Flash Marriage He Made My Jaw Drop Thinking about how her mother had threatened suicide before her last blind date, Vivienne grew even more frightened. When she arrived at the hospital, she asked the nurseâs desk where her mother was being kept, and they told her that Mrs. Quinn was on the third floor.
She rushed upstairs, Damien following close behind.
Meanwhile, in her room on the third floor, Mrs. Quinn had just woken up. The doctor was there with the test report. âItâs nothing serious, just hypoglycemia. You need to eat and rest regularly, and maybe even keep some candy on you.â
Mrs. Quinn was doubtful. âAm I really just hypoglycemic?â
A few months ago, sheâd been tested for cancer at the same hospital. Just now, sheâd been unconscious, and sheâd thought it was the cancer taking its toll.
But the doctor sounded certain. âIt really is just hypoglycemia, maâ am. Rest here for a while longer, and weâll discharge you soon.â
âCanât you test me again to make sure itâs not something else?â
âMom!â Vivienne burst into the room, her eyes bloodshot. âMom, are you okay? Why did you faint for no reason? Doctor, whatâs wrong with my mom?â
âYouâre family? Sheâs just hypoglycemic and overworked. Make sure she sleeps and eats on time, but itâs not serious.â
Vivienne was relieved. Sheâd run through every single possibility in her mind on the way here, even if there was only the slightest chance it was possible.
Mrs. Quinn still looked puzzled. âDoctor, I really donât have any other problems? Three months ago, I was tested for cancer at this same hospital.â
Vivienne paled at the mention of cancer and looked at the doctor.
âThe test results say no other symptoms were found. But if youâre not sure, you can have another comprehensive examination done.â
âDo it again,â Vivienne said quickly. It was better to be safe.
âAlright. Youâll have to pay the extra fees for it.â The doctor turned to his assistant. âSchedule another test.â
Damien nodded to Vivienne. âCome with me. Iâll go pay the bill.â
She nodded in agreement, but she was uneasy at her mother being left alone. Usually, if her mother was sick or had a headache, Vivienne would do all of the work herselfâbut this time, she had Damien to help her.
The results came back soon. It had been determined that Mrs. Quinn really was only hypoglycemic and didnât have cancer. The hospital had administered the wrong test, and the results of that had said Mrs.
Quinn had cancer.
When Mrs. Quinn heard the news, she sat stunned for a moment, and then hugged Vivienne and cried.
âIâm so sorry, Vivienne. I thought I was dying, so I made you go on all those dates, and you rushed off and got married.â Still crying, Mrs. Quinn squeezed her daughter tight. âWhy donât you get divorced now, and weâll take our time to find someone who you really like and who really suits you?â
Vivienne looked at Damien awkwardly, standing off to the side.
She had only been married for a week, and her mother was asking her to divorce Damien? Then Damien would have to get married a second time because of herâ¦
Vivienne had no choice but to remind her where she was. âMom, calm down. There are other people here, you know.â
Mrs. Quinn looked up and finally noticed there was someone else standing in the room. âVivienne, who is this handsome man?â
Vivienne forced a smile. âThis is your sonâinâlaw, Damien.â
Mrs. Quinn was so surprised that she stopped crying.
âMom,â Damien said gently.
Mrs. Quinn practically went weak at this, stuttering and shaking and smiling. âYâyouâre Damien! Oh, good, good⦠Youâre so handsome! These dating sites really are reliable sometimes!â
Embarrassed at her motherâs behavior, Vivienne turned away. The atmosphere was odd now.
Damien hid his smile, but he couldnât keep the amused tilt from his brows. Heâd never seen such an interesting motherâdaughter duo before. âHelp Mom clean up, Vivienne. Iâll go pull the car around so we can take her homeâitâs probably more comfortable there than this hospital bed.â
That part, at least, was trueâMrs. Quinn didnât need to be hospitalized. She didnât enjoy being in the hospital, either, and she noticed that Damien seemed busy.
She had been worried that Vivienne had married the wrong man, but this certainly didnât seem too bad.
It all depended on his character. When heâd arrived at the hospital, heâd taken the initiative of paying her medical fees, and communicated with the doctor in detail before the test results had even come out. That made him a good candidate in Mrs. Quinnâs eyes.
