Chapter 8: Who Are You Going to Hit?
Don't Judge by Appearances
"Who the hell dares to hit me?!"
Ma Jun's head slammed into the windshield, and his brain buzzed. He couldn't process what happened for a moment. After shaking his head, he remembered that he had just been beaten in front of so many people. His anger flared up like a barrel of oil catching fire, burning fiercely.
"Damn..." He managed to say two words of his usual curse before someone forcefully pressed him onto the car hood, his nose smashing into the car trunk. He almost couldn't hold back his tears. "Let go of me. I'll tell you, messing with me won't end well for you."
Ma Jun felt a bit shaken inside, but in front of so many people, he didn't want to appear too weak.
"Oh?" Yuan Yi grabbed Ma Jun by the hair at the back of his head and pulled him off the car hood. "You were speeding, breaking traffic laws, almost causing an accident. Who do you think you are, acting like this with no regard for anything?!"
The onlookers immediately started clapping. It's fine if you're rich and powerful, but when you drive recklessly on the street, you're endangering everyone.
If the Lamborghini had crashed into a car with average safety features, who knows how seriously the other car's owner would have been injured?
Legally speaking, hitting someone is wrong, but emotionally, everyone was cheering for Yuan Yi. They couldn't wait for the Lamborghini driver to get a good beating. Yuan Yi's words caused the crowd to cheer, with many pulling out their phones to film the scene, waiting for Ma Jun to retaliate.
The last person who dared act like this, not only got himself in trouble, but also dragged his family down with him.
"Let go," Ma Jun clearly still had some rationality. He didn't shout, "Do you know who my dad is?" or "Do you know who my grandpa is?" Instead, he tried to elbow Yuan Yi, but Yuan Yi easily dodged to the side. Ma Jun missed his hit, tripped, and fell to the ground.
The crowd burst into laughter.
"The traffic police are here."
Two traffic cops arrived at the scene and immediately felt a headache. A Lamborghini had collided with a Porsche Cayenne, which caused the Cayenne to lose control and hit a Ferrari. The three cars were now involved in a chain crash, and this incident would definitely be all over the news within hours.
Seeing the cops, Ma Jun immediately became arrogant. He pointed at Yuan Yi, "Officer, he hit me."
Yuan Yi stood there with his hands in his pockets, giving Ma Jun a dismissive glance, without even opening his mouth, expressing his contempt with his body language.
The traffic cops, seeing that Yuan Yi didn't speak, politely said, "Sir, please show your vehicle registration and driver's license." Seeing the displeased look on Yuan Yi's face, they thought he would be uncooperative. But Yuan Yi reached into his pocket, pulled out a small wallet, and handed it to them.
"Hey, what's going on here?" Ma Jun asked, unhappy. "He hit me. Isn't that illegal? If you don't do anything, I'll get a lawyer and sue you."
"Sir, please rest assured, we will handle this according to the law," the cop said, bowing slightly. "Please show your documents." He subtly noticed the smell of alcohol on Ma Jun and turned to his colleague, "Please test both of their alcohol levels."
"And where's the other party?" The cop asked, having finished testing Yuan Yi's alcohol level, while holding the breathalyzer up to Ma Jun.
"I'm here, officer," Yan Xi said, holding a bottle of water, with two enthusiastic girls helping her walk. Two boys had also positioned themselves in front of her to protect her from any potential conflict between the two male drivers.
The cop wanted to say he was only thirty years old and wasn't yet old enough to be called "uncle," but when he saw Yan Xi, he swallowed those words. The young woman looked so delicate, he felt that saying something like that might make her feel uncomfortable.
After handing over her driving documents, Yan Xi thanked the helpful crowd around her again and reassured them she was fine. Only then did they leave, glancing back every now and then at Yuan Yi, in case he suddenly turned around and started attacking Yan Xi.
"I'm not testing. Take that thing away," Ma Jun pushed the cop away, turned, and made a phone call. He then looked at the cops and snorted, like a god looking down on mere mortals.
"Ugh," Yan Xi rolled her eyes. "Clearly drunk, otherwise why be so guilty?"
"Damn woman, shut your mouth, or I'll slap you twice," Ma Jun pointed at Yan Xi. "Get the hell out of here."
"Officer, he's threatening me in front of you," Yan Xi said, taking a few small steps behind the cop. "I was just driving normally, and this Lamborghini was weaving through traffic like an eel. If it wasn't for him, none of this would have happened. I have a dashcam recording that can be used as evidence."
"Damn it," Ma Jun didn't expect this seemingly timid woman to speak up. He pointed at her repeatedly, "You've got guts."
"Sir, please mind your language, and cooperate with our work," the cop said as Ma Jun was clearly becoming more aggressive. He pointed to the body camera on his uniform, "We are recording all your words and actions clearly."
The cop with the body camera stepped forward, positioning himself so that he was standing between Yan Xi and Ma Jun.
