Breaking Point
Tangled Fate (1st book of ROYAL ROMANCE )
The city lights blurred as Veer sped through the empty streets, his grip on the steering wheel so tight his knuckles turned white.
The pain in his chest was unbearable.
She loved someone else.
Not him.
Not even once had she tried to tell him, despite all the times he had asked.
It wasn't just jealousyâit was betrayal.
His heartbeat pounded against his ribs. His vision blurred, but not from exhaustionâfrom the tears that he refused to let fall.
He didn't even know where he was driving. He just wanted to run from this suffocating pain.
But no matter how fast he went, it stayed with him.
It was inside him.
Finally, at some random, deserted road, Veer slammed the brakes.
The car skidded slightly before halting.
His breaths were uneven, his shoulders rising and falling rapidly.
And thenâ
it all crashed down.
Veer buried his face in his hands, and before he could stop himselfâ
he broke.
Tears fell. Silent at first. Then shaking sobs.
His mind, his heart, everything was drowning in her.
Flashbacks hit him like a storm.
That first time she looked at him with annoyance instead of fear.
That first time she smiled at something he said.
That first time her hand brushed against his, and she didn't pull away.
And thenâ
That kiss.
The way her lips trembled against his.
The way she froze in his arms but didn't push him away.
The way she melted, just for a second, before reality hit.
Veer pressed a hand against his chest, as if he could physically hold back the aching emptiness.
"I love her."
The words slipped out, his voice broken.
He laughed bitterly, brushing away his tears.
"I love her more than anything. And she... she doesn't even want me."
His fingers curled into a fist.
"Maybe... maybe this really is just a contract for her."
The realization hit like a punch to the gut.
Maybe he was the only fool who believed she felt something too.
With that thought, his body finally gave in to exhaustion.
Veer leaned back in his seat, his eyes heavy with pain, and before he knew itâ
he fell asleep in the car, under the empty night sky, drowning in heartbreak.
The clock struck 4 AM.
Ridhima sat curled up on the couch, wide awake.
She was waiting for Veer.
But he still hadn't come back.
Her fingers clenched around the edge of her dupatta as her thoughts spiraled.
Why did his question affect her so much?
"Are you still in love with him?"
The way Veer had asked, the anger in his voice, the pain in his eyesâit shattered her.
Why?
Why did seeing him like that make her chest tighten with something she didn't want to name?
Why did the thought of him being hurt feel like a dagger to her own heart?
She closed her eyes, but his voice haunted her.
"But what... you still can't forget about him?"
Ridhima clenched her fists.
"No, Veer... you don't know everything," she whispered to the empty room.
He only knew the first part of her past.
Not the second.
Not the part that had broken her beyond repair.
He had no idea why she built these walls around herself.
And maybe... maybe it was time to tell him.
Maybe it was time to stop running.
With that thought, her eyes finally gave in to exhaustion.
Still waiting for him, Ridhima curled up on the couch and fell asleep, her heart heavy with unspoken words.
At 8 AM, Veer's phone wouldn't stop buzzing.
Call after callâRidhima. His mom. His manager.
His head ached as he finally picked up his mom's call.
Aarti (his mother): "Where are you, Veer? We even called the office, but you're not there! Ridhima is worried about you."
The moment he heard Ridhima's name, something inside him twisted painfully.
Veer (coldly): "Mom, I'm not a five-year-old kid. I have work to do outside the office."
Without another word, he cut the call.
Meanwhile, back at Arora Mansion, Ridhima sat at the breakfast table, silently listening to the conversation between Veer and his mother.
Hearing his voice, his anger, his distanceâit hurt more than she wanted to admit.
But she didn't say a word.
She just listened.
When Aarti cut the call, she turned to Ridhima with a reassuring smile.
Aarti: "Don't worry, beta. He will come home."
Ridhima forced a nod, but inside, her heart felt restless.
Because deep down, she knewâVeer wasn't just avoiding home.
He was avoiding her.
At the office, Ridhima's phone rang again.
Yash Thakur.
Her blood boiled. She picked up the call, already irritated.
Yash (mocking tone): "I can't believe you actually told Veer everything. That's really a surprise for me, babes."
That was it.
Ridhima (furious): "Don't you dare call me that again! This is my last warning, Mr. Yash Thakur. From now on, call me Mrs. Aroraâbecause that's who I am."
Before Yash could say another word, she cut the call.
Just as she turned around, her heart stopped.
Veer was standing right there.
And from the look on his face, he had heard Yash's name.
Before she could say anything, Veer's voice cut through the silence.
Ridhima : "Where were you last night, Veer?"Â "I have to tell you something."
But Veer didn't let her continue.
His expression was unreadable, but his next words felt like daggers to her heart.
Veer (softly, yet sharply): "Please, Ridhima... at least respect our marriage. Even if it's just for four months."
Her throat tightened.
Veer: "If you still love Yash, I won't bother you. I'll prepare the divorce papers. You won't have to stay with meânot even for an hour after these four months."
Ridhima's eyes widened.
Divorce?
She looked at him, feeling something crack inside her.
Ridhima (softly): "Do you really think of me like that, Veer? You don't even know the whole truth, and you're making decisions?"
Veer's jaw clenched.
Veer: "Oh? And which decision are you talking about? The divorce?"
He took a step closer.
Veer: "So... you don't want it?"
Ridhima's lips parted, butâshe had no answer.
She didn't know what she wanted.
And Veer saw it.
The silence between them was suffocating.
Before she could process anything, Veer walked to the control panel and locked the office windows.
And in the next secondâ
His strong hands grabbed her waist, pulling her flush against the wall.
Her breath hitched.
They were too close.
Veer (low voice, full of restrained rage): "At least tell me, Ridhima. Tell me that you love that fucking Yash so that I can stop hoping."
His wordsâhis painâhis frustration... it was all there in his eyes.
His grip on her waist was tight, yet it wasn't forceful. It was as if he was holding onto herâfor the last time.
But Ridhima had no answer.
She couldn't say yes, but she also couldn't say no.
And Veer saw that.
His eyes darkened, but this time, there was no anger.
Just defeat.
His hands slowly dropped from her waist, and he took a step back.
Without another word, he turned and left the office.
And Ridhima didn't stop him.
Because she didn't know what to say.
HOW YOU FEEL FOR RIDHIMA AND VEER....
