Man Shopping
3 Stepbrothers
Yeah so thanks guys for the supportive comments. But I realized that there is more than just one person. I also just want to point out one thing to those that think its just such a good idea to steal books. Yeah so I'm 14. Freakin' 14! To all those older than me, who are taking books, even those younger I mean come on. Use your imagination for a book, don't use someone else's hard, cherished work. I came up with this and if I could come up with this story, I don't care how much you say your a bad writer, you can come up with a story too. I thought I was a terrible writer. But everyone has imagination, just find it and don't take ideas. Its sad and I was considering deleting the book and just go and publish.
Other than that I hope you guys liie the chapter. To all my awesome fans I made it extra long.

Suzie's POV
To say it was an awesome day was an understatement.
What I wondered though was why Tori wasn't telling Mark. If Mark got mad or if he felt betrayed, then what? Tori can't live without him. Conlan and I always make fun of them. Making jokes about them getting married and stuff.
Well Conlan is a different stroy. He's literally been there for me my whole life. And he's funny, sweet, kind.....
I stopped myself and grabbed my pajamas heading for the guest bathroom. Everyone had already gone to their rooms and now I was changing in the guest room.
When I was done I let my head fall onto the soft pillow and let sleep over take my consciousness.
I wasn't sure when it happened. It was dark outside and it must have been incredibly early in the day. But it happened.
A ear piercing scream went through the house and I jolted up in my bed.
I had never experienced this feeling before. At first I didn't know what it was, but then it hit me. Terror.
It was easy watching the door. I just stared at it as my heart beated faster and faster in my chest. Then the door creaked open and everything washed through me. Every little feeling of fear racked my body. Down to my toes.
A small figure stood at the door once it swung open. I sighed in relief when I noticed it was Conlan. He rushed over crawling his way to my side and wrapping his arms around me.
"Conlan what was that?" I barely managed to whisper.
"It's ok Suzie. Dad has nightmares sometimes. Just go back to sleep." He replied.
"Please stay," I gripped his shirt letting him know not to leave me. He simply nodded and got comfortable on the bed.
I think Mr.Bennett screamed one more time that night. The second time he did, Mark showed up and got on my other side. A thrid scream wasn't heard, that at least calmed me the rest of the night.
Cole's POV BEFORE
"Bye guys. Have fun man shopping." Suzie shouted as she and Tori headed out. I couldn't help but smile. She's a strange child but now she's my sis. And so is Tori. I've always wanted a little sibling. I mean sure Shawn is my little brother, by like....three minutes? Around that time. And at first I hated the concept of having stepsisters, but I've grown to the fact that they are now part of family. And it's about time I show them that they're accepted. Well by me anyways. Shawn is still warming up to the idea. And Blake......I haven't talked to him in forever.
A pang of guilt hit me. I haven't talked to him in forever. We always used to talk....
Shawn and me decided to wait up for Blake in the living room. Dad had already told us that mom wasn't feeling well. Probably just a twenty-four hour flu or something. Maybe a cold. It was getting colder outside now.
Which brings me to Halloween. I couldn't wait for our party. We always decorate the house and make sure stuff pops up from random corners. When we were in sophomore year the seniors asked to come, and my brother and I just laughed in their faces. We had invited them the year before, when they were juniors, but they said hanging with freshmen was social death. So all the seniors came, along with the sophomores and freshmen. They then rubbed it all in the juniors faces. The next year when they were seniors, we decided only to invite sophomores and juniors. Just to piss them off.
"So what are you and Em going to do on your date?" I asked Shawn.
He shrugged, "Em invited me to dinner so her aunt could meet me."
"Her aunt?" I asked.
"Bug off Cole." Shawn said hotly even though he smiled, "She's my girl, not yours."
"Oh well shit damn and piss," I said while smiling causing Shawn to laugh. "Guess I'll just have to deal with it," I added. The whole 'SDP,' or as my brother's would say, was something we made up in eighth grade. We just thought it would be something funny to say until the teacher caught us and called mom and dad.
