Chapter 28

Complicated Fairytale

"Addi..."

"Come on Addison..."

"WAKE UP!!!" A shrieking voice filled my ears. I groaned and rolled over. Waving my hand motioning for them to go away.

"Get up! I'm not going anywhere!"

I huffed in frustration and sat up slowly. My head began to pound and I felt queasy. The bright light streaming through the window made me squint my eyes. I looked around slowly taking in the view around me. How did I get here? What the hell happened last night?

"Addi... What happened? You look like death warmed over. Why aren't you with Kade? And more importantly, when did you get here?" Darby's face came into focus. She was in pajamas with a high ponytail on top of her head. Her red pajama shirt fit tightly, her normally flat stomach beginning to poke out.

"Too many questions at once Dar." My voice came out dry and horse. I groaned holding my head in my hands.

"Are you ok?" Dar looked down at me sympathetically as I sat groaning on her couch.

"I feel like I've been hit with a Mack truck."

"How drunk did you get last night? And why isn't Kade beating down the door to get to you? What the hell is going on?"

"I don't remember Dar... I..." I couldn't finish my sentence my chest felt tight at the mention of Kade's name. Flashes of our fight flooded my mind. I know I overreacted it isn't Kade's fault Jules is crazy. I just didn't want to deal with it anymore. I hit my breaking point and there was no going back. I remember leaving the penthouse and taking up residence at a local bar downtown, the rest is fuzzy.

"You don't remember? You drank until you blacked out? You haven't done that since well I don't think you've ever done that." She looked surprised. I was always the responsible one, she would get blackout drunk in college. I never drank enough to get that far gone. "Did you and Kade fight? I don't understand. You were so happy when you left here yesterday." I nodded and took a deep breath. I explained everything to my best friend except what I couldn't remember. She was quiet for a while which was unusual for her. My head continued to beat like a drum, as I got up and got a bottle of water. I drank the entire bottle and still wanted more. As I opened my second bottle Dar looked over to me.

"Addi. I think you should talk to him. He loves you and you love him. Don't let Jules ruin what you have."

"Can we not do this right now?" My head was killing me the last thing I wanted to do was listen to this.

"Fine. But you know I'm right. You can't just ignore him, all of your stuff is at the penthouse and his dad invested in your company. You can't run away from him Addi." She entered the kitchen and poured herself some cereal. "I'm starving so if you want to talk about this anymore you'll have to wait until I'm done." Like I needed a reminder. I know I can't just walk away that would be too easy. Did I even want to walk away? I love Kade but I just can't deal with the drama. Between the media, Jules and the Jacobs being such a high profile family it had all become so complicated. Happily ever after only existed in fairytales. I heard a phone vibrating and looked at Dar, who shrugged.

"It's not mine." She spoke with her mouth full of cereal. I guess being pregnant meant she no longer cares what she looked like when she ate. She was guarding her cereal bowl like someone in prison and choking it down so fast I thought she might eat the bowl too. I followed the buzzing sound to the couch and dug my phone out of the couch cushion. A number that looked vaguely familiar appeared on the screen.

"Hello?"

"Addison. Good morning baby how are you feeling?" My mouth fell open at the sound of his voice, my heart hammered in my chest, why would he be calling me?

"What do you want?" I bit out nervously.

"I just wanted to check on you. You were pretty drunk when I dropped you off at the apartment last night." He brought me here?! Oh this can't be good. Kade would have a fit if he heard about this.

"You... You brought me home?" I stuttered.

"You don't remember do you Addi?" He laughed. This is so not fucking funny. Of all the people in the world, how the hell did this happen? "I sort of figured you wouldn't remember. It's a shame too because we had such fun together. Just like old times."

"What the fuck are you talking about Grant?!" I began to panic. Darby's eyes widen at the mention of his name.

"It's ok, baby I didn't hurt you I made sure you enjoyed it. I love you Addison we belong together, last night you certainly didn't deny that."

"Are you crazy?! Do you even hear yourself!!? Did you rape me, Grant?! Because if you did the devil himself won't be able to stop the hell I'll unleash on you!!!!" I screamed.

"Addison seriously I would never rape you. You wanted it. In fact, you started it. That night at the Jacobs estate was a terrible mistake I was out of my mind drunk I wouldn't have hurt you Addi. Last night was an amazing baby how about you come to meet me for lunch and we'll talk."

"Talk, you want to talk?! About how you took advantage of me when I was drunk!!"

"I didn't do anything I haven't done before Addison. If you don't come talk to me I'll just have to post this lovely snapshot I took last night. I'm sure the world would love to see what Kade Jacobs's fiancé does behind his back." He chuckled and I began to shake violently.

"You wouldn't!!" I shouted.

