Saint Archangel
Death Contract (SELF PUBLISHED)
Saint Archangel
In this world, there are many things you cannot explain. Things that only believers can know and understand. Things that a person who lives only in this world to die can not comprehend. Human life is short. That is the biggest difference between them and other creatures that quietly and secretly live with them. Creatures with a single duty: that is to keep the balance of the world. The world is shrouded in so much mystery. Mysteries that only a few people know about and will continue to know about.
While walking down the hallway of the school, now called Adelaide Academy, which when I last visited was a forest, a forest that creatures like me call paradise, that place is sacred, and unholy souls are not admitted. A paradise where I remember my siblings and I playing and happily visiting the world with Dad. But many things have happened as fast as the weather in this world is changing. I was punished for a sin I don't remember. Fallen angels like me and those punished have no memory of the thing that caused the punishment. Whatever it was, it looked like a big thing that made Dad angry.
I couldn't help but shrug off, not remembering the past as my feet continued to walk amidst so many students just penetrating me.
Wearing a hat, a black cloak, black shoes, and carrying a small black envelope, I turned towards the Dean's office. Today I have a soul to fetch as my duty. Whether it is something I want or not, I will not be able to escape.
By an unexpected coincidence, I was continuing to follow the person I was going to pick up when, by an unexpected coincidence, someone suddenly stopped in front of the person who was destined to die today. I totally didn't expect her to suddenly look directly at me. In the few years I have lived as a Grim Reaper, I have never once experienced looking directly into the eyes of any creature, whether living or dead. But today is different from normal days. A student suddenly appeared and looked at me. At first, I thought she was looking in the other direction, so I ignored it.
When I turned to her, she was a woman in her 20s. Compared to all the other students here, she was unique because she simply dressed, wearing a simple blouse and skinny jeans while carrying a book.
"Dean, please don't go to your office today." That's what he said after touching the person I was going to pick up. I couldn't help but be surprised. But eventually, I realised he could actually see me and he could read what was going to happen. That's when I smiled.
It looks like she's the Guardian of the Soul of these centuries. The Guardian of Souls appeared in the year 2000.
"Dean, please listen to me. Don't go to your office just for today. " That's when I gasped for breath. In fact, no matter what a person does to avoid their death, nothing will happen. He will not die today. He will also die the next day because that is the design of death. They would just give the death compiler a lot of work for what they were doing, and they would bother us, who still had to hunt for fifteen souls per day and ten at night. Let's say we don't sleep and rest, but don't they know that it takes a long time to make death notes and reports to be forwarded to the ministry of death? Tsk! Worthless human.
The woman insisted on restraining her Dean, and I watched until late. Later, the students gathered, and some were already laughing at the woman. I couldn't help but tilt my head in astonishment. If you think about it, she is not related to the dean. What does she care if he dies? But I was also the only one who answered my own question. Well, she is the Guardian of the Soul, after all. It was in her nature to care about humans who were dying. Something she could snatch and give.
"Stop it, Miss Ivanovich! You're not funny anymore. Let me call your parents tomorrow. " After that, the dean left, so I followed. That day, I had no idea that this woman would be a big part of my life. A woman who will change and unravel secrets I don't remember. That's the first time I saw her, or the second if I count the incident that happened years ago. However, that day, I actually didn't know that she was the child of Eve, my destined bride.
Our next meeting was when she died.
"Code red! Code red! Calling for Grim 10897456 to the Afterlife Inn " This was the announcement I heard when I came out of the haunted house after the Grim Reaper conference at the Ministry of Death that lasted for two days. This century's death ministry is a huge amusement park. Senior Grim says it fluctuates with each passing century. Yet, I have no idea if that is true or not. Well, I don't care either.
The code mentioned was mine, so I went straight to the ferris wheel, which is on the way to the afterlife inn. However, before I could board, Gavin teased me.
"Poor you, you're always the one who's overwhelmed with work. Maybe their favorite is the fallen angel? " When he said that, I immediately set fire to his hat.
Tsk! Very talkative.
"What the hell, Saint! I just bought that pandora hat you burned. You know, it's expensive! It's worth another month's salary! " When he said that, I burned his clothes again.
"If you don't keep quiet, I'll burn you myself." I said coldly before riding the ferris wheel. When the door closed, I dialed the number towards the afterlife inn, number 7. Then I waited for it to turn once before going down. In a flash, it took me to the entrance of the afterlife inn. I went straight to walking in there, although it was closed, and later the door opened, maybe because they expected me to come.
This inn is like a hotel for those who cross over to the afterlife. They will stay here for 40 days before crossing over to the afterlife. Here also, in this inn, remains the Death Compiler.
As I entered, a large staircase greeted me. But that is not my destination. Grim reapers like me can't step on it either. So I turned to the left wing of the inn. All the employees there bow whenever they see me. There I went straight to the big door, which was the office of the Death compiler.