When our laughter died down Shawn layed back and we were left in a comfortable silence. I was the first to break it, "You really like her don't you?"
Shawn nodded, "Yeah. She's different."
I rolled my eyes, "Yeah and your completely bonkers for her."
"Cole," Shawn looked directly at me. His eyes looking straight into mine, "Didn't you ever think about settling? Having a lot of girlfriends is nothing like having one that you really like. You can actually talk to them, and since they like you back they help you figure everything out. Whenever I'm with Em I feel like I'm going to explode with joy and happiness. Don't you want to feel that?"
I didn't know what to say at that point. I never had thought of it like that. I never really thought someone would love me for me. But Shawn had just told me that Em doesn't love him for a night, she actually likes him. All I know is that when you have a girlfriend in highschool. You always break up with them. The guy rule: You don't take your girlfriend with you to college. That's just something people do.
When I finally felt like I had a response Blake just had to come down the stairs, "So where to?"
Shawn kept looking directly at me but I stood up and faced Blake as I grabbed my jacket and put it on. "Well....weren't we going man shopping?"
"We should go to the Pavilion." Blake said.
"Ooh la la. De Pavilion no?" Shawn said with a thick French accent.
I couldn't help but smile and Blake shook his head.
"So the Pavilion?" I asked just to be sure.
"Yes little brother. Now lets get out of here." Blake pulled the keys out of his pocket and we all walked towards the garage. I raced Shawn to the passengers seat and won.
"Dammit!" Shawn hollered as I stuck my tongue at him and got in the car.
Blake laughed, "That never gets old."
"Don't be so cocky Blake." I muttered.
"I can be as cocky as-"
"Don't!" Shawn interrupted, "Don't go there."
I rolled my eyes at Blake, who was laughing so hard he couldn't put the keys in the ignition. When he finally did he started the engine and the radio turned on. Blake turned the volume on low and started to talk.
"So what's going on for you two?" He asked, "Any homecoming plans?"
"Nope," I said popping the 'p.'
"I haven't asked Em yet but she'll probably say yes." Shawn added.
"We have to win the game though." Blake added.
Football season wasn't over yet. We had the last game and after the game we have one hour to get ready for homecoming. We have special permission from out football coach to try out for soccer and still be able to play. It was a difficult schedule, and at times its exhausting, but its worth it. This was the last game of the season and soon we'd start soccer.
"We will." Shawn added.
Blake pulled out his phone and even though there was that whole, 'No texting while you drive' law. He texted. Then he looked towards me and flicked his eyes to pocket where my phone was at. As casually as I could I pulled out my cellphone and switched it to silent. Blake nodded in approval and with one hand he drove and the other he tapped the keyboard on his phone.
"If we crash and die I'm blaming you." Shawn added.
"Uh huh." Blake responded, "That's nice." I rolled my eyes. Whenever Blake was distracted that's what he would do. He'd act like he heard what you said and then add a cheap response that would never make sense.
He finally put his phone down and the screen on mine lit up. I unlocked the screen and checked the unread text. No shocker it was from Blake.
'Should we tell him?' It read. I glanced at Blake and nodded. He grinned, "Hey Shawn..."
"That'd be me." Shawn blurted.
"Did you have time to read the homecoming vallet?" I asked.
"Nope." Shawn said.
"Well as you know," Blake started up, "I have three hundred contacts and I have the whole twelfth grade wired."
"And as you also probably know," I said, "You and Em are just such an adorable couple."
We didn't say anything so Shawn could plug it all in.
"You guys rigged it! Mother F!" Shawn shouted.
I broke into laughter and Blake did too. Blake high-fived me and then we fist bumped. About a week ago we had to vote for the homecoming king and queen, well me and Blake had thought about getting Shawn and Em to be king and queen by texting all of our contacts to vote for them.
"We didn't rig it." I said to calm Shawn down.
"We just told everyone to vote for you two." Blake said for me.
"I haven't even asked her yet!" Shawn shouted.
I smirked, "Ask her today."
