"Hey, rona band karo. You know it upsets me if you cry." He handed her another tissue, running a hand through his wet hair, which were sticking on his forehead, the sticky strands falling back over his eyes, the scar on his forehead peeking from the middle.
Abuzar had found her sitting infront of the same cafe, shaking like a leaf as the rain continued to drench her freely. Draping his jacket over her quivering figure, he guided her towards the bench under the shed outside the convenience store.
He was crouching down infront of her, just like the first time they had met. His eyes darted towards her swollen cheek, as his jaw ticked.
"It's going to be okay now. I'm here." He stopped his hand from reaching out to touch her cheek, feeling anger rush through his veins. Who must've hit her? That evil bhootni?
Soon after sometime, she had stopped crying as she narrated the whole scene to him, as he listened in disbelief.
The audacity of that man-
"I'm sorry you had to go through this. But don't you worry or plot something absurd. You know this is our last year and soon after completing your bachelors you can become an independent woman pursuing your dreams and go away from this hell of a place you've been surviving in till now like the strong warrior you are." He tried cheering her up showing a bright overlook of the future, which is always unexpected, as he succeeded in making her feel a positive hope once again.
He was right. She didn't have to nor was going to live there forever. She'll go far away from this place, from these people, who actually never cared for her.
Abuzar came back to her with a cup of warm coffee, as the rain had now long stopped, leaving it's fragrance to fill in the air. Her legs were still shaking, as she hugged his jacket closer, her wet hair strands peeping out from some places near the collar.
"Here. Be careful." He cautiously handed the hot cup to her as her brows furrowed.
"No ice-cream today?" She held the cup peeking her hand out of the jacket.
"Are you in your senses? Thand se kaamp rahi ho, 'no ice-cream today'!" He huffed out, giving her an irked look, copying her words. Yeah, it had become like a tradition for them to eat ice cream whenever they would come here together just like the first time they met here.
Sipping on the warm coffee helped her feel less cold, as she finally felt better again. She looked to the side, where he was sitting silently staring at the dark sky, just wearing his black polo shirt. Wasn't he cold?
Her fixated gaze on him made his eyeballs roll in her direction, as he raised a brow at her. "What?"
"Thank you for always understanding me. You never judged me and accepted me as I am. And your open mindedness and compassionate heart always comforts me." She let her heart speak today, wanting to thank him for always being on her side whenever she needed him.
"Haye, mera compassionate heart kahin bahir na aajae." He placed a hand over his chest, fully looking in her direction now.
"Nai, you've to keep it safe in there." She smiled.
"How're you feeling now?" He asked after a moment of silence.
"I don't know." She sighed, drawing pattern on the cup in her hand.
"You still look like the uni goddess though." He shaped both his hands like a camera, pointing at her face.
"Ahan." She still didn't react, as he backed them away.
"We gotta take a picture today, a memorable rainy day with a warm cup of coffee." He pocketed out his phone, and took a few selcas, making funny faces in a few to make her smile.
"What can I do to make berry feel better?" His eyes roamed on the wet hair strands which were sticking on the side of her face, as he put his phone away, failing in the attempt.
"It's nice to be told you're beautiful or hot or whatever, but I'd love to hear someone say that I make things easier, that they're happy that I exist, they don't know what they'd do without me, I'm strong, that they're of me, that I have something to offer. Compliments don't always have to be about appearance."
Some things which are longed by the heart will always make their way on your tongue at the right moment. Just like Amarra opened up her heart to him who had never failed in helping her to do so.
"Then I wish you could be me for one day then maybe, you could see what I see when I look at you." Abuzar let his urge win, as his fingers ever so lightly brushed against her jaw, freeing the sticky hair strands from there. Amarra froze, slowly turning her head in his direction.
"What do you see?"
"I see the most caring, loving, generous, kind-hearted, selfless, hard-working, funny, talented, smart, amazing, wonderful, kind, protective, loyal and the most incredible girl I know." He said in almost one breath, as if he was rapping.
"I-" She was cut off by his next abrupt move.
"I had more to say but your face distracted my mind." He joked, moving closer to her face, as Amarra felt a weird feeling arise in her chest.
A very loud thump thump.
/â¦ï¸â¦ï¸â¦ï¸/
Surely, Amarra had caught cold the very next day and had to miss uni due to the severe sore throat and flu. She took medicines and hoped Abuzar was okay and did not catch it too because of her.
Berry:
Hope you're okay!
I caught cold.
Hero:
Abhi bhi ice-cream khaani hai? :)
I knew it when I didn't see you at uni today.
Berry:
V funny :/
Hero:
Took medicine?
Berry:
Yep.
Hero:
Is it too bad?
Berry:
No, just the sore throat is killing me.
Hero:
Take care! And drink some kahwa
The best remedy for sore throat!
Berry:
Hmm..k!
Hero:
Your rose shall be wasted today then. Should I just throw it back in the garden.
Abuzar and Amarra had another ritual whenever they would meet everyday at uni. Of course, Amarra was the one who came up with it, that Abuzar should bring a fallen red rose from the rose garden park near their house for her everyday.
