Lucas walks into Dennis's apartment on Saturday with the use of the spare key, Dennis told him to return last time, which he didn't. He saw that Dennis was all dress up and combing his hair and Lucas looked at the clock, mounted on the wall , which it was saying 8:30am in the morning.
" Wow, where are you off to this morning or did you forget we had plans this weekend?" Lucas asked him.
" I'm going out and we didn't make any plan, you made plans without telling me" Dennis replied, " And what may I asked is the plan you made today?" Dennis asked.
" Our club " Chelsea" is having or playing a match today and I just thought since you are aware of the game or match, that you wouldn't have an issue with us watching it together" Lucas told.
"" Like the way you still assume you can keep my key, even though I told you not. That you should return it.I have a better thing plan out today and a date with my very own Chelsea and FYI, remember to return the key this time" Dennis said .
" I will" Lucas replied, " What do you mean you have a date with your very own Chelsea, hope you are not watching the match without me or with someone else" Lucas asked .
"You didn't hear anything. It is nothing you need to know about, because if you do everyone in my family would also know. Sometime I wonder, who you are friends with me or them, especially my mum, Both of you are like five and six!" Dennis complained " And is as if I'm just the friend and they are your best friends" He added.
" Don't be jealous, Of course I am friends with you. It just that I love your family so much and since I'm a boy, out four boys, without a female sibling, I just need extra female attention, which I'm only getting from my mum, so stop being selfish and just learn to share and crop your jealous a little. They are your family and you are lucky to have them, especially to have sister's, two at that" Lucas explained.
" Truly lucky me" Dennis said, " I can't even close my ears from hearing all their female private business, and for goodness sake tell my sisters that I don't want to hear about the boy that they are cruching on or the one who likes them. That's why, my friend I rig the system by getting my own place early " Dennis said as he laughs, " The only Peck is that they treat me like a King" He said.
" Stop complaining, you are surrounded by beautiful women, while me I'm in a planet with only one female and populated by males and the only female is my mum" Lucas told Dennis, "And look at the way you asking for your spare key, as if I don't have my own apartment. If someone heard they would think I'm a squatter or a freeloader, not knowing I do have and own, my own house" Lucas said to Dennis, " Ilis it a crime to want to spend time with your own best friend or are you cheating on our friendships?" He asked playfully.
" Stop being dramatic, I need my privacy too. Would it be wrong of me to want that?" Dennis asked his friend, " What if I'm naked either putting some clothes or relaxing. I don't want you to see what you have no right to see" Dennis told him.
" Grown up, we are both guys what you have, I also have and stop being a prude" Lucas told him, " Or are you still keeping yourself for the right one?, Who to me is taking quit long in coming "Lucas mocked him.
" Oh shut up, I didn't tell such a thing and even if it is true it is none of your business And FYI, I have already found her , I'm just planning on how I will finally get her to the alter, before she escape from my grip or grasp and beyond my reach" Dennis told Lucas.
" So who is she and where did you meet her? And why weren't I aware that you found her? or was I not with you in your wait all this year's for her to come?. Is our friendship of 24years not worth you telling me this important secret?" Lucas asked
" It is not like that. Our friendship is worth it, but I wanted to be also sure if I and her would work out. I didn't tell because you will react like this and I was right. You my friend are so noisy and inquisitive for your own good and for my liking and It is none of your business" Dennis told Lucas.
" As if you were me you wouldn't want to know, the love of your friends life, Your own BFF at that. But don't worry, like what you said I'm too noisy for my own good right?, I have my ways of making you talk and very soon you will start singing like a Canary and I Lucas , will get all the gucey details and all about Future Mrs Dennis Morgan and that's when all the information about her would start coming out like volcanic eruption" Lucas warned.
" And how would you do that ?" Dennis asked.
" Don't worry about that, when it happens you will know" Lucas promised, " So back to my previous question, where are you off to this fine morning and ditching me, your beloved friend, in whom you are well pleased. The place or person better be important, so start talking and don't leave any detail" Lucas told him, " I'm just wondering what or who has the power to make you ditch me or is it Future Mrs . Morgan?" Lucas asked.
" Nan Ya, which if you don't understand means " None of your business'" Dennis replied annoyed.