Shawn layed back and looked out the window. He seemed deep in thought so me and Blake just didn't say anything.
It was funny watching Shawn be so interested in a girl. I thought it was werid at first but then I saw the spark in his eye. The one that would light up whenever we talked about his precious Emily.
I didn't know why but I had this strange feeling inside of me. Like my heart was feeling left out or...jealous. Jealous? But I've never been jealous of Shawn before. I mean Blake sure all the time. But Shawn? Shawn? Only once have I been jealous, and that is because he is the youngest and I'm middle. The stupid middle.
So why was a I jealous? I didn't know. Maybe its because he seems happy. Like actually happy. And I want that. I want to know the feeling of this happiness that my little brother is experiencing.
"We're here," Blake stated as he parked in a free spot. I hadn't even realized we had arrived.
"That was quick." I muttered stepping out of the car. Shawn took a step beside me while Blake searched for his shades. Once he found them he put them on and I assumed he was looking at Shawn and me. His shades were so dark, all I could see was my reflection.
"How'd I look?" Blake gave us a smile and we laughed.
Shawn fanned his hand at his face. "Oh my god call an ambulance," he said high pitched, "Blake has his shades. His shades! Like that is totes sexy stuff there. Omg I'm going to faint. Cole catch me."
I laughed harder while Shawn fell into my arms. Blake shook his head, a curl on his lips. "Come on Hollywood. I didn't come all the way here for you to put on a show." Blake grinned at me, scratching his nose.
"Well at least I know Cole will catch me." Shawn added. I laughed, "Speaking to soon my brother."
I let him go and he fell onto the pavement. Blake laughed and high fived me as Shawn scrambled to his feet. He kept rubbing his elbow and when he looked down at it, there was a small scrap. "You guys are mean. Seriously take a hit will you?" He walked off leaving Blake and I to stare and try not to laugh.
We walked towards the angry Shawn. Covering our mouths sometimes to block the snickers escaping between our teeth. "Oh come on Shawn we were just playing," I said catching up to him, "We didn't mean to hurt you."
"Yeah yeah." He shrugged my hand off his shoulder and continued to walk.
"Hey Shawn," Blake stood at his other side and took off his shades, "Would it make you feel better if you wore my shades?"
I had to admit, even I wanted to wear Blake's shades. He never let anyone touch them, much less wear. Although in occasions like this, he'd be nice enough to let one of us use them.
Shawn smiled and nodded. "Yeah. But it has to be for the rest of the day."
Blake sighed deeply. "Fine but if you break my Ray-Ban I'm going to be beyond pissed."
"Ok ok can I wear them now!" Blake handed him his shades and Shawn quickly put them on.
"Sweet," Shawn nodded his head as he extended the word out. He put his arms up in a Superman pose and puffed his chest. As he talked his voice had lowered down an octave. "I'm Blake the badass of the school. Don't mess with me or I break your face!"
I grabbed my stomach as I laughed while Blake shook his head. "Your such a dickhead." Blake muttered.
"Oh I'm Blake," Shawn continued, "My little brother walked in on me once while I getting a BJ."
That did it. I leaned onto my knees laughing so hard tears formed in my eyes. Then it got worse as Blake chased Shawn around the parking lot. A man with two kids passed by. The father stared at me strangely so I did the normal thing and swirled my fingers on either side of my head signifying that we were crazy. He grabbed his daughter and sons hands, fast walking away.
"Guys come on I want to go to Hollister." I said loud enough for my brothers to hear over the shouts and yelps of Shawn's running and Blake's chasing.
"He started it," Blake muttered as we started walking.
"I started it?" Shawn said in disbelief, "No no no. You said things about me and Hollywood."
"Then Cole dropped you." Like a click they both looked at me. In union they shouted, "You started it!"
I rose my hands up in surrender, "If I admit I started it can we go to Hollister?" I asked.
They crossed their arms and for once they looked like brothers. Even if Blake was taller by a head or so. "I don't know? Should we punish him?" Shawn asked Blake.
"Well he was laughing wasn't he?" Blake added.