Having drunk several glasses of alcohol, and after getting beaten publicly by Yuan Yi, Ma Jun was already boiling with anger. Now, seeing the small traffic cops and this woman daring to speak to him, all the little bit of rationality he had left disappeared. "You guys get out of the way, I'll deal with her today."
"Deal with who?" Yuan Yi, who had been silent up until then, didn't waste any time. He stepped forward and kicked Ma Jun to the ground, then kicked him several more times. "Who are you going to deal with?! You're a grown man, and you're hitting women?!"
His movements were so fast that even the two traffic cops didn't react in time. By the time they did, poor Ma Jun was already on the ground, crying out in pain.
"Stop fighting."
"Quick, stop!"
"Are we not driving luxury cars? Can't we give each other some leeway for the sake of the cars?"
Yan Xi crept out from behind the police officers, and while the two police officers were moving toward Yuan Yi, she quickly stepped on Ma Jun with her high heels, pressing down twice before quickly pulling her foot back and standing obediently to one side.
Yuan Yi, noticing her small move: ...
"Ow!" When Ma Jun was beaten by Yuan Yi, it felt like a dull pain. But when Yan Xi stepped on him with her high heels, it was a sharp, bone-piercing pain. He couldn't hold it in any longer and screamed, his tears, which he had been holding back for so long, finally fell.
Yan Xi twisted her ankle and looked down at the ground.
The two police officers turned back, confused. What was going on?
Eventually, the three of them were taken back to the police station. Once the crowd had dispersed, Ma Jun slammed his hand on the table, his aura strong. "Do you know who my uncle is? He's Xu's son-in-law, the brother-in-law of Changfeng Group's chairwoman!"
"It doesn't matter who your relatives are, we will enforce the law impartially," one of the police officers handling the case said, gritting his teeth in anger. "Mr. Ma, since you were driving under the influence, we will confiscate your driver's license and proceed with detention and fines."
He violated traffic rules and still tried to pressure others. What kind of person was he?!
Yan Xi listened to Ma Jun shouting and was somewhat worried. She glanced at her watch. If she went back late, her father would definitely be worried, but if he found out she'd been in a minor car accident, he'd worry even more.
It wasn't a big deal, but with her father's personality, he'd probably make it into a big one.
If this Ma person really had some ties to the Yuan family, their family definitely couldn't afford to offend them. After all, they didn't even have the qualification to cling to the Yuan family's leg. She glanced at Yuan Yi, who was silent, hoping that this guy had some bigger background.
At this moment, Yuan Yi looked up and glanced at her. Yan Xi blinked and quickly averted her gaze.
Seeing her anxious look, Yuan Yi assumed she was worried about Ma Jun's connections and that her husband's status wouldn't protect her. He impatiently said, "Don't worry, the Yuan family doesn't have such a stupid relative."
His words were too direct.
Yan Xi carefully looked at Yuan Yi several times and, the more she looked, the more she thought he looked like the second young master of the Yuan family. "By the way, can I ask you a small question?"
She gestured with her finger to show that it was a very small question.
Yuan Yi looked at her without saying anything.
Silence meant tacit approval?
"Are you the second young master of the Yuan family?" Yan Xi added, "You look quite handsome, just like the second young master, even the angles of your face are similar." In this flashy society, occasionally flattering others was a way of survival.
"Heh," Yuan Yi scoffed, turned around, and looked at Ma Jun, who was still jabbering, "Sorry, I'm the second young master of the Yuan family. Since when did we have a relative like you?"
Ma Jun, who was still threatening and shouting just moments ago, froze when he heard this. What...?
"Officer, I hurt someone in my anger earlier. I'll compensate them for any damage, but our Yuan family will never protect illegal behavior," Yuan Yi raised his eyebrows and glanced at Ma Jun, "These years, some cats and dogs have been trying to link themselves to our family. Even we don't know where these so-called relatives come from."
The police officer never imagined that he was handling a traffic case and would witness such a high-class drama. Was this the son of the chairman of Changfeng Group?
Looking at Ma Jun's bruised face, the officer was amused. He had been threatening everyone, but now, with one sentence from Yuan Yi, he couldn't say a word.
This was too satisfying!
In that moment, Yan Xi felt that Yuan Yi's aura was eighteen meters longâthis was a good show.
Just as she was enjoying the drama, her phone rang. When she saw who was calling, she rubbed her throat and put on a sweet, obedient tone.
"Dad."
"No, no," Yan Xi said. "I just... ran into a high school alumnus, and we talked for a bit."
This small white lie rolled off her tongue easily.
"Yeah, yeah," Yan Xi chuckled awkwardly, "I didn't expect someone to recognize me after just half a year of school. Don't worry, I'll be home before 10."
Yuan Yi raised an eyebrow at Yan Xi.
Dad? High school alumni?