When I opened it, I expected to be greeted by flying report papers. This is not new; it is always like this every time someone enters her office.
"What are humans thinking of ruining my list like this? Don't they know that by ruining their lives they are adding to my workload? " Seraphina, the Death Compiler, screamed angrily.Like me, she was also an angel who fell from heaven and was punished by her father. The only difference we may have is that she was in the world a long time before I fell into it. She really doesn't have a permanent look, but rather a face that changes every time I see her. Whatever her sin was, she was punished with such cruelty that no one knows. Not even she has no idea. It's just like no one knows what she really looks like.
"Good evening, Ms. Seraphina." I greet her. She nodded, a sign that she was letting me in. Today, she looks like she's in her 20s. A woman with a gentle face, wearing glasses, raises eyebrows. Seraphina was also wearing a black dress while standing at her table with piles of papers. There is also an old typewriter that she still uses even though it is old.
"Saint, here is my new mission to you." She uttered it after pulling a brown envelope from her drawer. I didn't say a word when I took it from her. Based on the color of the envelope, I knew the mission was about capturing lost souls.
"It says there the name of the person you need to reap as soon as possible. It's a special soul, so I gave it to you. " I just nodded before sitting on the sofa not far away. From there, I read the contents of the brown envelope.
Name: Mary Sean Ivanovich
Cause of death: Suicide
Punishment: REAP
"I hope it ends as quickly as possible." I just nodded in response before deciding to stand up. However, before I could get out of the door, the guardian of the river of Pishon, Gihon, Hiddekel, and Phirat entered. Sacred rivers lead to Eden, which is the gateway to the afterlife.
"Bad news Miss Seraphina, the guardian of the soul, has escaped and is currently possessed by another body." That's what Gabriel said. The thing that caused the Death Compiler to rage.
"What escaped? How did she escape? And why did she do that? I thought she wanted to die, so she committed suicide and broke my list! Now she has merged with the others? Humans are so demented! " In her anger, the whole room really shook, as if things would not last long from the very strong presence of the Death Compiler.
That incident brought me to this position. Using a different body, I went to Adelaide Hospital where Hailey Perelman was confined to the body that was interred by the Guardian of Soul. After the case was forwarded to the Death Ministry, the judges decided I was sent to track down the Guardian of Soul to be a living reaper. This is a risk because the Guardian of Souls has the ability to bring souls back to their bodies and revive them. Something that, if it occurs, will result in the loss of the world's balance. On the other hand, it is also good because it will make it easier for the minister to find lost souls. Souls will surely roam around the Guardian of Souls.
But all this will only happen if the guardian of the soul signs the agreement. If she does not, and the Guardian of Souls refuses, she will live forever.Something that would only cause a lot of disaster for the people around her.
"Hijo, you're already here. It's good that you are in good condition. I'll let my daughter know you're here in a moment. " This is what the doctor told me about Hailey. According to data provided to me by the ministry, I am Hailey Perelman's boyfriend. But what is a boyfriend?
Although I knew nothing about that word, I did my job. Even whenever I work for the ministry of death, I seem reluctant. Something is telling me that this is not what I want.
"My daughter, I am your dad, so don't call me Doc, just Dad. Is it okay for you? " I heard them talking from outside the room. "By the way, someone wants to pay a visit to you. He said he misses you very much. " The doctor uttered something while maybe referring to me.
"W-who is it?" This time, I hear a woman's hushed voice in the distance.
"Your boyfriend, Albus, comes in." When Mr. Perelman ordered me to come in, I followed.
I immediately looked straight at my mission. A woman is currently lying in a hospital bed and I'm sure she's Mary Sean Ivanovich because Grim Reapers like me see human souls rather than their physical faces. When I looked at her there, I just remembered that she was the woman who saw me when I once visited Adelaide Academy. It was only at that time that I remembered that I had met the Guardian of Soul. Well, not that new. I often forget things that are not that important to me. Yet, I shrugged my shoulders at the momentary forgetfulness. Then I focused more on my work.
The Guardian of Soul's eyes were currently widening when she saw me. And I know it's not because of the owner of this body, but because of me. She sees me.
"Good day, Doc." my formal remarks "Hi babe!" Should I call her Hailey, or would it be better if I called her Sean? Yet she immediately looked away from me. Obvious fear.
I turned to Mr. Perelman again and he smiled at me.
You have to be patient with her, hijo.
I heard what he was thinking, so I smiled at him before looking back at the Guardian of Souls. But she was really scared of me, something that Mr. Perelman had already noticed.
"Hailey, are you alright?" The doctor suddenly asked her, and she immediately grabbed his hand so he wouldn't leave. Mr. Perelman seemed to feel the trembling in her hand. So he was alarmed.
Before she could say anything, I spoke.
"Sir, I will take care of her."
No! No! No!
I can hear Sean's thoughts.
"All right, I'll leave you two but-"
She was about to stop the doctor from leaving when his cellphone immediately rang. He answered it and then bid his goodbye to us.
