The next morning, Ameera woke up at 7. It was her everyday routine. She had quit from work at the start of her 5th month of pregnancy. After everything, she just didn't get back to work.
She heard the shower running which meant that Hashir was showering. Ameera looked out the window. It was still drizzling lightly. Branches of trees and leaves were everywhere. The storm from last night was a pretty big and bad one.
Her thoughts then diverted to the little angel sleeping a few doors down.
Ameera had woken up once in the night to feed Hana. It was also convenient since Hana woke up around 4:50 and that way Ameera could also pray.
Too lost in her thoughts, Ameera didn't notice her husband coming out the bathroom with just a towel on. When she heard footsteps, she turned to look at her husband. Hashir had quite a built. Although his six packs weren't there, he still had the outlines. His arms were super muscly. These days, all he did was go to the gym and workout besides office work.
It helped keep his mind off of things.
Ameera hadn't noticed that Hashir was walking towards her until he stood right in front of her. She removed her eyes from his body and looked up at his face.
It was blank. Like always.
She looked away as her cheeks started heating up. "He totally saw me checking him out," she thought to herself.
She continued looking out the window as Hashir walked closer and pulled her into his chest. Ameera's eyes widened at the action. These last few months, he wouldn't even spare her a glance, and now he's getting intimate?
He rested his head on her shoulder and looked out the window, with her hands around her waist. Ameera's heart was pounding in her chest.
What was he up to?
They were lightly swaying, both lost in their thoughts.
Hashir missed this. He missed his wife. He missed touching. Joking with her. Teasing her. Loving her. A small was plastered on his face.
Until a cry broke out.
As soon as Ameera heard Hana's cry, she felt Hashir stiffen. She felt his jaw clench. She felt his hand tighten on her.
Ameera immediately detached her self from Hashirs arm and rushed out to the room towards Hana whereas Hashir just watched her go.
Breakfast was silent.
The only difference today was the fact that Hana joined them.
Work had been canceled today because of the huge storm last night. There were some minor damages so schools and offices were closed. This meant that Hashir was home.
Ameera quietly ate and watched Hashir from the corner of her eyes. His jaw was clenched and he was glaring at the food in his plate.
The doorbell rang and Hana jumped in Ameera's hands. The little baby was frightened by the sound whereas Ameera tried to stifle her laughter. Hashir stood up to answer the door. While then, Ameera stood up and took Hana upstairs. She got Bertha, a sweet 50 year old lady to look after Hana.
Bertha had been working for Hashir since he moved out the house. She was a sweet 50 year old and always had a smile on her face. She came over to help clean up the house usually when it was necessary.
Ameera walked downstairs. As she headed towards the dining table, she heard a female laughing. With a frown on her face, she walked in and the cause of all her pain. There she was sitting, laughing with Ameera's husband and had her hands all over him.
Rachel.
Rachel was Hashirs P.A. for as long as she could remember. She was a blonde haired blue eyed 24 year old. Ameera had to admit, she was beautiful. She had the perfect body, perfect style, perfect way of talking.
But she had no limits. Ameera, at first, considered her to be a good friend. But after that day, Ameera absolutely loathed her.
"Ameela, are you just going to stand there?" Rachel questioned.
Ameela? Who the hell was that?
"Sorry, Rebecca, I was just surprised to see you here," Ameera gritted back.
"It's actually Rachel," she said, a fake smile plastered on her face, "And I was just going around, making sure all my friends were safe and sound," she replied back.
"Well we're are safe and sound. You can leave now," Ameera bluntly replied.
"Ameera," Hashir hissed. Ameera just rolled her eyes and looked away.
"I apologize for her behavior. She was just kidding," Hashir said, trying to play it of. It amused him to no end that his wife was jealous.
"Yah, definitely kidding," Ameera muttered.
"So, Hashir-" Rachel bagan.
"This is so unprofessional, Raina. Hashir is your boss, therefore you should call him Mr. Hamdani," Ameera said.
"Yes, but Aneera, we are not in the office. And plus, Hashir is my friend," she said.
Ameera continued glaring at her with hate filled eyes.
Hashir stood up and took Rachel to his office to discuss some work related stuff. Ameera watched as he laughed and talked with the blonde.
Ameera walked upstairs towards the room Hana was in. She looked inside to see Hana laying down and playing with the toys around her.
"Thank you, Bertha for looking after her. You can go home now since all the work is finished,"
After Bertha left, Ameera crouched down on the carpeted floor and watched Hana play.
She smiled at the adorable baby in front of her and ran her hand through her hair. "Why does life have to be so difficult?" She questioned the little baby. Hana let out a coo which Ameera laughed at.
For the next hour, Ameera and Hana played together. Ameera had already become so attached to the little girl. It was as if Allah took one precious thing away and gave another precious thing.
Ameera's ring tone broke her out of her thoughts. She checked the phone to see her sister calling. She smiled and answered.
"As-salamu alaykum, Maham Api,"
"Wow, so you remember who I am? I haven't heard from you in almost a month, Ameera!" Maham screeched over the phone. Ameera guiltily looked down at her hands. It was true. She didn't talk to a lot of her relatives or family in these last few months. Even if they invited her to come over, she would decline the offer.
"I know Api," Ameera replied. Maham let out a sigh. Her heart ached for her little sister. No one deserved to go though what Ameera went through. It was tragic.
"Acha, how is Hashir?" Maham tried to steer the conversation.
(Ok)
"Theek hai,"
(He's good)
"Ok, listen, next Saturday, it's Imaans birthday. I don't care what you say but you are coming no matter what, understand?"
Ameera opened her mouth to answers but was cut of by her older sister.
"No Ameera I don't care. Do you know how worried Mama and Baba have been because of you? All they think about is your well being. We haven't seen you in two months! How long is thing going to go on?" Her sister snapped at her. This just made Ameera more guilty. She knew her parents and relatives were worried about her. She had just been too selfish to realize this.
"I'll be there," Ameera softly said over the phone.
After their goodbyes, Ameera sighed and thought over what her sister had said. She looked down to see Hana sleeping with an adorable frown on her face. Ameera smiled at her before picking her up and placing her in the crib.
She went downstairs just in time to see Rachel leaving. Hashir was no where in sight, however.
"Next time, please don't come with out informing us ahead of time," Ameera said with a sickly sweet smile on her face.
Rachel's whole demeanor changed as soon as she saw Ameera. Gone was the sickly sweet smile and instead present was a cold look. Rachel just rolled her eyes at Ameera.
"I noticed the tension between you and Hashir, is everything alright?" Rachel taunted, with a smirk on her face. Ameera's hands clenched and she glared at Rachel.
"Did he believe you, Ameera?" Rachel sneered. When Ameera didn't reply, Rachel's smirk widened.
"Buh bye," Rachel said, the smirk still evident on her as she walked out the door towards her car.
Ameera silently watched as the killer of her child exited her house.
