CH 6
How To Love A Witch
âMy lady.â
ââ¦â
âMy lady?â
I grimaced, hearing the familiar form of address. I didnât even want to think about opening my eyes.
âMy lord said if you donât wake up after the third âmy ladyâ, he will wake you up himself.â
Damn it. I opened my eyes because of a remark I couldnât ignore. As I grumbled to myself, I saw a smiling maid.
âGood morning, my lady.â
Good morning my ass. âCanât I sleep for ten more minutes?â
âMy lord said if you do that, he would carry you to his bedroom.â
Are you kidding me? âLook, Iâm awake! Iâm awake, all right!â I sat up and waved my arms around wildly.
Only then did the smiling maid nod and approach the bed. âYou should get used to this.â
âI will never get used to this.â
It had been fifteen days since Lukas declared he would make me a duchess. Fortunately, there were people in the castle who werenât afraid of me. My human husband was useful in this regard. Whenever he had the chance, he chased after me and annoyed me, but the people who saw it happen started approaching me, one by one.
âI understand. Nothing is more difficult to adjust to than my lord.â
ââ¦â
âJust accept it.â
Is this supposed to be advice? I sighed.
Knock, knock. Another maid entered the room. âGood morning, my lady!â
ââ¦Everyoneâs so energetic in the morning,â I murmured. These maids were responsible for serving âThe Wicked Witchâ. At the same time, it showed they werenât afraid of me. âHow come I only see you around?â
âThere are only four of us working in this house.â
âArenât we in a castle?â
âYes, but itâs divided into three areas. To make it easy for the servants to differentiate themselves, we call them House 1, House 2, and House 3. For your information, weâre in House 1.â The maid hurriedly brought a bowl with warm water and towels.
As I wiped my face with a damp towel, my exhaustion left me. âDo you manage this place by yourselves?â
âThere are maids who work in the kitchen.â
âThatâsâ¦â
âItâs true a few more servants would ease our workload, but⦠my lord doesnât trust outsiders.â
He didnât trust outsiders. I couldnât believe Lukas, who approached a witch without any hesitation, was such a person.
âMy lady, since you stay in your room usually, we only have to clean the areas you use frequently. Everything else is cleaned on occasion,â explained the maid who woke me up.
âHmm, I swore there were more maids when I first arrived.â Iâm pretty sure the number of servants who greeted me was greater than these four.
âPerhaps the maids you saw that day were from House 2 and House 3. Most of them are likely from House 2.â
âIs that so?â
âThey manage one of the mansions behind the main castle. I think you should stay away from there, for the servants are loyal to the royal family. Itâs also probably why theyâre arrogant and rude.â
The mere thought of it annoyed me, and the four maids pouted on my behalf.
âWhy are all the servants sent by the royal family in House 2?â I asked.
âWellâ¦â
Oh, itâs that again. The maids mumbled.
âSince youâre going to find out eventually⦠His Highness and my lord⦠donât get along very well.â
âIâve heard.â There was a lot of tension between the infamous crown prince and the popular duke. âIs it to keep an eye on him?â
âSort of.â
It was no surprise then that everyone from the royal family was sent to House 2.
âDonât worry, theyâre not allowed to go here. Youâre safe.â
âYes, my lord will protect you.â
I nodded; however, I didnât like that. I was curious about what House 2 and House 3 looked like, but I decided to push them to the back of my mind for now.
âCanât you treat my lord better? Please?â
âDespite his looks, heâs a very kind person.â
âHeâs also a perceptive man.â
âI wonât make any promises.â Are they actually talking about my husband? After exchanging glances, two of the maids quickly flocked to my side.
âOh, goodness, my lady has beautiful skin!â
âYes! Youâre so pretty!â
âDo you think Iâm going to fall for cheap flattery?â Theyâre using that tactic, huh?
âIâm telling the truth!â
âIâm so jealous!â
The rest of the maids chimed in their praise as they approached me⦠I donât think I can handle this. While they continued to compliment me, I noticed a large scar on one of the maidâs faces. âWhat happened?â
The maid smiled. âI got it when I was helping out in the kitchen as a child. The oil was hot.â
âI see.â Looking closely at the scar, it must have been very painful. âWhile itâs unreasonable for me to be nice to your lord, I might be able to do something about that.â
âW-What do you mean?â
âDid you forget I was a witch?â
The maidâs eyes were practically sparkling. âAre you going to use magic? With a wand? Will you speak an incantation?â
âOr are you going to put a lizardâs tail and horseâs heart into a cauldron?â
âMaybe my lady has a magic amulet!â
âI know what youâre all thinking, so please stop.â I got out of bed and retrieved a box from the corner of the room. It contained the items I brought after leaving Kartelle.
âMy lady⦠will I be reborn?â
âThatâs beyond my scope of abilities.â Once I rummaged through the boxâs contents, I pulled out a small bottle. The green liquid in it gave off a faint glow. âItâs impossible for a witch to intervene when a humanâs life is involved. I wouldnât do it even if I could. Besides, I canât use mana right now.â
âI seeâ¦â
âThat scar can be healed, however.â I smiled. âTake it. This medicine will do the job.â
âMedicine?â
âMaking potions is my hobby.â
While my sisters were stronger and more beautiful than me, I was confident in my potion-making skills. Even the Witch Queen acknowledged my talent.
âThis is a witchâs magic potion Iâve heard about!â
The maids were excited again, saying they read about potions in a book.
âAre you sure itâs okay, my lady?â
It was just medicine; however, it was still made by a witch. Can I just give it to her? I was worried, but seeing the maids dance in a circle made my doubts disappear. There were only four of them. They also were my maids. Everything will be fine.
Only later did I realize I made a horrible mistake.
