Chapter 22

When I woke up in the morning I rolled over and found an empty bed.  I sat up and looked around, the sun streamed through the windows and Kade was nowhere in sight.  I heard voices coming from the kitchen so I got up and quickly dressed.  Darby, Matt, and Kade were all standing around the kitchen island talking quietly.  When they saw me they immediately stopped talking.

"What's going on?"  I questioned.  Darby sighed and looked at Kade,  who mumbled something under his breath.

"Well?  I'm not a child don't treat me like one! Now, what the hell is going on?!" I yelled at them.  Kade quickly came to my side placing his arm around my waist.

"Addison calm down.  We were just discussing a few theories about who left that box.  I don't want you to be scared but I have spoken to the head of my security and they reviewed the security footage from your building.  There is no footage of anyone carrying a box in but there is footage of Grant leaving the building yesterday."

"Grant? Do you think Grant would do this?  He might be a jackass but I don't think he would do this."

Darby looked at me curiously.  "Why wouldn't he Addi?  He wanted you back and I'm sure he wasn't too happy about having his ass handed to him by Kade."

"No I'm sure he wasn't but he isn't crazy I really don't think this is his style."  I sighed and Kade pulled me closer to him.

"You never know what a desperate man will do.  I'm not saying for sure it's him but it's a good possibility.  I hired a private investigator to follow him around so if he does anything else we'll know about it.  For now you girls are staying here.  I'll get to the bottom of it.  I also called Nora and told her you won't be in.  If you need to work you'll have to do it from here."

"What? I can't even go to work?! What the hell Kade you can't just keep me locked up in this damn penthouse!"

"If it means you'll be safe I can.  I'm not arguing with you about this.  Whatever you need or want can be brought here."  He let go of me and went pour his self another cup of coffee.  Darby and Matt exchanged a knowing glance at each other but didn't say anything.  Some best friend she could at least help me out here!

"I'm not a prisoner you can't make me stay here!" I yelled.  "This is ridiculous."

"Addison it's not safe for you to go out where you can't be watched properly.  You can throw a tantrum all you want but I won't change my mind.  If anything happened to you I couldn't handle it."  He spoke softly giving me a defeated look.  A guilt trip huh?  Ugh! Just fucking great I'm stuck inside because some jackass sent me a box!  I know I must be acting like a bitch but this too much to handle.  I like my space and now I can't even go to work.  I rolled my eyes at Kade and walked away.  I retreated to his bedroom and slammed the door.  I threw myself on the bed as he opened the bedroom door.

"Baby..." He breathed quietly.

"What Kade?! You wanna chain me to the bed too?!" I groaned.  He laughed lightly coming toward me.

"That does sound tempting."  He whispered in my ear as he kissed my cheek.  "Don't be upset with me I know it's a little extreme but it's for your own good and my sanity."

"A little extreme? Kade really?! It's ridiculous I'm practically on house arrest."

He hovered over me and placed his hand on my cheek gently.  "I know this is hard for you but I'm going to figure out who this is for sure.  It's only for a few days."  His sky blue eyes pleading with me to cooperate.

"Ok fine."  I huffed and he grinned.

"If it makes you feel any better I took the day off to stay with you."

"Oh, you did huh?"  I ran my hands down his back.

He leaned down kissing my neck softly.  "Mmhmm."  He mumbled into my neck.

"What did you do that for?"  I asked as I ran my hands under the hem of his shirt running my fingers lightly over his abs.

"So I could keep you distracted."  He whispered as he ran his hand down my side and squeezed my ass as he continued to kiss down to my collarbone.

"Well, it's definitely working,"  I whispered as I took his face in my hands pulling him up to me, and kissed him.

It was late afternoon by the time we emerged from Kade's bedroom. Matt and Darby were on the couch watching a movie.

"About time you two came up for air," Darby called as we entered the living room. My face turned red and Kade laughed.  "Your phone kept ringing earlier Kade,  I finally answered it.  Some security guy said to call him back it was urgent."

"Ok, I'll go call him back.  Why don't you order something for dinner babe?  There are menus from all over the city in the top drawer."  Kade kissed my cheek and headed off to his office.

"I want pizza!" Darby stated.  "Oh and beer!  If I'm gonna be stuck here I need a drink!"  Matt smirked.

"Sounds good to me too."  He called to me as I dug thru the drawer for a pizza menu.

An hour later the three of us were standing around the kitchen island eating pizza and sipping beer.  Kade still hadn't come out of his office and I was starting to wonder what was going on.