"Are you okay, babe?" I nonchalantly asked.
Did he think that he could fool me?
"Whoever you are, get out of that body!" she threatened. Hearing those things made me grin.
"It's good that you knew right away. I thought it would take a long time for you to guess. " I said and playedfully as I sat on the sofa before closing my eyes. I need to get out of this body at once. This isn't comfortable.
As I leave Albus Wesley's body, it starts decomposing and smelling so bad. When my gaze went back to the Guardian of Soul, she was now holding on tightly to the bedsheet of the hospital bed.
He was the Grim Reaper.
And again, I hear her thoughts. She was praising my appearance, and that made my lips curve a little.
"W-who, are you? What do you need from me? ", as she asked me. I slowly approached her.
"I am Saint, and I'm here to hunt you down, but only because I am sure that you can't get off that body. The Death ministry assigns you to be a living reaper. No buts or anything suicidal. You want your death, right? So then, accept our offer. I want you to die peacefully, Mary Sean Ivanovich. Did I answer your question? " I introduced myself. That's when her forehead furrowed. With what I said, she gradually loosened her grip on the bedsheet.
W-wait, what? He is Saint, and he's here to hunt me down? Can't get out of this body? Death Ministry? Assign? L-living Reaper? What the fucking heck?
"What are you saying? You're a Grim Reaper, aren't you? If you want to take me, take me now too. Don't prolong it! I don't want to live anymore, so why am I here in this body? I'm dead, right? Mary Sean Ivanovich was supposed to be dead! I'm not Hailey Perelman. This is not me! It's not my body! " She hysterically uttered.
I couldn't help myself not to sigh. I thought she would understand it easily, but I guess that is not possible for a human like her. "It looks like you still don't understand me. Then I'll translate for-"
Before I could finish what I was about to say, she threw me the tray containing the food with a rage that only passed through to me. So, this is what anger is.
"Listen, I understand what you said. I'm not stupid! It's just that I'm still sane and, you see, I am human. You come here and then you tell me you're here to pick me up, but what? For what? You know I'm stuck in this body, so your death organization ordered you to offer me to be a living reaper of dead souls. For me to die as I want to? But, I am dead, right? Why am I alive again? You know, I committed suicide! You know, I'm dead. But why am I in this treacherous body? Aren't you a Grim Reaper? Make a way for me to get out of this body! " I listen to what she says and stare. Actually, I am not interested in whatever she's talking about. All I care about is for her to sign the contract.
"Are you done? You're being too loud."
What the hell with him? What an antipathetic bad spirit!
Antipathetic? Is that even a word?
I couldn't stand her depression, so I decided to explain everything, even though I hated it. "You died and rose again. You should not have died, but you did. They have not been able to accept you because that is not possible. You're not patient, so you have done nothing but merge with others. You possess that body. The problem was when it was time to pick you up. I can't find a way to get rid of you. It's your fault, Guardian of the Soul. So now they are giving you a chance. You have to serve them for you to die. You can do nothing other than accept the offer." Hopefully, she will understand it all now.
Wait for what? G-guardian of the soul? Who? Me?
"G-guardian of Soul?" She seemed shocked by what I revealed, yet I just looked at her. "What are you saying?" she asked.
This is so frustrating.
As I heard that thought of her, I sighed again for the third time. I'm actually getting tired of explaining.
"I'm not here to explain it to you. I'm here to find out what your answer will be. If you accept it, then it's a deal. If you refuse to do it, then live forever and be immortal. You can't die. Just live your lonely life with a different body and identity. "
A while ago, he was talking about the Guardian of the Soul and now being immortal. That was insane!
At that point, she closed her eyes. I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Compared to the first time I saw her, I could sense her remorse, loneliness, and tiredness. Things I don't know why made me care. I was about to take one step closer to her when she opened her eyes again, so I immediately took a step back. What am I doing?
I gulped at that moment, "W-what if I agree? Will you answer my questions? " As she asked, I grinned.
"Perhaps yes, but maybe not." She closed her eyes in frustration. I sighed again. What was happening to me? What is this I am feeling right now? Is this what they call "emotions"?
"I accept it." When I heard her answer, my head immediately went blank. So, this only means my mission is finally done. I smirked.
"Then it's a deal." As I said, I walked towards her. My footsteps could be heard throughout the room. When I got close to Sean, I held out the contract that the ministry gave me. The sudden appearance of it on my hand made the guardian of my soul gulp.
"W-what is that?" she asked while trembling.
"It's a paper. Are you blind? " I asked casually.
Is that a joke? Do I have to laugh? Am I obligated?
"It's not a joke, and don't you ever try to laugh." At that point, her eyes immediately widened. I don't know, but I feel like teasing her.
Oh my gosh! Is he reading my mind?
