Chapter 53 âDid you hit your head, Zion? Youâre telling me that a land in the sewage district is worth more than ten billion dollars?â Even if they use that land for money laundering, it still couldnât be worth much.
Charlie reached to touch Zionâs forehead, but the latter slapped his hand away. âWe received approval from Seathburn City.â
âApproval?â Charlie scratched his head. What did that have to do with anything?
Maeve hummed. âTo promote a green city, the entire sewage district is funded by Seathburn City. So the district will soon become ecoâfriendly, and I wonât even need to spend a penny.â
Charlie was puzzled. âIs that even possible?â
Maeve continued, âNot only that, based on the area of the land, I will also receive a subsidy of 20 billion dollars.â
âWhat did you say?â Charlie jumped to his feet.
Zion calmly added from the side, âFurthermore, the surrounding land was originally owned by the financial tycoon, Frederick Stephen. Because of the sewage districtâs transformation, Frederick has started a new project to transform the surrounding area into highâend properties and some other facilities.â
Charlie blurted out, âIs he planning to build a city there?â
âMaeve plans to develop a commercial street there,â Zion added.
Maeve quirked a brow at this. âHow did you know?â
Zion didnât answer, but Maeve knew how his brain worked. He must have thought this was the best outcome, and in all honesty, so did she.
Charlie paused. âBut that will cost a lot of money.â
âWith the subsidy, plus Stephenâs plan to start a project there, it will be easy for us to get some investors later. Funding is not an issue.â Maeve had thought this through.
Charlie gave her a thumbs up. âImpressive.â
âThank you.â Maeve smiled.
âBut I still donât understand, the approval just came today. And none of us heard anything about it before. How did you know about Seathburn Cityâs plan?â Charlie looked at Maeve with suspicion.
This wasnât something that could be deduced through observation alone. The higherâups have always been secretive about their plans. And since even he didnât hear any rumors, the plan must be operating on a strict needâtoâknow basis.
Maeve had never been involved in real estate before. She couldnât have possibly predicted this.
Zion also turned to Maeve.
âWell...â Maeve teased, âItâs a secret.â
Charlieâs excitement died off. âBoring, forget it!â
Zion kept his gaze on Maeve. The latter turned around and met his gaze. He seemed to know something.
Maeve quickly withdrew her gaze. Although it was just a brief moment, she felt her heart skip a beat. She must have been overthinking it. Someone like Zion would never be interested in a married woman like her.
Just then, Zion piped up, âWe still have plenty of time. Iâll take you back.â
Maeve glanced at the time. âWhen did you guys get the approval?â
âThis morning.â Charlie asked, âWhy do you ask?â
âIf you saw it, it means others saw it too.â Maeve took out her phone. She had kept it silent throughout the journey. Now that she checked, she saw there were two missed calls from Phillip.