" Which none of my business are we quarreling. I don't like your tone" Said Lucas seriously, gone was the jesting, joker or joking Lucas., Who laughing and joking awhile ago.
" You can say that since you refuse to drop my key, last time and maybe you wouldn't also drop it this time" Dennis teased him.
" Why not drop it now " Dennis asked.
" I'm not living now" Lucas answered.
" Why?" Dennis asked.
" Well I'm not ready to live quit yet or should I say right now" Lucas replied.
" But what would you be doing?"
" I will just watch the match myself, since you just disappointed me, but remember to buy me something. I can not just come all the way to your house and just go back don't you know fuel is costly" Lucas told him.
" If you say so, but clean up after you live. You care about money, but you don't care about order in arrangement" Dennis murmured.
" Whatever you say, Mr. Neat Freak" Lucas teased him.
" I'm serious, you better clean" Dennis said in a serious manner.
" Look at how you are talking as if you are the one that clean my house for me. I agree I don't normally or should I usually put things back at their right places, but I'm still tidy, who do you want my future wife, to think if she hears that her future hubby is untidy, please stop saying that "Lucas said.
" Well as I can remember it is only both of us, that is here, or have you categories me as a female like my mum and sisters" Dennis asked.
" I don't know, if the shoe fits. You behave womanly, more than a woman, I guess staying with women, except your dad has made you effeminate" Lucas told him playfully.
" Take that back. I'm fully grown, manly, handsome, young man" Dennis praised him self, " If no one tells me so, I know it is true" He added.
" If you say so and if it helps you sleep at night" Lucas said to him, " So like I previously asked, where are you heading to?" He asked.
" Okay, I give up !" Dennis exclaimed, shock at his are persistent. I ready to sing like a Canary and erupt like volcano, like you said" Dennis finally agreed to tell him about his outing.
" Finally you agree. You agreeing to tell me does not hurt you out all" Lucas told mm, " Finally you will save me from my misery" He added.
" So for you information, since you want to know; I am going to ShopRite the with the love of my life" Dennis told him reluctantly, with a smile and blushing.
" Who!?" Lucas exclaimed.
" I said the love of my life or didn't you hear me the first time" Dennis told him not willing to disclose Chelsea's name easily and so early and since it is possible Lucas might remember from last time, the first time he met her. He also does not want it to reach his mother's ears, since him and Chelsea are even at the stage in the relationship that he wanted, which is marriage and they are just starting, as friends. He does not want to jinx of their relationship turning into something great and not because he didn't trust his best friend. Even With Lucas's weakness to Dennis family members especially the females ones, he can be very loyalty and tight lip when and where necessary.
" The love of life, eh I thought I was the love of your life or that your mother is the only woman that has ever loved you or would ever love" Lucas Joked.
" Even in your dreams you can't be the love of my life" Dennis said to him.
" Don't worry I will be the love of a woman's life someday and that day is coming soon" Lucas told, " So this love of your life, do I Know her?, that's new. I thought I knew everyone you knew and everything about you. it Is like you have started keeping things from me" Lucas said to Dennis.
" Yes, it is new and we are getting to know each other. Nothing is official yet. And you can't or need to really know everything about me, you are not my wife and even some wives know everything about their husbands, which in my own opinion is wrong" Dennis told him, " But to let you into a secret, since you are one of my best guy friends...." Dennis said as he was cut short.
" You mean, your best friend. I'm not bad mouthing Olu, but He does not count for the BFF position and can not contest for it. I have been working and advocating for that or this position in your life almost all my life when we met in kindergarten 1 and we were play mate, with your character I'm sure then I was the only one that wanted to be friends with you, even now your social and friendship skill needs work and left for you;â¿ our friendship would have ended back then the first day in kindergarten when we were 3year old,. So I'm surprise you are calling me one of your guy best friend and you just met Olu at the University and FYI I earned that position, because I worked for it," Lucas time him defensively , The love of your life can be your best friend, but you see that guy BFF position, it is mine , 24 years ( a score and four years or two decade and four years) is not a child's play, compare to 10 years ( a decade) of friendship( referring to Dennis and Olu's friendship, when they both met when Dennis was 16years old and just got admission, " And the love of your life can have the female slot and the main position as your wife and first lady, since you have dethroned your mum" Lucas added.