But before I felt worse, I started speaking about my purpose for visiting here. "This paper is a contract from the Death Ministry. You should not break any of this if you do not want to receive punishment. " Then I handed her the contract. She accepted it and read it. Actually, that contract was made by me. The paper is the only thing that the ministry of death gave me. But whatever is written on it, it will be a valid contract once it is signed by both parties.
First, this should be a secret. No human being would be allowed to know about your being a living grim reaper, and of course, your true identity as Mary Sean Ivanovich should remain a secret too.
While I am writing the first rule, I think it would be best for the two of us. That's probably not as big of a deal as I thought.
Second, you should fulfill your responsibility as a living reaper. It's like hunting lost souls and fetching death souls. That includes submitting weekly reports, death notices, and other important information.
Technically, she's also a grim reaper, so she will have to do our work too.
Third, work together with your partner. Don't nag, don't argue, and don't demand. Just listen and so be it.
I just hate noisy and talkative creatures. I don't want to end up smashing her face because of that, rather than setting her fire.
Fourth, be strong physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
I don't like weaklings. I am not a super hero in the first place. Whatever may happen to her because of her idiocy will not be my responsibility.
Fifth, you have to learn.
She needs to learn. In this world, not everything will just be poured out on her. In this world, there is nothing like that.
Sixth, you have to fight!
I added it out of boredom.
Seventh, dating is strictly prohibited.
Amm, let's just say out of boredom too? I don't know why I wrote it either. Don't ask me, I am still thinking deeply about why.
She looked at me with wide eyes. "Is this serious?"
"Would I give it to you if it's just some kind of joke? Do you think I am capable of joking, huh? "
There she closed her hands and rolled her eyes.
"You should sign it," I ordered. "You said it's a deal, right? So, right away, Ms. Ivanovich, you have to sign it. "
She silently gritted her teeth angrily to prevent annoyance. "How?" I casually looked at her and answered.
"Using your blood."
In the end, after all her complaints, the Guardian of Soul cut her finger using the bread knife at the side table for some blood. And sign the paper.
That made me grin again.
After that, I bid her goodbye and gave the contract to the department. Then, as soon as I finished writing a report, I went to the Afterlif Inn to ask something. But while going there, I met Gavin on the way.
"So you're going to Madam Seraphina too? Let's go together, bud! " He happily uttered this while trying his best to get close to me. Of all the grim reapers working for the ministry of death, only he has the courage to talk to me. Maybe it is because I am a fallen angel and they are only punished humans serving in the ministry. But, what's with Gavin really?
However, I chose not to be bothered by his presence and went on to my planned destination. As I entered Miss Seraphina's office, she was throwing report papers again.
"What are the two of you doing here? I am not even inviting any of you!'' She angrily greets me, and I am not bothered at all. But someone behind me is trembling with fear.
"My apology for the intrusion, but I am here to ask a personal question that only you can answer." When the Death Compiler hears my reason, she turns her gaze to Gavin.
"How about you, little boy?" What we are seeing in her right now is a strict 40-year-old woman.
"I-I am here for another mission." Gavin's muddled utterance
"Oh, I remember that I called you here." She then picked up a black envelope on the table and gave it to Gavin. At that moment, Gavin immediately ran outside. I just shook my head.
"So, Saint, what is it?"
"I'd like to know why Mary Sean is a guardian of the soul but appears oblivious to her role."
According to my memory, a guardian of the soul is born with knowledge of her role. But Mary Sean appears to have no idea what it entails. If I don't have knowledge about it, it will be difficult for me to work with her. So, before anything else, I need to know this.
"Hmm, it's either she forcefully erased it in her mind or she wasn't really the original holder of the role." That's the questionable answer of the Death Compiler to me that lingers in my mind up to this day.
"Are you okay, Hailey?"As the car came to a halt outside the gate of a mansion, Dr. Charles Perelman asked the Guardian of Soul. He's the one who is currently in the driver's seat of the car where we are now. At that moment, I could sense how uncomfortable Sean was, so I offered to answer.
"Don't worry doc, she's fine. She's just kind of nervous, right babe? " I try my best to act the way the owner of this body is, as I hold her hand. Actually, it isn't necessary to do this, but I did it as if I was enjoying it. Working in the ministry of death as a grim reaper for the past few years has taught me that what humans call "this feeling" right now is "enjoying."
The Guardian of Soul rolled her eyes and tried to break my grip, but I didn't let her, or rather, I couldn't let her.
Am I really doing this because I am afraid that she might run away, or am I doing this for my own agenda?
Whom am I fooling? He is a grim reaper, so he is stronger than me.
It's a good thing she knew.
When she looked at me, annoyed, I just smiled at her. A smile that made her frown.
It's creeping me out.
As I heard that, in her mind, I silently sighed. Am I annoyed too? Is that what I am feeling at the moment?
"Looks like my sister is irritated with you being clingy for today, my brother-in-law." Hazel, Hailey's sister, seemed thrilled to be watching us from the passenger seat.