At this point I just smiled and slowly backed away from my brothers. "Oh come on guys. You love me." I said nervously.
They both looked at each other with devious smiles before looking back at me. So you know how people say twins and triplets have some sort of telepathic communication? Well right now I knew exactly what my brothers were thinking. In a few seconds I was bolting away from the parking lot and towards the sidewalk where the strip of stores were.
I heard them chasing after me and dodged a women with a stroller. She gaze me a digusted look but I didn't care right now, I was just trying to survive my brothers. When I looked behind me, I saw Shawn quickly apologizing to the woman while Blake continued to chase me. I looked back ahead and a door opened from the store ahead. I dug my heels into the pavement, but then again I was never a fan of physics.
I rammed into the door, my forehead hitting the glass and I fell to the ground like a rock. I put my hand on the bump forming on my forehead. My eyes were closed and a painful groan left my lips. I think time passed by, but I was in a haze.
"Cole?" I heard someone say, "Hey buddy can you hear me?"
"I blame you Blake." I muttered opening my eyes. Blake and Shawn were kneeling beside me with goofy smiles on their faces.
"Are you ok?" Said a feminine voice. I arched my neck looking up at at the girl. Her eyes were green, that was the first thing I noticed. Then the strawberry blonde hair.
"Hey," I said with a croak in my voice, "Don't I know you?"
She laughed softly, "Come on lets get you inside."
Blake and Shawn each grabbed one of my arms and hauled me up. For a second I saw black dots and put my hand on the bump. My brothers steadied me while we walked in the store.
"We have a lounge in the back," The girl led us to the back of the store and to a door that read Employees Only. She opened it up and I saw a fridge, two vending machines one for snacks and one for drinks, a sink with a few cabinets above, a leather couch with a matching armchair, and a small coffee table in the middle with a few magazines. The room was painted a yellow and I saw a few dots around but I think that was just me.
"You can lie down. I'll get you some ice for your head." She said walking to the fridge.
Blake and Shawn walked me to the couch where they layed me down. I sank down in the cushions, propping my head onto a pillow Shawn brought from the armchair.
Blake pulled up the coffee table, pushing the magazines aside and sitting down. "You ok man?"
"Yeah I'm fine. My head hurts though."
Shawn laughed, "Course it does. You rammed full force into that glass door."
"What store is this anyways?" I hadn't really paid attention to my surrondings as I walked in. But now the curiosity was getting to me.
"Hollister." My strawberry blonde nurse said walking towards me with a bag of ice. "I was opening the door for a customer with too many bags and you crashed into it."
Well at least I ended up where I wanted to be.
"I swear I've seen you before." I blurted out. She looked so familiar. I just couldn't put my tongue on it.
"Do you have a flashlight?" Shawn asked. She nodded and walked over to one of the cabinets.
Then it hit me. Cleats....smirking....don't mind my brother.
"Julie?" I asked.
She froze on her tippy toes the flashlight in her hand. Blake shifted position on the table and Shawn raised an eyebrow.
"So you do know her?" Blake asked.
"You are Julie right?" I asked ignoring Blake.
"My name is Jodee. It was a name tab misprint." She said handing Shawn the flashlight. I smiled to myself form remembering and nodded. This was the girl I remember seeing at Dick's. When Tori and I went to buy her soccer supplies.
"Cole look at me." I did as Shawn asked and he put his fingers on my eyelids. He kept my eyes open while flashing the light across my eye checking for concussion.
"Well I don't even think you have a mild concussion, but you definitely have something." Shawn said after a few swips of the flashlight.
I nodded and layed back against the cusions, shifting the ice on my head.
"I can't wait to tell everyone at school about this," Blake laughed, "I can picture it already. Cole Parris gets mild concussion ramming into Hollister door."
The torment at school would probably be bad. But lets face it, I'm Cole Parris. I don't get tormented.
I was about to say something when the door opened up and a guy started yelling. "Jodee it's not your break why are you in the lounge?"
Jodee rolled her eyes, "I'll be out in a minute Dalton."
