Every single person in the room turned their heads to Jade, her brother and friends wished her luck as she stood. Four walked over to the designated door and kindly held it open for Jade, she thanked him with a wink and walked out the room. He followed and closed the door behind him. Jade looked around and could see a very large dome shaped open auditorium with, as pictured, a chair dead center of the room. Faction members of all kinds stood behind screens and a few behind desks. Jade walked slowly beside Four towards the reclined chair, she looked slightly to her right and spotted every single faction leader behind another screen.
She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "Why are all of the faction leaders here?" Jade asks Four in a whisper, even though the loud sound of chatter and technology-like sounds filled the room. "It's a new requirement each year, and each year they monitor a different factions final stage testing. For example they monitored the new transfers of Candor last year, this year it's Dauntless they're 'monitoring'." Four tells her, by now they were almost to the chair. "Don't you think that's a little suspicious?" Jade asks him, Four nods his head. "It's very suspicious actually." He says as they approach the chair, Jade takes a seat and pulls her legs over and onto the mildly uncomfortable orange glowing chair. Four takes her hand in his, "You can do this Jade, I know you can. Remember, think brave." He says and kisses her knuckles before leaving her to stand behind the sidelines.
Jade smiles and is heart warmed that the love of her life was by her side, supporting and motivating her through it all. Soon, all pleasant feelings are once again thrown out the door when she sees her original administrator Tori, with gloves on and a syringe in her hand. Jade flips her hair and tilts her head to give Tori access to her neck. Jade winces at the feeling of the long needle entering her neck, injecting, and then be pulled out. "Good luck Jade, you're gonna need it." Tori whispers as Jade lays her head back.
Tori's face is then the last face Jade sees before inevitably fading unconscious. Suddenly her adrenaline rises, sweat begins to form against her forehead and her heart began to beat just a bit faster. She then realizes she's running, she's running through a fairly familiar and barely sun lit forest. She could hear the sound of heavily armed men shouting and snapping tree twigs behind her as she dodged tree after tree. She is momentarily stopped by her hair getting caught on branch but, she manages to free herself and continues to run.
Eventually she's force to a stop again due to a very large mountain with nothing but a deep, dark stone cave opening facing her. She hesitated at first but, remembers she's being pursued, and quickly descends into the caves skin crawling darkness. For Jade, the air was damp and her feet splashed throughout puddles forming on the caves ground. Soon Jade is lowered down into a crouching position due to the shrinking size of the cave, her heart races as her mind clutched onto any type of positive and calming thoughts. She was now forced to crawl through a small hole, and luckily, it didn't get any smaller then that.
She kept crawling and crawling until the terrain underneath her hands and knees changed. She was able to crouch around in the familiar little metal room. And as anticipated, the walls begin to close in on her. She knew it wasn't real but when she looked around on the ground, no nails where to be found, which caused the fear for Jade to set in. She began to panic and ran a hand through her hair, only for it to be caught. But not by an annoying hair tangle but by something solid.
She picks it out her hair and looks at it, and is surprised to see it was -not a stick-, but a piece of thick branch. She quickly breaks off the unwanted thin pieces and places the piece of wood between the now, very close walls. And fortunately the wood holds and the walls stop and then suddenly, they vanish. Jade is now in a sitting position inside of an unfamiliar dark apartment inside of Dauntless. She tries to move but looks down and realizes her hands and legs were bound to the chair she was sitting in with duck tape.
"You better be grateful I used duck tape instead of rope gorgeous, your wrists would be raw by now if I did." A semi-deep voice says from the shadows, and Jade rolls her eyes at the easily recognizable voice. "Why would they be Eric? I'm not scared of you and I most certainly wouldn't be rubbing my wrists raw to get away from you. You're not gonna do anything to me." Jade says with annoyance in the tone of her voice, and in that moment she was oblivious to the fact what she was experiencing wasn't real. "Well lookey there, it must be your lucky day because your absolutely right." Eric says, just a light switch is turned on. And the sight in front of her sent rage and adrenaline flowing all throughout her veins. There Four was, dangling nearly lifelessly with his hands bound by a chain hanging from the ceiling.
His head was down and she could see his blood drip from his nose to the floor below him. "Or is it?" Eric deviously says with a smile on his face. She then began to struggle against her restraints, "Oh my god, Tobias... What did you do to him?!" Jade questions aggressively, Eric laughs and walks around Four slowly. "Oh sweetheart, what I did to him doesn't matter, like come on look," Eric pauses and grabs Four by his hair to lift his face up and show Jade the unbearable. She could see blood coming his nose and as well as his mouth, due to a severe busted lip.
His right eye was purple and swollen shut, "See? I barely roughed him up. And trust me, this is nothing compared to what I'm going to do to him." Eric sneered as he let Fours head fall. Jade struggled in her chair even harder at his disgraceful words. "Don't you fucking touch him! I swear to god Eric if you lay one more hand on him I'm gonna," - "What? You're gonna what? Nothing that's what." Eric pauses for a moment, "Oh wait, I take that back, you're gonna sit there and you're gonna watch that's what you're gonna do." Eric says just before forcefully throwing a right swing into Fours gut, causing him to groan in pain. "Eric stop!" Jade yelled, but the pierced devil continued to beat on Four. "Eric please!" She pleaded and pulled against the tight duck tape even stronger. But Eric wouldn't stop, making Jade more infuriated then ever. She was so angry that she squeezes her own hands out of the duck tape that held both her arms. And it was mighty painful, she just didn't care.