"Is that true, babe?" I tried to sound like I was sulking, but her lips quivered because of that.
Can I beat this evil spirit?
I'm warning you: I can hear what you're thinking.
I had already warned her this time.
Yeah!
She pretended to explain in a somber voice, "I'm sorry b-babe, I'm just... you know, too tired." I couldn't help but smile.
"Is that so?" I asked. "Then we should go inside immediately. Hurry baby, let's go! " I can feel how her muscles almost trembled when I called her "baby".
Okay! I am getting annoyed.
Damn this Grim Reaper. He is terrifying me.
Are you testing my temper?
She stopped right there.
"Yeah!" After that, we went to the Perelman Mansion. But it seemed like the Guardian of Soul was tired on spending her whole day with me, so as early as shecould, she bid megoodbye.
"No, thanks dad. I will just take a rest. I'm kind of dizzy. " She then looked at me. "You should rest too, babe. Good night. Let's just see each other tomorrow. "
So, at that point, I didn't have a choice but to go. Yet, she can't get rid of me that easily. Using the car of Albus that Mr. Perelman was driving a while ago, I drove down to the alley where no one would see me. There I got out of Albus' body, thinking that it would ease the feeling of being annoyed. I was thinking that having emotions is a consequence of using this goddamn body. Yet, I am really annoyed at how Sean is treating me right there without a concrete reason. So, before I could even think about it, I had already teleported back to Sean, right in her room.
I saw how she sighed deeply in relief after lying on the bed, and it made me so annoyed.
"Seems like you are irritated with my presence, babe?" She almost jumped when she heard me, but I just sat with Hailey, the owner of Sean's body, in a queen-size bed.
Okay, just calm down, Sean! Calm down.
Now she's afraid? What the hell? And why the hell am I so annoyed for that reason? It's not as if it's new; she was like that from the first day up to now. But, why can't I help but get mad? Seriously, what's wrong with me?
"You! Can you not use your dark powers on me every time you pretend to be Albus Wesley? " There she shouted. I couldn't help but furrow my brow.
"Dark Powers? What the hell? " I said emphatically. After almost 3,000 years of living as the angel of time in heaven and years of being a grim reaper, this is the first time someone has insulted my abilities.
"Don't you know the annoying word? I can now introduce you, "she sarcastically uttered. "I get irritated every time you say something with your ability. I'm not used to it. At least I'm still human and---"
"Rule No. 3."I warned.
That's it. He won.
When I heard her thoughts, I sighed, but she then threw something at me from the side table. I couldn't think of any reason why she did that, even though she knew that it would only pass through me.
"What was that?"
"I hate you!" she glared at me. So I looked at her, amazed.
I hate him.
"I will kill you now!" she threatened, while looking at me badly. I was about to ask her when she rushed me. Then, right there, Sean hit me and immediately threw a punch. That's when my hat was removed, and I got hit in the face.
"Oh my gosh!"
"Fuck!"
What the hell is wrong with this woman?
However, when I was about to complain about what she did, she started praising me in her mind.
Why has this Grim Reaper become so beautiful in my eyes right now? Damn it!
While looking at myself in that position, I can't bear not to look at her either. Like I said, we grim reapers see the soul, not the body of the beholder. Looking at the Guardian of Soul this close, I can see how beautiful she was.
When she was about to get up, I smiled. She was a bit surprised when I squeezed her waist and laid down on the bed. Now, she's below me. At that point, I felt her nervousness.
"Hey! W-what? " I smiled even more when I heard her stagger. "Let me go! Please! I'm sorry okay, I won't do it again, I swear! " But instead of letting her go, I pulled her closer and whispered in her ear.
"Better do something with your beating heart, babe. Remember the rules. "Dating is prohibited." I teasingly said. There, her cheeks became red.
Oh my gosh! What the hell is he talking about?
She was about to scold me when I swapped our positions. Now she was on top of me. Looking at her, I remember my little brother. My only human brother, named Adam, and how he was in love with his human wife, Eve. That memory takes me back to the time when I was watching them from above, looking at each other in the same way that Sean and I are right now.
Suddenly, I smiled at her as if to bid her goodbye.
"Sleep tight Sean, sweet dreams, "then I kissed her forehead and softly caressed her cheeks as I decided to go back to the car because I couldn't take my emotions anymore. Seeing her, holding her and kissing her forehead is beyond my control. If I stay a bit longer, I may add a sin to pay. Angels aren't supposed to feel anything other than glorifying their father in heaven. But in the glimpse of my memories a while ago, as I watched Adam and Eve, I felt envy. And as I did the same thing to Sean, I felt happy and contented.
Is this really just the consequences of using that Wesley body? I need to find out.
There, I decided to run the car back to Wesley's residence, where Albus Wesley's soul is currently staying. He's a lost soul and I am not going to reap him without an order, even though I can. His Grim Reaper should take the action, not me. But today, perhaps I will reap his soul and deliver him to hell, where my other brother is currently residing.