Berry:
Zabardast jo tumne aise kiya!
Hero:
You mean Khabardaar*** -_-
Berry:
Yeah same thing!
Gimme two roses tomorrow instead!
We can't break the streak like this!ð¤§
Hero:
Okay okay Miss.
You've to get well soon to receive them.â¨
Amarra's lips broke into a smile at his message as she kept her phone aside, getting cozy inside her warm blanket.
Why does the time crawl like a snail when you're sick and have nothing to do?
It was finally night time, as Amarra thanked the maid as she brought kahwa for her in her room. She supped up a sip as her nose scrunched up due to the sour taste. Just then her phone tinged.
Hero:
How's your gala babe?
She almost choked rereading the last word of his message, her cheeks tinting pink just by the thought of him calling her--
Hero:
Berry**
This stupid auto-correct!ð¤¦ââï¸
Amarra felt more embarrassed thinking of how her imagination created a whole crazy scenario over a damned mistake. What was the job of this auto-correct anyways!?
Berry:
Better:)
Drinking your recommended kahwa rn.
She sent him a picture still feeling giddy with weird emotions whirling in her brain. What was happening to her!?
Hero:
I forgot to send these!ð¤ª
He sent their selcas from the night as she giggled zooming into the photos to get a funnier view of his funny faces. He was such a crackhead sometimes. She stopped staring at one of the pics, where he was staring at her face, while her eyes were kept low on the cup of coffee in her hand. His gaze on her was intent as she felt her cheeks get warmer just by looking at the photo. What was he doing to her!?
Was she developing infatuation with him? She couldn't name the feeling anything more than that because she wasn't ready for anything like that (love). And most of all, she couldn't let anything like that affect their precious friendship.
The next day, Amarra felt somewhat better so she decided to go to uni since staying at home meant getting bored anyways. Staying in just made her feel more sick. She still didn't face her dad after that night by keeping herself locked in the room. So she sneaked out early morning to not be put in any awkward situation. She wasn't ready to talk to him yet.
Standing in the open area near the gates, she waited for Abuzar to appear anytime. Because he could never be on time.
"Where are my red roses today?" Amarra sulked as she saw Abuzar walk in empty-handed.
"Oh, shoot!" He swiftly did a 180Õ turn, covering his mouth and then another one turning back towards her.
"You forgot?" She raised her brows, asking in complete annoyance.
"Nahi, how can I forget about those!" He defended himself, trying to mask away his bafflement for actually forgetting his most important morning task. "Actually the rose garden was in shortage of roses today."
She shook her head in disappointment as he didn't make direct eye contact with her, looking anywhere but her. Jhoota!
"Abu-" The name died down in her throat as she saw her dad entering the gates of her uni behind him.
"Abu what? Did you just refer to me as your dad?" Abuzar dramatically asked, making an annoyed face.
"Dad." She called out when her dad found her standing there, passing her a sad smile.
"Oh God-" Abuzar ruffled his lower hair, still thinking she was actually calling him by the term, as he did another 180Õ turn to almost wobble on his legs at the sight of her real dad infront of him.
"Amarra. Can we have a talk, dear." He spoke, completely ignoring Abuzar's existence as he internally thanked God for keeping him unnoticed while swiftly sliding a few steps away.
"Not right now, da-" She paused, biting on her lip. "I've to attend my class, it's almost started."
"Then I hope we could go out for lunch today, it's been quite a while since we last had a meal together outside. I'll come pick you up after you're done with-"
"I've extra classes today so it won't be possible." She interrupted, trying to remain as unbothered as ever.
"Oh. Then when will you get free? I can come by to pick you up." He still tried, feeling helpless, he just wanted to somehow correct his mistake by having a talk with her.
"You don't have to force yourself to do stuff you never did before. I'm not a kid anymore, I'll come by myself just like usual." Amarra's words were still as stern, she had never talked to her dad like this except for the time she fought with him over his decision for second marriage.
Abuzar wasn't far enough, and he could hear her angry voice as he kept glancing their way. He didn't want to interfere in the private talk, but his ears couldn't help it.
As he saw her dad leaving the gates, he walked towards Amarra, acting oblivious. "Guess what?"
"What?" Amarra snapped, not realizing the harsh tone herself. She wasn't in the mood anymore.
"Haw. Mujh pe kyun ghussa nikaal rahi ho?"Abuzar folded his arms, returning her serious glare to her.
Amarra remained unsmiling as she bit the insides of her cheek comprehending she really did sound rude. "I was jus-"
"Amma." Abuzar's words had her gawk at him with an open mouth.
"What the duck? Just because you thought I called you Abu doesn't mean you start calling me Amma!" She pointed her finger at him, getting more frustrated.
A meek giggle from behind her made her turn her head back, as she found a beautiful lady, probably in her 40s standing there. She was wearing a simple kurta shalwar, her dupatta draped around her head and shoulders, with a black bag hanging on her arm. Abuzar clenched his jaw, to keep his emotions in check.
"Kaisa hai mera beta?" She passed by her to give Abuzar a hug, as Amarra stood there with millions of questions bombarding in her brain.
Was she his mom? Amma, as in real mom?
