Chapter 72 Claraâs expression froze when she saw the doubtful look in Tiffanyâs eyes. But then, she quickly put on a pitiful expression.
âTiffany, how could I possibly lie to you? Why did you suddenly ask me that question?â
Realizing that Claraâs eyes were turning red, Tiffany had no choice but to say, âI was just asking. Donât take it to heart.â
When Tiffany saw that Clara was about to cry, she held Claraâs hands and said affectionately, âWe three are best friends. You mustnât lie to us.â
âOf course. I wonât lie to you two.â
Clara nodded obediently.
âCome on, letâs go to class.â
Tiffany pulled Clara along as she headed upstairs. Clara stared at Tiffany, who was walking in front of her. She felt a little more wary now.
Either way, as long as she hadnât graduated, she mustnât let Tiffany and Jenny know that she was lying. If not, her college life would be ruined.
Upstairs, a crowd had gathered at the entrance to Claraâs classroom. Jenny was looking around as well, but because she was quite small, she couldnât even squeeze her way through the crowd.
âWhatâs going on?â
Tiffany asked, stepping forward.
Jenny said in a gossipy tone, âI heard that the Director of the Ministry of Education is here. Everyoneâs just looking on.â
âThe director? Why did the director come to our class?â
Tiffany was puzzled.
But Clara immediately tensed up.
âI heard that theyâve sent someone here to investigate the bulletin board incident yesterday!â
There was an excited tone in Jennyâs voice.
Claraâs face instantly turned pale.
Ad Jenny continued, âThe higherâups must have noticed that that woman has terrible character, and she doesnât deserve to study at our school. So, theyâre here to kick her out of school!â
Tiffany frowned. âBut if thatâs the case, shouldnât the director go to that womanâs class? Why did he come to our class instead?â
When Jenny heard that, she noticed something off as well. âYouâre right. Why did they come to our class? He should have gone to the classroom downstairs instead.â
After a moment of silence, their gazes coincidentally fell upon Clara.
2/2 Fearing that the two might suspect something, Clara hastily said, âCould it be that... we offended Sheldon, so he sent someone to cause trouble for us?â
That wasnât impossible.
Jenny and Tiffany had worried looks in their eyes.
What should they do? They failed to get that woman expelled, and they had gotten themselves into trouble instead!
Tiffany asked, âIs Sheldon so powerful that he could get the director here to twist the truth?â
Clara said, âI heard that Sheldon submitted a blank paper during the exam, but the Hackett family still made use of their connections and got him in without any trouble. Sheldon might be causing trouble for us by making use of the director.â
Jenny was furious when she heard that. âHow despicable! What do we do now?â
Clara immediately said, âLetâs leave before anyone notices us. Itâs better to skip school than to get into trouble here.â
âSure!â
Jenny was the first to agree.
But Tiffany said, âAre you sure thatâs a good idea? We still havenât figured out whatâs going on. Wonât we seem useless if we leave just like that? We didnât do anything wrong, so what is there to be afraid of? With so many people around, they canât possibly distort the truth, can they?â
Jenny wavered a little when she heard Tiffanyâs words.
But Clara was terrified. If she stayed here, it would all be over if the director was truly here to investigate the person behind the bulletin board incident.
âWe canât afford to mess with rich and powerful people. They have many tricks up their sleeves, and might just be able to distort the truth.â
Seeing that the two didnât intend to leave, Clara felt a little frustrated.
What was wrong with them?
âIf you guys arenât leaving, I am!â