That brother of mine is the only realisable source of information about why I have been punished by God, our father.
Albus Wesley's soul was terrified when he saw me enter his mansion with his body. I no longer bothered using my hands to open the door because it was opened on purpose when I arrived. People are currently asleep inside the mansion because it is already in the middle of the night. The lights were off and no other sound could be heard other than the slow closing of the door as I entered.
"Good Evening, Wesley." I nod nonchalantly. Yet, he began to tremble like a human who would become a victim of some crime. This is the most ridiculous part of our understanding of humans. They do something inhumane to others, but when karma hits them, they all act like they did nothing wrong and are victims.
We, grim reapers, have this ability to snell souls, and with Wesley's being around, it makes me want to puke on how rotten he smells.
"Who are you? What are you? " He angrily asked, "Get off my body, it's mine, you scumbag!" I simply looked at him before I sat down on the sofa near by.
"Calm down, Wesley." As I get off to Wesley's body, I am talking to him. "After all, this body is not yours anymore." After that, I slowly approach him, who is now stunned as he gazes at his decaying body.Without the presence of me, that body will decay, whether by pros or cos. "The human body molded from the earth will return to the earth." That means everything created or made will go back to where it came from, and that canât be stopped or changed by anyone. "In a flash, I was close to him. I choked him and quickly slammed his head on the floor. I canât use my sword to reap him, even if thatâs the fastest way, because I need this bad guy to get to hell where heâs headed. He will be my key to talking to my estranged brother. So he had to die with my strength. "Albus
Wesley, son of Alejandro Wesley, as one of the angels of death. I am reaping your soul today. You may now perish in the hellish fire of hell. " When my hand finally caught fire, Wesley was screaming in pain. And as it finally disappeared, his body sank to the floor due to my heavy presence and determination. I have to get to hell. This is my only way to know the truth. Things that creatures in the ministry of death can not say.
A few more minutes later, I maintained my presence, which is why the windows shattered and the furniture in the mansion flew away. But it was not long before the gates of hell opened. It finally swallowed Wesley's lifeless soul, and I went with him. Unlike its body that fell directly into the bloody river, I took out my wing and flew towards Lucifer's castle in the very centre of hell.
Various cries of wailing are what I hear around me. Others ask me for help as they look up at my glowing wings. Something that never disappeared, even though I was punished for a sin I donât remember. In fact, there is one more thing I wonder about. All I know is that only ice will be the power of the angels of death. But fire is in me, an element unrelated to the time I once held in heaven. Ice is a representation of repentance, but fire is anger. Their power is in line with the last emotion of a grim reaper, which is why I really wonder why I seem to hate the judgement on me. Was my anger the reason my father sent me away? But what is the reason for me feeling that way? The last thing I remember is my father and I still talking about my brother Adam, whom my father planned to resurrect. Whatever the reason, I will also know that through Lucifer.
My flight had not been long when I felt a flaming arrow approaching me. Blue is the color of that fire, and I know thatâs from my brother. I quickly avoided it, so it didn't hit me. However, it multiplied more and more, so I could do nothing but use my power. I teleported towards the source of the arrow. It took me to the very top of the castle, where Lucifer was holding an arrow, as if shooting a bird. He immediately felt my presence, but before he could move, I was already ahead of him. I quickly drew my sword and aimed it at his neck. Of all the siblings, Lucifer and I were reconciled then, at a time when he had not yet sought power more than his father, our father. He is not able to reject me because I am his favourite younger brother, while he is the oldest of us.
"I was told that someone had entered my kingdom without permission. It was just you, Saint. Why did you get a visit? Do you miss your older brother?" As he said those words, his weapon disappeared, so I did the same thing. This just means he doesn't want to have a big fight with me.
"I'm here to ask." Then he raised an eyebrow before sipping from the golden cup that suddenly appeared in his hand. "With the number of creatures you can approach, you pick me, brother. You know, all my services are paid for. "
"It's about my father's reason for why he cast me out of heaven." I said directly. But he just laughed at me.
"Is that the only thing you came here for? How did you think I knew that, when like you, I was exiled too? " Lucifer laughed out loud, as if laughing at what I was saying. Yet I remained adamant that he knew what I was asking. Because he's the former angel of memory. He is the only creature who can know the past of a creature more than anyone else can. "It's also been over five years since my father took back that ability of mine when I lost in our fight on the Tigris River. Don't expect it. " He made a serious statement.
"Father sent me away for about a decade and a half. I know you once glimpsed my past when you found out I was punished. I know you, Brotherâ,"
I hadn't even finished what I was about to say when our surroundings suddenly changed. We went inside his castle, where there was a throne at the top of the stairs in front of me. while three people were hanging upside down above.
"Don't pretend you still know me, Saint." At that moment, I felt the knife pointed at my neck. "I'm not your brother anymore!" he shouted. But I did not budge.
