Chapter 3

Complicated Fairytale

Darby smiled up at him. "Actually could you call us a cab? She doesn't drink very often and those blue motorcycles got to her."

"I was just heading out for the night I can drop you girls off if you'd like?" He smiles and my knees get a little weak, he really is gorgeous. I shake my head at Darby and she just laughs.

"That would be great Kade." She replies and I poke her in the side. "It will be fine." She whispers to me.

Ugh! I don't trust this guy at all and now he is taking us home. What the hell is Darby thinking?

"Ok ladies follow me." He leads us to the back entrance of the bar where a limo is waiting in the alley. He opens the door for us and waits for us to get in. I steady myself as I climb into the limo. Falling into a limo would be embarrassing. He slides in after us and shut the door.

"What's your address?" He asks Darby.

"2100 Maple Avenue. King's tower." She says smiling. "Thank you for doing this."

"It's no problem." He pushes a button and a man speaks.

"Where to Mr. Jacobs?"

"Kings Tower James."

"Ok, sir."

"So kings tower huh? That's a nice place." Kade states smirking.

"Yeah, it is my dad wanted us to have the best." Darby shrugs.

He reaches across and pours his self a drink from the minibar. "You girls want anything?"

I laugh shaking my head. "I think I've had enough."

Darby grins. "You definitely have. None for me I have a late date after I get Addi settled."

"With who?" I ask her.

"That bartender. I told him I'd meet him after his shift. Plus it's only twelve it's still early." She grins.

"One of my bartenders?" Kade asks.

"Um yeah? I'm not gonna get him in trouble am I?" She asks. Kade laughs shaking his head.

"No, it's none of my business what they do after work as long as they do their job." He states. "Just curious who is it?"

"Jake." She smiles.

"Good choice he is a nice guy a bit of a player but nothing you can't handle I'm sure." He smiles at her. She laughs and doesn't say anything.

"So Addison what do you do?" He asks me.

"I have an event planning company," I reply. Not exactly sure why he cares what I do.

"Oh too bad we hadn't met previously. My sister was looking for a wedding planner." He states.

"Yeah, that's too bad," I say rolling my eyes. Like I needed his help getting clients or something. This guy is unbelievable. The limo stops outside of our building and he gets out holding the door for us.

"Thank you, Kade," Darby says as she climbs out. I follow after her but I trip over the curb and I feel my ankle twist as I try to stand. Darby grabs a hold of me holding me up.

"Addi are you ok?" She asks looking concerned.

"Sure." I lied trying to put weight on my ankle as I winced in pain.

"Bullshit, your hurt." She states.

"Kade do you think you can carry her upstairs? She shouldn't be walking on it."

"What?! No Dar! I'm fine!" I yell at her and begin trying to walk but soon realize it hurts too much.

Kade laughs. "Hardheaded isn't she?" He asked Darby like I can't hear him. Jerk!

Darby nods laughing. Kade comes up behind me and lifts me up with ease carrying me bridal style. "Lead the way." He says to Darby. I sit in his arms looking up at him taking in his features. His strong jawline, his five o'clock shadow is making an appearance. I gaze up at him, it is a shame he is such an ass because he really is sexy.

He looks down at me catching me staring once again and grins. "It's ok babe I don't mind if you stare."

"Do you think your ego could get any bigger?!" I yell at him and he just laughs.

"I have something much bigger than my ego darling." He whispers to me.

"That's it!! Put me down right now you ass!" I wiggle trying to get down.

He throws his head back laughing and shakes his head. "Relax I was only kidding."

"Kidding my ass! Why are you helping me anyways? Don't you have some girl in your bed waiting for you?"

"Why are you jealous?" He grins at me.

"Jealous? Of what? More like I feel sorry for her!" I huff at him. He just shakes his head. We reach the apartment and Darby unlocks the door.

"Just put her on the couch Kade. Thanks for all your help. I can take it from here, I'm sure your busy." Darby tells him.

He puts me down on the couch and Darby goes to get me some ice.

"You should stay off of that foot for a while and let it rest." He says to me.

I roll my eyes. "Thanks for your help you can go now!" I huff.