I looked up at Dalton. His hair was a greasy black and his eyes looked like a bulls right before they were let out from the rodeo cage. He looked older than us, around twenty or twenty one.
"What are people doing in the lounge Jodee?" Dalton forced a smile, even though you could tell he was mad due to the furious clentching of his teeth.
"Lounging," Jodee answered handing me a water bottle.
"Thanks," I muttered softly twisting the lid and craking it open.
"Only employees are allowed back here." Dalton added.
"Fine," Blake stood up and already he was a couple inches taller than Dalton, "But I'm not sure the media will love the story saying you kicked out a kid with a concussion?"
Dalton frowned like he was thinking it over, "Right and I suppose you'll get a lawyer as well."
"Our mom's a lawyer." Shawn added.
Dalton narrowed his eyes onto Blake and Shawn. Then he looked at me and to just play with it I threw my head back and groaned. "Ughh I see butterflies."
While Dalton wasn't looking, Shawn gave me a thumbs up. Jodee smirked but Blake kept glaring at Dalton.
"He can stay for couple more minutes then you two take him back home." Dalton finally said. "But employees only, so either shop in the store or get out."
"But-"
I cut Blake off, "It's fine man. I'm not moving anywhere."
"Fine." He muttered under his breath. He and Shawn both slapped hands with me before heading out. Dalton followed after them givng them a small lecture about store policy.
I looked over at Jodee who was avoiding eye contact.
"I remember you from Dick's." I said once again.
"You do?" She shrugged, "I don't remember you."
I laughed, "Bull shit."
She chuckled and sat on the armchair, "Your sister was the first girl to want men's shoes. So yes I remember you. You were the kid that was checking me out and then blushed when his sister pointed it out."
I grinned and looked up at the ceiling, "True. But you remember me so that says something."
To be honest I was kinda shocked she had remembered me. Only last time I saw her, her name tag read Julie.
"So your real name is Jodee? Not Julie?" I asked.
"My name is Jodee. My coworker from Dick's let me borrow her uniform because I forgot mine that day."
"You said it was a misprint?"
Jodee smiled. There was nothing nice behind it, it was more like a I got away with it smile. "I lied," she said.
"Course you did." I rolled my eyes and layed back. There was something about this girl. She was different. She didn't cling to me, or ask me a thousand questions. Actually she looked completely the opposite. Like she didn't care, which is probably the case senerio.
I didn't know all the time passed by. I was sort of in a haze, just taking a nap. When I was finally able to sit up without having to hold my head, I knew I was getting better. When I checked the clock I saw it was getting late and that Blake and Shawn would need to leave soon.
I looked up only to find I was by myself. I groaned and finally squirmed into a sitting position. I had a slight headache but other than that I was fine.
When I stood up I managed to walk to the door. From there I just had to lean on the wall for a second. I breathed in and out in a steady rhythm. To be honest I have had many concussions, but every time I get a new one, it doesn't matter. It's not like a cold where you get used to it. Each time its a bit different. Either black dots, or butterflies, or just a headache. And right now I just had a headache.
When I walked out the door a wave of Hollister aroma hit me. It almost made me go back in the room because it sure wasn't helping my headache. But the more I walked the better it seemed to be feeling. Like it was fading away.
I walked around looking for my brothers. Dalton was behind the cash register with a customer. He seemed to be the only person I could find so I kept walking. I leaned against a wall after a minute and just scanned through the store. I saw a strawberry blonde person under a cabinet grabbing some sweatshirts. A smile krept on my lips like a lion about to pounce.
I walked towards the person quietly. She kept her head stuck in the cabinet as I moved like a lurking shadow. When I was in reach I poked my fingers in her sides and tazed her. She screamed and pulled her head up only making it come in contact with the wood board.
"Shit!" She whisper-shouted rubbing her head.
I grabbed my side and leaned against the rack of clothes as I laughed. Jodee looked up at me as she rubbed her head. She looked furious but at this point I could have cared less.
"The hell was that for?!" She shouted catching the attention of some customers that were roaming around.