" Okay My one BFF, before you cut me off and gave your long sermon, Is was going to tell that She doesn't know it or believe it yet ,but she is my Mrs right , the one and my future wife" Dennis told his best friend joyfully.
" Wow that's a surprise , although it'sa great surprise. But I didn't realize orknow you where ready to settle down and you call me your BFF, no longer you catogries me with your other friends., which is also a good thing, even though you are just 26 going to 27. But you do have the resources to afford it, but are emotionally prepared for it?" Lucas asked.
" Yes, I am. I have praying and preparing all my life and now the opportunity has come to my door steps, and I wouldn't let it pass me by or let it or she walkaway fro me " Dennis informed him, " I have been waiting my whole life , this might be my only chance at true love and love at first sight" He said to Lucas, " And now you are knowing about it now. Since I met her , it done on me that I need to and I am ready to settle down and just like Adam said in the Garden of Eden when he saw Eve in the Bible, " This the bone of my bone, the flesh of my flesh, and rib and rib" Dennis told him, with his mind made up " And I will say I have really finally met mine" He added.
" Congrats man, I'm so happy for you. Although should have told me and let me know. So who is she ?" Lucas said with so much happiness, because of the joy and happiness he saw on his friends face and hugged him, " So who is she, I mean our wife?" He asked.
" Do You rememb6er the beautiful Lady we met on our way back from dropping off my sister?" Dennis asked.
" Yes, that lady
The feisty and curvy and very beautiful lady" Lucas asked.
" That very one, and keep your admiration, compliments and observation of her physical attributes to yourself or even totally bury, destroy or kill them, because that beautiful, Curvy Feisty young lady is going to be all mine in Holy wedlock and I can feel it in my bones and spirit" Dennis told Lucas.
" Preach brother. But just so you know, I don't have a design on your wife to be or should I say the love of your life and as you believe so shall it be in Jesus name, Amen" Lucas prayed.
" Amen, thanks" Dennis replied.
" But I thought she was rude to you, that day?" Lucas asked.
" Well not anymore, although we are still arguing a little, but I take it playfully argument. And that day, She was just being Feisty. And she has a reason to and if I were her , I would have been, and you know me and how I can get. I test people's patient although not purposely "Dennis admired.
" Wow, match made in heaven" Lucas said.
" But since we start talking we have moved pass our grievances told his friend.
" That's good. So where to?" Lucas asked.
" We are planning to go window shopping....." Dennis was telling Lucas when the cut him off.
" Window shopping for first date?, Who does that" Lucas asked.
" Well, if you had let me, finish what I was saying you will; you would have known that we are not doing only that" Dennis told his friend.
" Okay, sorry for interrupting. The thing is just that I was surprised when you said window shopping, for your first date or first outing with the love of your life" Lucas said, " So what exactly are you people planning to do today ?" He asked.
" Well, the window shopping was my suggestion, but she told me she was also planning on actual shopping and was planning on getting somethings there. But I was thinking,I should I take her to Chicken Republic first , after eating we go straight to ShopRite. What do you think?" Dennis asked.
" That's great ideal, but don't you think that would be a double journey; because you would have to go to from Ugbomro towards Enere Road to warri, then come back to Effurun, which is closer to ShopRite which is located in Effurun and we live in Effurun". Before you would transport back to Effurun round about to get to ShopRite" Lucas told Dennis, " Why don't you fix the trip or outing to Chicken Republic for next time. Like I said before fuel is costly, or are you not talking your car?" He asked.
" Yes, I am. And you are right, but can't we go to ShopRite first, before going to Chicken Republic?" Dennis asked.
" Do you want to go to Chicken Republic that much?" Lucas asked, " You know, there are restaurant and shops you can get food and drinks in the shopping mall" He advised Lucas.
" Well last time I went there, I really liked; the Hamburger I bought there, and I just want to share with her; one of the things I love" Dennis told him.
" Have you asked or told her?" Lucas asked.
" Not yet, I want to make it a surprise" Dennis replied.
" I don't know; she might not like it. You just have to hope she likes the surprise" Lucas told him.
" I hope so" Dennis agreed as he said to himself, " Or we can just use your ideal, by going to ShopRite today and maybe next time, we go to Chicken Republic. I just pray there would be a next time" Dennis said.