"In that case, Lucifer, I still want to know what my sin was." He laughed at me again before turning around for a moment while the knife was also spinning around my neck.
"You know, I won't do what you want without a replacement, my brother."
"I expect."
"In that case, present what you can offer."
"Three lives of obstructed humans." He was stunned.
"And what am I going to do with them? Every day, I receive thousands of souls of obstructed humans. " That's when I smiled at him.
"But they are all souls. Well, I can offer you a living human being. " There he laughed again.
"You're going to kill? Then you know when you do that you'll spend a week on the bridge of hell. Don't make me laugh. A day in the human world is years here, Saint. " I turned to him.
"More than the two of us, I know you need a human body more to get out of hell. You've also been imprisoned here for five years, haven't you? " I knew I would commit a great sin and I would spend seven years in this place just to pay for it. If Lucifer can also come out, he will not be silent and cause trouble again. Will prepare for an invasion of heaven as if he could defeat the Father, which he cannot.Yet what is important to me is to know the truth. Thatâs what matters.
"You're crazy."
"I'll take the offering two days after today."
"You know, I'll wait two more years for that, you damn grim reaper!"
"Then wait." After that agreement, I left and returned to the world of humans. For two days, I was busy retrieving souls, making reports and re-recording their lives in the library of death. At the same time, I am also looking for something to offer. But even so, I was still able to visit Sean using Albus' body, sometimes not.
When the day came that Lucifer and I talked, I decided to visit Sean again. I would have used Albus' body. So I visited the Wesleys' mansion. It was just that they seemed to be looking forward to my arrival. They seemed to already know of my presence in their mansion.
When I stepped inside their house, I could not move. And I know the horse's blood is the reason why because I'm stepping on it now. When I turned around, Albus's father and mother were busy with a shaman praying, as if they were calling for someone. That's when I shook my head. They still thought I was an evil spirit.
I had no intention of noticing them anymore and would have gone to Albus' room when I smelled their souls. When I took his soul, there was the soul of Albus, and its memories returned to my memory. He was a murderer, and now his father and mother seemed to be no different.
I'm sure that worthless old man was haunting our mansion. I should have really crushed his head when I hit him with a hammer.
When I tried to read what was on Mrs. Wesley's, that's what I heard. I couldn't help but smile. It looks like I've found what I have to offer.
Right at that moment, I removed my hat and burned the horse's blood, which was preventing my movement, before slowly approaching them. The shaman's eyes widened as if he did not expect the presence of death. Iâm sure not a few souls he was able to toy with caused him to be qualified as an offering.
"Who are you?"
"What's going on? I thought your old man was haunting the mansion. Who is this Melinda? " Mr. Wesley asked.
But with fear, the Shaman stopped the two couples from arguing.
"Don't look straight into his eyes! He's a grim reaper; that's death! " The Shaman shouts in horror. "What are you doing here? Forgive us! " It was there that I used my teleportation skills, so I immediately got behind the Shaman. "No one will be released from my hand! Otherwise, he will take our souls! " He warned, but it was too late. In fear of the couple, they were already running. Thatâs why it became easy for me to take their body and soul.
With the three, I went to hell again. Lucifer greeted me there with a wide smile. "As discussed," I said, simultaneously pushing the three unconscious.
Here we are at an altar inside his castle. It looks like here he is performing the ritual to use the bodies of the three offerings to get out of hell.
"Good! Good brother! " Then he burst out laughing. I watched his actions. There, I noticed that he was commanding his disciples to take the offering. His dagger was also raised as if ready to stab me in the back. So I drew my flaming sword and aimed it at the necks of the offerings.
"Tsk! I thought I'd be able to take care of you. "
"Don't expect, where's the answer I'm looking for?"
"Fine!" He seems reluctant to say anything. But he stabbed me, so I could do nothing but point my sword at the shaman. That caused a neck injury and a small amount of bloodshed.
"You will lose the chance to get out of this place of yours if you continue this game, Lucifer." I threatened. It was there that he lost his grin and eventually sighed. He soon decided to grant my request. From his temple, he pulled what seemed to be a glowing streak of memory. Something he could do to others back then, now he can only do it for himself.
"This is what you want; take it and leave," he said before throwing the thread of his memory at me. When I got it, his disciples rushed at me, who did not count for a second to be burned before their knife hit my body.
"You're not really going to stop, are you?" I asked Lucifer without emotion. He winced.
"I just tried," he said, while yawning. "Go ahead and leave." When I accepted the thread of memory, I immediately left hell. As I was going out, I put the thread in my temple, which immediately entered my brain. Since then, everything has come back to my memory. I expected Lucifer to have manipulated something in the memory he gave, but there was none.