She noticed Eric was too busy beating on Four to notice so she quickly ripped her feet out of the duck tape, and scanned the room. She spots a long metal pole loosely attached to the wall and makes a break for it and rips it off, inevitably getting Eric's attention. He comes at her but she swings the pole back just in time to nail him directly in the face with the other end. Eric falls to the ground hard and cold, she drops the pole and races over to Four. She gently lifts up his face and he manages to open his non-swollen eye.
"N-Natalie?" He weakly asks, "Yes I'm here, and I'm gonna get you out of this don't you worry." She soothing says as she notices there's a bolt lock that kept his hands bound by the chains, and of course this bolt lock required a key. She looked back at Eric, who luckily still laid knocked out on the floor. She walks over to him, uneasy at first and decides to makes sure he's knock out with a well deserved soccer kick to the side of his rib cage. "Should've used rope instead dumbass." She says to Eric once he was confirmed unresponsive, she flipped him over and checked all of his pockets, even his jacket pockets and had no luck. She then studied his face and realized there was something around his neck, she snatched the chain and to her luck there the key hung.
Just before she turned around to free Four she stared down at Eric in disgust, and decided to kick him once more and eventually, gave him the finger. She then rushed to Four's side and unlocked his arms, he was so weak and beat up she had to help him sit him down onto the ground. He looks at her as she sat on her knees in front of him and very gently pressed her forehead to his, "Nice swing you got there." He says to her, making her laugh with relief flooding her heart. Just then Four begins to fade away, just as the rest of the room around her. Suddenly, she is now sat inside the final testing waiting room again, with nothing but her friends near.
She can see Tris, Ben, Will and Christina all talking amongst each other but oddly enough her mind rejects the words her ears heard. Something caught her attention, a blinking red light coming from the same touch screen device Four once held. She stood to look at the screen and there her own brothers name was, blinking in red. Just then the door to the testing auditorium bursts open, its Four, unbeaten with a worried expression. "Natalie it's your brother." He says, and that all she needed to know her brother was in immediate danger. She rushed out the door past Four and could see Miles standing up next to the chair.
She could see a Dauntless member walking towards him reaching for an obvious gun behind his back. And even though Jade kicked her speed into full gear, it felt as if she were running in slow motion. The Dauntless member lifted his gun at Miles, pulled the safety to off and shot, and it was then Natalie tackled her brother to the ground beside them. Her shoulder stung as she lifted herself off of him, and the sight her eyes could see tore her fragile little heart into millions and millions of pieces. The bullet just barely grazed her shoulder and hit Miles directly in the heart.
Miles squeezed tightly onto his sisters arm as he held his own bloody wound. "M-Miles look at me, look at me. Stay with m-me, keep squeezing my arm. Keep you're eyes o-open, please." Jade pleaded with tears falling as she held and shook his jaw if he let his eyes drift closed. Soon the grip he once had loosened and loosened until he was no longer holding his sister. His eyes shut and in that split second, Natalie could feel a huge part of herself die as well. She went absolutely ballistic with her cries and screamed until no air or noise could be forced out of her lungs, and even then she continued to silently cry. She turned to the regret-less Dauntless member that had shot him, "YOU KILLED MY BROTHER!" She screams just before charging at him.
He tries to go for his gun again but surprisingly, he couldn't pull it back out fast enough. Jade tackled him to the floor and grabbed the gun out of his hands before he could get a proper grip on it, and presses it against his forehead with the safety pulled off. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't blow your fucking brains all over this auditoriums floor! And make it reeaal good cuz I'm feeling a bit trigger-happy at the moment." Jade spat, the man at the other end of the gun looked unfazed. "Your brother, was Divergent. That's a valid enough reason. Divergents poison this city." The Dauntless member retorts looking Jade directly in the eyes. Her nose twitched in complete hatred, "Oooh Okay, let's try this then and put yourself in my shoes, how the fuck would you feel if I put a bullet through your siblings heart?!" She shouts at him while pressing the gun into his head and drove her knee into his groin.
"I'd be relieved. It would be a shame but related or not, Divergence is against the law. There are consequences for everything." The Dauntless member says in between groans of pain, and that tore it for Jade. She scoff-laughed at how this Dauntless member would give his own life to pursue a 'perfect society'. Her hand was tightly wrapped around the gun, so tight her hand began to shake. She looked into the pale Dauntless members eyes, and could tell he didn't want to die, but she could also tell he meant every word he had said. Just then, she realizes what she was currently experiencing was nothing but a simulation, leading her to figuring out pulling the trigger would in fact cause the faction leaders to become suspicious. So she did the only thing that would seem expected by the leaders, and placed the guns barrel against her own head, and pulled the trigger. Inevitably waking her out of the final simulation.