" Don't worry there would be, she will totally, fall heads of heels in love with you" Lucas told Dennis
" Thanks. I'm off, lock up and drop my key when you have " He told Lucas as he puts on his Shoes and walks towards the door.
" Okay, boss." Lucas said sarcastically.
" You better. I'm warning you" Dennis said playfully.
" Whatever" Lucas said, " You are taking your car right?" Lucas asked as he switch's on the TV and went straight to the sport station.
" I think I would or wouldn't, because I'm meeting her at the mall" Dennis told Lucas.
" Why ?. Are you not suppose to take her there or give her a lift, since you two are going on a date and going to be in the same place?" Lucas asked surprised.
" Well, I don't know. It was her Ideal. I just thought maybe she does not want to be alone with me, since she is just meeting me and just getting to know me or because of other reasons, I'm not okay with it but what can I do. I want to do everything to please her and make her happpy, since we are just at the infant stage of our relationship or should I say friendship and at this stage anything can happen" Dennis said.
" That's true, but are you okay with that?" Lucas asked.
" No, I'm not , but what can I do; I'm trying to be supportive right now" Dennis told him.
" Even with that, I would advice you to carry it in case. You can just ask her with style, after you two finish everything" Lucas suggested.
" That's true, okay I would" Dennis agreed.
" Good luck on your date" Lucas told .
" Thanks, but don't let hear you call it a date, to her it is a outing between friends and to me it is date" Dennis told him.
" You are such a sly guy , and a little manipulator" Lucas laughed. .
" I'm not a sly guy, I just know what I want and she thinks she knows what she wants, which she doesn't, which I'm hoping to make her aware of what she wants" Dennis said
"Okay, Good luck on your outing, lover boy" Lucas bid him.
" And don't be too comfortable in my house" Dennis warned.
" Okay" Lucas answered, " You can go now, but remember to get me something when coming back. And if I'm not here when you come back, give it to me tomorrow if it is perishable goods , just keep it in your fridge till tomorrow. Since I came to your place today, it is your turn to come to my place tomorrow or if it is not perishable, bring it to work on Monday" Lucas told him.
" Okay sir, is that all?" Dennis asked playfully.
" Yes that's all" Lucas replied with a grin on his face.
" I know you are a boss in the office , but even in my house you want to boss me around, but forgetting I'm an equal partner, at work too" Dennis teased.
" Partner by 45%, which make me a majority share holder by 55%, so your loss. I still remain the boss. So you can go now ,your sleeping beauty awaits you or are you the one asleep?" Lucas joked, " And Imy older than you" He added.
" You are older by just 1 year and that does not count" Dennis complained.
" It does in the human family tree, in the age requirement for being an adult, in the legal right or law for the age to drive and drink, especially my birth certificate says, States and shows I'm older"
" See who is talking, do you even have a birth certificate, you that used age declaration affidavit, I might even be older than you, because I have a birth certificate" Dennis told him.
" I have witnesses in the form of my parents, siblings, family members and family friends" Lucas told him.
" They lied to you" Dennis told him.
" Are you calling my family liers?" Lucas asked pretending to be annoyed.
" of course not" Dennis said astonished at the accusations
" Of course you wouldn't say such a thing, I was just messing with you" Lucas as he laughed, " You better run along, you are keeping my sister-in-law waiting, you don't want her to refuse to be part of our family, like she refused to ride with you to the mall" Lucas.
" You are lucky I'm in hurry, I would have given you a ear full" Dennis told Lucas, " And don't make fun of my love" He added.
" As if you haven't, what have you been doing since? Please start going to where you are suppose to be and sorrow if I made fun of our wife( a popular Nigeria saying by family members, meaning a wife of your relation), and leave us that don't have a love and love of our life, let us the single breath" Lucas said playfully.
" You are just jealous and I will leave you to wallow in your jealousy" Dennis said playfully. And laughs.
" Me jealous, I'm enjoy my single life. I'm single, but not searching and Please start going" Lucas said with a hiss.
" Wow the nerve, driving me out of my own house" Dennis said as he walks out of the door and top a tricycle that will take him to the ShopRite I'm the Delta shopping mall at Effurun round about, Effurun Uvwie, Delta State, Nigeria.