Darby brings me the ice. "Ok you stay here and rest, I'll be back in a few hours. If you need anything call me ok?" She tells me picking up her purse.

"Wait what? You are leaving me? But I can't walk!" I yell at her.

"I told Jake I'd meet him I don't want to stand him up. I won't be gone that long!" She argues.

"I can stay and keep an eye on her if you want Darby," Kade replies. What the hell why would he voluntarily stay here with me?!

"No that's ok I'll be fine!" I tell them both.

"Actually that's not a bad idea I swear I won't be that long." She winks at me and I feel like kicking her if my ankle wasn't so screwed up I probably would.

"I'll be back soon!! Thanks, Kade make yourself at home."

He takes off his jacket and starts unbuttoning his shirt.

"What the hell are you doing?" I ask him.

"She said to make myself at home. Relax I wasn't going to take it off I know that would be too much for you." He smirks.

He leaves the top two buttons of his shirt unbuttoned and slides off his shoes. "Now do you have any whiskey around here?"

"In the top of the cabinet over the fridge is where Darby keeps her liquor," I reply. "I still don't understand why your helping me. I would be fine by myself."

He goes into the kitchen and finds the whiskey. "I'm not the asshole you make me out to be. I'm actually a nice guy." He grins and sits down across from me with a glass of whiskey.

"I'm not going to leave a woman who can't walk by herself. My mom raised me better than that."

"Well thanks, I guess but it's not necessary," I tell him laying my head back against the couch. "I'm sure your moms proud," I say sarcastically.

He just stares at me taking a sip of his whiskey.

"What?" I ask him.

"My mom passed away three years ago." He states.

"Oh, I'm sorry really I didn't know." I tell him. Great now I look like the biggest bitch ever.

"You don't know who I am do you?" He asks.

"Not until Darby told me tonight no. And it wouldn't have changed anything if I did."

"Most people know all about my family or at least they think they do. Half of what they print in those ridiculous tabloids isn't even true. It's kind of nice meeting someone who doesn't kiss my ass because of who I am."

"I wouldn't dare kiss your ass no telling where it's been." I tell him grinning and he laughs.

"I think we got off on the wrong foot Addison. I'm sorry if you thought I was a jerk." He smiles at me. "I'd like to start over if that's ok with you?"

His smile makes me dizzy or maybe it was the alcohol. Either way, the room was moving faster than normal. So I sat up. "Ok, I guess." I tell him shrugging.

"Are you ok? You look really pale?" He asks me looking concerned.

"Just got a little dizzy. I think I'm ok now."

He gets up and goes into the kitchen. He brings me a bottle of water. "Drink this it will help."

"Thanks." I say taking the bottle from him. He leans over me to look at my ankle and I can smell his cologne. He smells so good it's intoxicating. It's like a woodsy sweet smell. I breathe deep taking in his scent.

"Your ankle doesn't look swollen so it will probably be better tomorrow if you stay off of it." He says sitting down beside me. I drink the water and set the bottle down. "Feeling better?" He asks.

"Yeah a little better. I'm not dizzy any more." I smile at him. "Thanks for putting up with me. But I'll be fine you can go if you want."

"I'm not leaving you by yourself. I don't mind staying I'd like to get to know you better." He grins stretching his arm out and resting it on the back of the couch behind me.

"Oh, really what for?" I ask him. Why did he want to get to know me?

"Because your intriguing, funny and did I mention beautiful?" He smiles at me.

Wait what? Was he hitting on me? Why the hell would he be hitting on me? I'm not a hot model or actress. He could have anyone he wanted. I'm just an average girl. Brown hair, blue eyes, tall and slim but there was nothing special about the way I looked.

"Uh ok? I tell him. "What do you want to know?"

"How old are you Addison? You look really young." He asks smirking at me.

"Twenty-four. How old are you?"

"Twenty seven but I'll be twenty-eight next month. What about your family? I just realized I don't even know your last name." He asks sipping his whiskey.

"It's Hayes." I tell him yawning.

"Hayes? You mean Richard Hayes is your dad?"

"No my uncle. My mom's brother. My dad went MIA when my mom said she was pregnant. So I have her last name. My uncle helped us out from time to time he is a great man. He even paid for my college."