My envy and jealousy of our youngest Adam returned to my memory. The first time I saw Mary Sean Ivanovich as the baby destined for me, it came from heaven. How Eve thwarted my plan and the fate of baby Maryâs death so we could meet and she would be my heavenly spouse. How Eve agreed to make her daughter, who was destined to be my wife, the next Guardian of Soul. How the ministry of death consented to that event in exchange for Eveâs life to balance the world. And how the destiny of the two of us has completely changed.
Now I understand the anger I feel. This world is so deceitful that I canât quite accept everything. This is why fire is my power. I do not regret it because, until now, I was angry with the fate of the two of us. Like Adam, I also wanted to have a partner who would complete me, but when I finally got what I had been waiting for for almost three thousand centuries, everything turned out like this.
I couldnât help but blame God for what was happening. Something that became my biggest sin was punished like this. Because of the resentment and temper at my recurring memories, I ended up visiting Sean. She is currently sleeping in her room, so I decided to sit on her mini sofa and just watch her. Sean was so fast asleep that she was unaware of my presence.
This woman would have been destined for me as my wife. If so, she is the creature I am destined to love. But, what exactly is love?
Within just hours, that question was repeatedly troubling my mind. I couldn't help not to sign for the reason that I can't figure out what love is. But, as soon as Sean's eyelid moved, I knew she was awake. "So, are you awake?â I asked.
âIs it obvious?â she asked, but I didn't answer her. I stare at her intently as she gets off the bed.
âYou stare at me all night, do you?â she asked incredulously.
âI did.â
âAre you not sleeping?â
âThat's because I'm not human.â I answered. And maybe I don't know what love is because I am not human either. âI guess you are too content with being locked up here in this mansion to forget that. May I remind you that you are not here to enjoy life? Or maybe you have changed your mind and you do not want to die now. â From what I said, she seems to be mad at me. Yet, Sean composed herself.
âI will just take a shower,â she said before turning her back to me. As she went inside the bathroom, I teleported back to Wesley Mansion to pick up Albus's body and his car. I drove toward Perelman's residence, so it will look like I paid a visit. I also carry the black card that I am planning to pick up today, as I planned to take Sean with me yesterday, yet got postponed for my own reason.
If I head straight to the Ministry of Death without even being able to pick up the soul today, he will become a lost soul. And also, I will stay in hell for seven days as my punishment. That's for sure. I will not be able to reap it and will add it to my paper work after the punishment.
"Oh, she's already here. Hailey, my daughter, come, Albus is waiting for you. â Mrs. Perelman happily said it when Sean and Hailey's bodies came down the stairs. I just watched her as she came down.
She greeted them with a smile, then turned her gaze to me, who immediately stood up to kiss her cheek. I just remember that this is how lovers greet each other. Yet, this feels weird. Will I really love this woman? What does love feel like?
After that, I held her hand and helped her sit up. This is what Gavin told me to do when I asked what boyfriends do.
âYour boyfriend asked for permission to let you out. It just happened now because every time you go out back then, you two don't ask for permission, "said Mr. Perelman happily.
âYou're right, dad. I don't know if I'll be grateful for that or be weird. â Hazel, Hailey's sister, replied, "Confused."
"But if you come out, don't speed up the car, okay?" Mrs. Perelman seems worried. So I reassured her.
"Sure, don't worry, aunt. I will take care of her. â with respect, I said. This bunch of humans has a good heart. I can smell their good soul, so I approach them with respect.
After eating breakfast, which I am not used to doing either, I take Sean with me.
âSo, where are we?â She immediately asked after getting in my car, rather than Wesley's. "Wait, do you know how to drive? As far as I can remember, the grim reapers don't know anything about thingsââ
I interrupted her as I drove the car downhill.
"Stop watching entertainment. Those are not true. â As I said, she just frowned there and chose not to look outside. So, I added, âToday, I'll be going to teach you how to be a living reaper.â With that, she will not look dumb about what we are going to do next. Besides that, I have this excitement every time I am with her. Is this love? If not, what is this? âAnd the first lesson is that you have to train yourself to stare at souls, grim reapers, or whatever else you see that others do not see. In short, you have to deal with fear. â That's when she turned to me. âIn this world full of hypocrites and fear of change, try to accept the fact that there are things in the world that only a few know and have the right to know.â That's when I also turned my gaze to her. There, we stared at each other silently for a few seconds.
That day, I felt like she was close to me and so was I to her. But there is the fact that we are on both sides of each other's worlds. I need to remind myself that destiny has changed and if we continue now, nothing will happen. Yet every moment I have had with her has been one of the few times I have been able to be truly happy in the three centuries I have lived.
As I walked in the middle of the bridge, its floor was full of knives and flying arrows, but I was still smiling. I am now in hell and paying for my sins. I had to walk across the bridge of Hell that was 21,000 kilometers long, with a floor full of knives and flying arrows. I will walk around here for seven days, or the equivalent of seven years in hell. However, if I am asked if I regret what I did, I will wholeheartedly answer "no" and I will never regret anything I do for Sean in the future.