"Now we're even." I said rubbing my forhead.
"Jodee!" A familiar voice shouted. I inwardly groaned and rolled my neck towards the advancing Dalton. "What did I say about cussing?" He whisper-shouted.
Jodee stood up and glared at me never looking at Dalton. Her hand kept rubbing her head over the forming bump. "Not to." She finally answered.
"Put another dollar." Dalton pointed at the desk and Jodee groaned.
"But I need this dollar for coffee break." She whined.
"Jodee..." Dalton said strictly. It seemed like a staring contest. But Dalton won due to the more authority.
Jodee walked over to the desk and put a dollar in a jar that had her name across it. She muttered insults under her breath making sure Dalton couldn't hear them. At this point I was starting to feel guilty. Dalton nodded and apologized to the customers. I pulled out my wallet and took out a ten. "Here," I said handing it to Jodee.
She looked down at it and then up at me. An angry fire was lit across her pupils like a small flicker of candle. "I don't want your pity money." She said hotly.
"It's not pity money," I forced it in her hand, "It's simply your tip for being such a good nurse. Now take it."
She kept looking at me straight in the eye. I met her green eyes with mine. She finally looked down at the money and said something inaudible.
My eyebrows narrowed, "I'm sorry what?"
"I said thank you. You jerk." She turned on her heels and started walking towards the back of the store. She opened the a door that led to who knows where. Before walking inside she stopped and sighed. Then turned around and looked directly at me, "Your friends are waiting for you outside. They brought the car up so you wouldn't have to walk as much."
"My friends?" The only people I came with were my brothers. If that's what she meant then she's just like the rest of the people I see. They don't believe we are brothers due to all the facial differences and everything else.
I remember one time an old couple saw us hanging out and the women whispered to her husband, Are they gay George?
My brothers and I stared at each other and huddled up talking about how gay we probably looked. But then after a while we didn't care. We were brothers and if we knew that, we didn't care what other people thought.
"Yeah," Jodee rolled her eyes, "The tall built blondy with the one that thinks he's the kings fool."
I laughed at the last one. Shawn really did see himself as the king's personal fool. All he needed was a hat with the bells at the end. Then it struck me. That would be an awesome Halloween costume for him. He would love the idea. I'll have to tell him when I get a chance. "Actually their my brothers." I said to Jodee.
She raised an eyebrow, "I don't believe you. But it's none of my business." She walked in the door slamming it shut behind her.
"Damm," I said low under my breath. I shook my head walking towards the entrance. I muttered one more word as I walked outside, "Fiesty."
I was out on the sidewalk looking around for Blake's car. I saw a little girl and her mother walking towards me as they made thier way to a different store. The little girl had small pigtails, red ribbons in each. The mother looked like a happy women. If this were a old movie or TV show, they would look like the perfect happy family. As the two walked by, the corner of my lip curved upwards.
"Mama where now?" The little girl asked.
"How does ice cream sound?" The mother said.
The little girl smiled and nodded her head. Her red ribbon fell out of her pigtail and twirled to the ground. They kept walking by without noticing so I trailed behind and picked it up. I tapped the little girl on the shoulder and got down to be eye level with her. "Hey princess," I said softly. She and her mother turned around to look at me as I held the ribbon in the palm of my hand, letting it face the girl.
The mother smiled down at me, nudging the girl forward, "Did you leave something Lilly?"
I tensed at the name.
That's moms name, I thought to myself.
Little Lilly looked down at her ribbon. Not moving just looking.
I arched my neck so I was looking up at her. I smiled making Little Lilly smile as well. "I saw it fall off your pigtail," I told her as I held it up to the pigtail with no ribbon. I started to tie it and continued smiling down at her. "Lilly is a pretty name. Kind of reminds me of the tiger lily. Do you know what a tiger lily is?" I asked as I finished tying the ribbon.
"No." She said softly a small giggle escaping her lips.
I couldn't help but smile, "A tiger lily is this beautiful flower. It can be orange, or yellow, or red. Like your ribbon."