"He is a good guy we've done some business deals with him over the years." He sets his cup down and turns toward me. "So what do you do for fun? Darby said you don't drink often so I take it you are not a party girl. Plus over the last couple of months I've seen Darby at every club and bar I've been in but I haven't seen you."

"Nope, not a party girl. I go out with her every once in a while. I work a lot so when I'm off I like to rest. I read and I like movies. I like to travel when I get time, but that doesn't happen very often."

"I see. So your not very adventurous?" He asks.

"No? I mean I like to try new things. I just don't have the time or the money to do so. What do you mean by adventurous what do you like to do?" I asked.

"I'm very spontaneous I like to just drop what I'm doing and take off on vacation or start a new project. I like to surf. I've been sky diving. I love basketball. I've traveled all over to see games and I like to cook." He smiles at me and I can see just talking about it has excited him.

I laugh. "Well not everyone can afford to do all that you know some of us have to go to work every day."

"What you think because my dad's rich he just hands me money? He doesn't he actually cut me off at one time. He isn't too happy with me because I don't take the business seriously enough, his words not mine. He thinks because I'm spontaneous I lose focus and money. He thinks I should just stick to working for him but that isn't what I want. So I started my own businesses and now I don't even need his money."

"What kind of businesses? I know you own the bar. What else do you do?" I was curious he must make a killing to dress the way he does and have a limo.

"I own a restaurant. The blue plate. And I own a couple of apartment complexes. I actually just bought this one." He shrugs.

"Wait you own the freaking building?" I asked in shock.

He laughs. "Yeah bought it about a month ago. Got a pretty good deal too this place was going under your lucky I bought it." He smiles.

"Seriously? Well thanks, I guess." I say laughing. "Does that mean I can have a break on my half of the rent?" I ask joking.

"You can stay for free as far as I'm concerned, babe." He winks at me and I laugh.

"Gee thanks, Kade." I grin at him.

"You're welcome darling." He smiles and I yawn. "You can lay down if you are tired I'll stay up and wait for Darby."

"I've got work early in the morning," I say yawning.

"I thought you owned the company? Can't you go in when you want to?" He asks.

"Technically I could but I'm always the first one there and I have a lot going on. I have an anniversary party this weekend and a wedding that is in a month that nothing has been done for."

"Don't you have help? Can't someone else handle the details for you?" He sips his whiskey.

"Well yeah if need be they could but I like to handle those things myself," I reply and he nods his head.

"I understand. Do you want to change out of that dress so you can sleep? I can get your pajamas." He asks.

"Umm, I guess. My pajamas are in the top drawer of my dresser. My room is the first door on the left." I tell him. He nods and goes down the hall. Oh shit! I shout at myself my lingerie is in the same drawer as my pajamas. Oh my god, how embarrassing. Why did I let him go get me pajamas anyway how was I going to change?

He comes back carrying my pink cupcake pajama bottoms and a white t-shirt. He smirks at me. "I saw some interesting things in there Addison." I feel the blood drain from my face after his comment. He laughs. "It's ok don't be embarrassed babe I'm sure you look great in them." He winks.

"Ugh, you were doing so good don't be an ass!" I whine.

"Just telling the truth." He smiles.

I roll my eyes. "Go in the bathroom and shut the door I'll yell when I'm done changing."

"Or I could just stand right here and watch." He smirks locking eyes with me and I feel chills run down my spine. I can't think straight when he looks at me like this. All I can imagine is kissing him. Hello!!! You have a boyfriend, you idiot!! I shout at myself. Oh my god, Grant hadn't even crossed my mind one time tonight. I don't think he would like Kade to be here with me like this. I should definitely tell Kade about Grant. A part of me didn't want to, I kind of enjoyed him hitting on me. Well, maybe more than kinda of. But what girl wouldn't he is gorgeous.

"Um, Kade. I think I should tell you something." I tell him.

"Like what babe?" He asks.

"I have a boyfriend."

"Oh." He states shaking his head.

"Sorry I guess I should have said something earlier." I could see the disappointment in his eyes and I felt bad.

"It's ok. It wouldn't change anything I honestly don't care if you have a boyfriend." He shrugs.

"What the hell does that mean?" I ask him.