"If you don't come give me what I want I damn sure will Addison." His voice sounded so twisted I didn't even recognize it.

"What do you want Grant?!"

"I want my life back! That asshole took it from me. I lost everything when I lost you, Addison. I want you naked in front of me and I want you sober this time." He breathed, I sank to the floor clucking the phone desperately. Darby came over to me and took the phone from my hand.

"You listen to me, you dick, if you don't leave her alone I'll make your pathetic life even worse!!" She growled at him and he laughed.

"If she doesn't show up at my house by three p.m. I'm posting this picture. I may have missed my calling. I should have been a photographer because she looks good enough to eat with her jeans around her ankles in this picture. Three o'clock Addison!!!! Or else!!" He hung up as I began to sob. I cried until my eyes hurt. How did I let this happen? I've never been so wreckless. I only remember ordering three drinks surely they couldn't have been that strong. If he posts a picture of me the media will have a hay day and Kade's family will be embarrassed all over again. This would be much worse than anything they'd been through before. We were engaged and it would look like I was cheating on him. Did I cheat on him? Technically we broke up so I guess it wouldn't be considered cheating. Maybe Grant was bluffing. Maybe nothing even happened. Darby tried to console me but I couldn't get out of my thoughts long enough to even acknowledge her. I sat on the living room floor hunched over crying for what seemed like hours. Darby sat close by keeping an eye on me. I finally looked up at her and she gave me a small smile.

"What the hell am I going to do Dar?" My voice cracked as the sobs came again.

"We're going to call Kade and explain the situation. You have to tell him before this gets out of hand." Tell Kade? Has she lost it? Pregnancy must be getting to her brain.

"Seriously?! He will kill Grant!! No way are we calling Kade."

"Then what you go have sex with Grant so he doesn't leak a photo that may not even exist!! Kade won't forgive you for that Addison no man would. You need to tell him now so he can fix this. He can shut Grant up."

"If I slept with Grant that will kill him! He won't be able to control his self Dar! I'll be responsible for Kade losing his mind and killing Grant!"

"Don't be so dramatic I'm sure he wouldn't kill him. Beat his ass of course but the bastard deserves that. If he took advantage of you, you can press charges Addi."

"Press charges..." The thought rolled around in my brain for a while. But if I was drunk and agreed to it they wouldn't do anything to Grant, would they? He is a lawyer he would just get one of his buddies to get him out of it. It would never work. "He has too many lawyer friends Dar." She rolled her eyes.

"I'm calling Kade! He can fix this." She reached for her phone and I stopped her.

"Dar think about what you are doing! You've seen how he behaves do you really think that's a good idea?" My eyes pleaded with her. He wouldn't just forgive me for this. I made such a big deal about Jules and this was way worse. I may have even had sex with my ex. Once he knew about this, there was no going back.

"She's right Addi. You need to tell Kade. The longer you wait to tell him the worse it will be." Matt appeared in the doorway in only pajama bottoms. I didn't even know he was here. "Sorry to eavesdrop I didn't mean to. Addison's screaming woke me up." He walked over to Dar kissing her forehead before he made his way into the kitchen for some coffee.

"You have met Kade right?" I questioned him.

He laughed. "He'll be pissed but he'll get over it eventually. He loves you Addi. He looks at you like your the only thing in the world that matters to him. Everyone sees it but you."

"I know he loves me Matt but this is unforgivable. I wouldn't forgive him for screwing Jules." Tears soaked my pink blouse that was now full of wrinkles.

"If he finds out from someone else it will be worse Addi. Just tell him, he deserves the truth from the woman he loves." I nodded slowly. Matt is right I can't hide this from him no matter how badly it might turn out. This could put the final nail in our relationship. Darby reached for her phone and dialed the number. It rang a few times before going to voicemail. Darby tried three times to no avail.

"Well, what now?" She looked at me and then to Matt who shrugged. I pulled the key to the penthouse out of my purse.

"I guess it's time I went home." I sighed. Matt and Darby got dressed quickly deciding that it wasn't a good idea for me to go alone. The three of us got in Matt's car and drove to the penthouse. We entered the building in record time. I placed my key in the lock and slowly opened the door. As I entered Darby gasped behind me.

"Holy shit..." Matt mumbled. The room was in shambles. All of the furniture was broken. Glass from the window that had a huge hole in it, was scattered all around the floor. The balcony doors were broken, they hung open and off their rails. The TV was even busted. I sighed as I tried to make my way down the hall.

"Be careful," Darby called after me. Drops of red were on the floor leading to our bedroom door. I bent down to get a closer look and realize it was blood. Blood? I pushed the bedroom door opened. My eyes scan the room. My heart leaped out of my chest at what I saw. I hit my knees and let out a blood-curdling scream.