Little Lilly giggled again and looked up at her mother, "Can I have a tiger lily mama?"
She chuckled and looked down at her daughter, "We'll call daddy and tell him to bring us some while he comes back from work." As Little Lilly giggled uncontrollably I stood up and looked up at her mother. "Your really good with kids." She whispered to me.
I just smiled back, "I just love them."
She nodded and picked up her daughter, "That's a good thing. Thank you..."
"Cole." I answered for her.
The mother nodded her head at me one more time, a smile still on her face. She looked back at Little Lilly, "Say bye to Cole."
Little Lilly waved away, "Bye Cole." She and her mother walked off in a different direction while I just stood there a big smile spread on across my face.
A honk of a car brought me back to the real world. Shawn waved at me from the street, he was in shot gun therefore I was going to get the back. I made my way to the car and scooted into the backseat.
"Are you feeling better?" Blake asked driving off.
"Yeah I feel way better now." I answered. My head wasn't hurting and it seemed like I wasn't in a haze. All good signs that I was getting beter. I think the fresh ari really helped.
"Hey look what we got for you." Shawn said handing me a bag and I raised an eyebrow. I looked inside and smiled.
"United States soccer jersey." I said to myself as I pulled it out, "Wow thanks guys."
They both smiled and high fived each other.
"Glad you like it brother." Blake added.
"Yeah I was broke, so Blake payed." Shawn said.
The good thing about being older is the fact I can afford to get my brothers some nice gifts. And even though we are all different in our own ways we always know one thing. What we each like and that we each do love each other.
I patted Blake's shoulder and kissed his cheek, "Thanks man."
"Ok that is to much love." He said wiping his cheek with the back of his hand.
"What are you talking about?" Shawn asked, "Don't you like love? I mean your about to go make it right?"
I laughed and remembered the Halloween costume idea. Before Blake could answer I cut him off, "Shawn I have the best idea for what you can wear on Halloween!"
"What?" He turned in his seat looking directly at me, "Tell me tell me tell me!"
I took a deep breath, "Drum roll please."
Blake pounded on the steering wheel while Shawn hit his legs and stomped his feet. "Ok," I said causing silence, "You should be a Kings Fool?" My brothers broke in laughter. Their laughing caused me to start laughing nervoulsy. "What?" I asked.
"That's like the best idea ever!" Blake shouted then added, "Only Shawn is everyone's fool."
We both looked at Shawn who had tears in his eyes, "Oh my god yes! I am so doing that!"
The rest of the car ride was fun. We simply talked about school and the people. Then the Halloween party and how our last football game was going to be on Homecoming. The soccer tryouts were held eariler so technically it wasn't our fault we missed football practice. This year we had been thinking about basketball but soccer is going to be throughout the whole year, it's causing problems with our system.
"So who's house?" I asked Blake. Shawn and me already knew he was going to go to some girls house.
"It's just that girl from math class. What's her name?" Blake tapped his fingers against the steering wheel trying to think of the name.
"Wait the red head?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah that one." Blake answered.
"Oh yeah her." Now I knew who he was talking about. Just some girl on the dance team.
About two minutes later Blake pulled up in our driveway. He parked right outside the garage, clicking the opener as the garage door opened slowly and loudly. "See you guys later." He said to us.
"Don't have to much fun," I laughed getting out of the car and taking my new shirt with me.
"Hey Shawn," Blake called as my little brother took a step beside me. Shawn turned to Blake showing he was listening. Blake grinned, "Don't make her to sore."
I covered my mouth to contain a laugh. Shawn flicked Blake off and Blake and I laughed. Blake drove off and his windows rolled down. He turned up the music to high and even from the garage I could feel my chest vibrating.
"He's such a....such a....ughh!" Shawn said stomping into the house. I trailed after him with a smirk.
"Mom we're home!" I shouted while we walked in. Dad came out from the master room and smiled.
"Hey guys did you have fun?" He asked.
I laughed, "Sort of."
