopher phone rang and interrupted their moment, "No, I'm not going anymore. No, just not...bye." He ends the call.

"Are you suppose to be somewhere?" Emilyn asked.

"Was supposed to, that was just Pierce. He and Jax are waiting for me at the bar." He told her.

'Then, you should go. Don't mind me; I can leave." Emilyn got up from the couch but was pulled back down immediately.

"Stay, you are not going anywhere. I've cancelled on them."

"Why? I shouldn't be the one stopping you from hanging out with your friends." Emilyn told him.

"I've cancelled on them, to spend time with you. So you are not going anywhere." he wraps his arm tightly around Emilyn's waist. "You are staying over tonight." Emilyn wants to say something, but he interrupts, "I'm not asking."

"No, I just want to say..." again, Christopher interrupts. "I don't care if you say no, you are staying here with me tonight."

"Christopher, let me speak." Emilyn crosses her arms. "I want to say, of course, I would stay over." He smiles widely and carries her up from the couch, bridal style. "Woah, Rist. What are you doing?" Emilyn said, wrapping her arms around his neck securely.

"Carrying you to my bedroom, obviously." Christopher climbs up the stairs and Emilyn chuckled at his behavior. "Welcome to my bedroom, Angel." He put her down on the floor.

"Woah, I didn't notice that your room is huge. So much space." Emilyn exclaimed, looking at every inch of the room.

"Here." Christopher passes her some clothes. "Remember this shirt?"

Emilyn scrunched her eyebrows and looked at the shirt Christopher is holding, "Should I remember it?"

"Yeah, because you clean it."

"I clean it? How do you know this the shirt? Is just a plain black t-shirt, you probably have the same one."

"I know because of this." Christopher unfolds the shirt, and she spots something that made her gasp. "I got it done when you returned my shirt. So I would remember, that I bump into a clumsy angel for the first time." Emilyn traces each wording with her fingers, slowly tracing it. Christopher has gotten her name sewn on the left side of the shirt.

"Why sew it on the left side?" Emilyn asked, looking up at Christopher.

"So that I'll always have you in my heart," he smiled.

"You're so cheesy." Emilyn lightly pushes his shoulder.

He laughs, "here go shower, is getting late."

***

"Ooh, a magic 8 ball." Emilyn picks it up from the shelf in his room while waiting for Christopher to finish showering. Emilyn had never owned one before. She tried to ask a question and shake it. A message pops up.

"Having fun?" A voice startled her and made the ball slipped from her hand. But luckily, Christopher caught it. "Thank god, I caught it. Wonder what happens if it breaks."

"You are the one who scared me. If you didn't then the ball won't slip from my hands." Emilyn frowned.

"So, what did it say?" Christopher asks, holding the ball.

"Certainly," Emilyn said.

"What did you ask?" He asked.

"Uhm...I'm not going to tell you." She smiles and shakes her head.

"Come on, I'm curious." He pouts.

"Nope."

"Fine," he gave up. "I'll find out one day." Christopher kissed the side of her head and placed the ball back on the shelf.