"How much longer do you think we'll be stuck here? I'm in desperate need of a night out." Darby questioned as she finished her beer.

"I don't know Kade said a few days so maybe by the end of the week you'll be free to go out." I opened the refrigerator and handed her another beer.

"I hope so. This place is nice don't get me wrong but I'm bored as hell already. Let's do something fun!"

"I can think of a few things to keep us occupied." Matt winks at her and she laughs.

"Keep it in your pants, Matt. I meant something other than sex. I think we had plenty of that last night." Darby smirked at him.

"What do you have in mind Dar?" I asked curiously. There is really no telling what she is planning for entertainment.

She grins and goes into the living room hooking her phone up to Kade's sound system. She turns on some random pop song, turns the volume wide open, and starts dancing. "Come dance with me Addi!"

I finish my beer and join her. Matt stands there laughing at us as we dance around Kade's living room with the music blasting. A few songs later we are both breathless and giggling like children when Kade enters the room.

"Having fun?" Kade asks shaking his head.

"Yes! You wanna dance with me?" I grin at him.

"Maybe later babe. Right now I need to talk to you." He sighs. Darby turns off the music and Kade motions for us to sit down. "I think you should all hear this."

"What is it?" I haven't really paid much attention to the way he was looking at me before but now I could tell he was pissed. He had that look in his eyes he has before he loses it. His hands were shaking as if he was trying to control them.

"Addi...." He breaths and looks away from us. "Sorry I just need a minute to collect myself." He states as he walks to the kitchen. I get up and follow him. He opens a cabinet and gets a bottle of whiskey down. He doesn't even bother with a glass he drinks it right from the bottle.

"Kade are you ok? What's wrong?" I step in front of him and reach out to touch his arm but he steps back away from me.

"I thought I had calmed myself down enough to talk about it but now I'm not sure I have. Just give me a minute ok babe?" He breaths and I nod silently. I'm trying to stay calm but the way he is acting is starting to freak me out. What the hell does he know that's pissing him off so badly? Darby and Matt joined us in the kitchen.

"What's going on?" Darby asks getting another beer out of the refrigerator. I shrug at her and she gives me a worried glance.

"I know who sent the box," Kade said suddenly. The three of us stare at him waiting for him to tell us. After a few minutes, he still hasn't said anything and I'm getting impatient.

"Well, who the hell was it?" I demanded.

"Addison I swear I had no idea she would do anything like this. Although after everything she put me through I guess I can't be surprised." He finally spoke.

"She? She who? What the hell Kade just tell me already!"

"Jules.  She sent you that box.  She wants to scare you into breaking up with me."  He sighed and took another sip of whiskey.

"Why so she can have you back?"  I questioned.

"I guess? I don't know what the hell she is thinking.  But I'll make sure she stops this shit and leaves you alone.  I won't have my ex running around trying to fuck up our lives."  He states.  He still looks pissed his fist is clenched and although I don't think he would hit a woman at this point he'd probably like to.  I hadn't met this Jules bitch and I hope for her sake I don't because I wouldn't hesitate to kick her ass.

"So we've been hiding in this damn penthouse because of your crazy ass ex-wife?" Darby yells.  "You have got to be kidding me.  I say we kick her ass.  Where's this bitch live Kade?  I'll take care of this little problem."  The look in her eyes tells me she's not joking.  It's nice to have a best friend whose willing to kick someone's ass for you.

"That won't be necessary Dar.  I'll kick her ass myself."  I state.

"I'll come for back up.  So where does she live?"  Darby questions Kade again.  He shakes his head at us.

"You are not kicking anyone's ass.  I'll talk to her.  If you two go around causing a scene the media will get involved." He sets the whiskey bottle down and looks at me. "I know you are pissed babe but just let me deal with her ok?"

"Fine but I'm not staying under house arrest because of her. I'm not scared of her and if she tries anything else she's getting an ass-kicking of a fucking lifetime!" I tell him honestly and he shrugs.

"This means we can go home right?" Darby questions.

"Yes, I think so I don't think Jules is a physical threat to either of you she just wants to scare Addison," Kade tells her.

"I'll go pack! Come on Matt it's still early we're going out tonight!" She grins pulling Matt in the direction of the guest bedroom. "Do you want to come Addi?" She calls to me.

"No, I'm good have fun, Dar!" I laugh shaking my head.

"I always do!" She calls as she enters the guest bedroom.