The rest of the hour the three of us: Shawn, Dad, and me just talked. Dad told us about being a cop and some of the exciting stories he had, and some of the more depressing stories. Then Shawn and I talked about our football games and how we always played outside when we were kids. After a while mom came out and joined us telling us about being a lawyer. We all shared laughs, or frowns. It was definitely a good time.
Shawn's watch suddenly beeped and he looked at the time his eyes going wide. "Shoot! I'm gonna to be late!"
He took one more grape from the small rack we had out and then rushed upstairs. Mom and dad looked at me and I grinned, "He's going to Em's house for dinner remember?"
They both made O shapes and nodded.
"Actually why don't you two go out for dinner?" I asked.
They both looked unsure but finally mom spoke. "I don't know Cole I mean-"
"Just go. Your feeling better and I'll wait for Tori. Go get dressed and get out. Live while your still young!" The last sentence made mom and dad laugh but they nodded and left to the master room to get changed.
Shawn came back downstairs dressed in the most casual thing I had ever seen. I couldn't help but laugh at it. He had a navy blue button down with some shorts and to top it off....flip flops.
"What?" He asked going to the hallway mirror to fix his hair, "Do I look to undressed?"
"Nah I think you look good." I turned around to laugh silently while he didn't see.
"Liar..." Shawn sighed and slumped down the wall, "What should I wear?"
I chuckled and grabbed his hand taking him back upstairs. Speaking as we walked, "The shirt you can keep. As for pants..."
We reached his room and I went to his closet and picked out some dark jeans. He changed quickly and then spread his arms so I could look at him. "Good. Now for shoes...."
"I don't have dress shoes." He muttered.
"You don't need dress shoes. Just wear...um..." I scanned his shoes and then pulled out some never used black high tops. They came over the ankle and the toes and sides were shinning. "Dude where did you get these?"
"I bought them like a couple months ago. Why?" He asked.
I guess it would be bad to ask if I could have them. They were cool and now I wanted a pair. I tossed the shoes to Shawn, "Wear those. You'll be good."
Shawn smiled, "Thanks Cole your a lifesaver." He took the tags off to the shoes, slipped his feet in and then tied the shoelaces together. I walked with Shawn down the stairs and out to his car. He got into the drivers seat and I handed him a rose I slipped out of mom's vases.
"Don't forget this." I said from the window. Shawn looked at it and smiled.
"Thanks again Cole." I smiled at him as he took the rose. He started the car and I took a few steps back. Before driving off Shawn rolled down the window and looked at me, "You should get a girlfriend Cole. Having sex is fun....but when you really love someone. It's ten times better. Keep that in mind."
My smile faded into a straight line. My little brother drove off and I stood there....confused. Maybe Shawn was right. I've seen the way he's looked at Emily. And for a while it's been nagging me.....what would it feel like to be in love?
I walked back in the house to see mom and dad getting ready to leave. Dad changed into a nice suit and mom was in a blood red dress. She even applied some make up. Dad stuck his arm out for mom to take. She smiled at him and took it lovingly.
Is this love? I thought.
"We'll be back later Cole." Mom said.
I forced a smile, "Ok. I'll wait up for Tori."
"Alright." Dad said as he grabbed his keys, "You two better not burn the house down."
I chuckled, "We won't."
Mom kissed my cheek while dad just smiled. After our goodbyes they headed out. I jumped on the coach flipping through random channels. Already I was bored. Usually I'm never home alone. I'm always with my brothers but now they both have more important things to do. Suzie could have kept me entertained but she was at Mark's house....with Conlan.
As I kept moving from show to show, program to program. I came across a really crappy show about girls hair. They were experimenting some new product on making girls hair thicker. The only thing it caught my attention was the strawberry blonde in one of the chairs. The hair reminded me of Jodee.
Damn was she fiesty.....for some reason.....I liked that.
I ignored it and kept chaninging TV shows. I don't know how much I waited but finally I heard the garage door open. I jumped off the coach.
"Tori!" I screamed knowing she couldn't hear me but finally someone was here. FIANLLY!
