Chapter 33 The End
Behind The Alpha Book 7 Graham
(Chapter song âWolf Totem' by The Hu)
ADAM I scan the news sites looking for any sign of the demons. My hatred bangs on my chest and it takes everything I have not to unleash hell on these people for allowing another Lefu to step foot on this planet.
When the red head ran in, I barely registered the situation until she started talking with her father. I could hear in her voice that she was beginning to understand him and I couldnât take it.
I stood up and walked to the door. My eyes catch Hunters before I open the door. I see the concern and my dead, icy heart crushes it. I donât care. He doesnât get me. He will never understand. They try but they never do. I learned that centuries ago.
I slip out and walk down the hall. I stuff my hands in my pockets as I get to the stairs to the first floor. The sun beams through the glass ceiling and I squint. My pale skin must look ghostly if I read the faces that watch me carefully, correctly. They, too, will never understand what I am, but they will be thankful for what I am for.
My boots hit the first floor and I stride to the front door.
âAdam!â
My eyes glance to the side as I see my mother come from the dining hall with some of my hive sisters.
I look away and continue outside.
At this point, even my mother canât save me so, thereâs no point in engagement. I need complete focus now that I have my last chance. I need another plan since the Reaper is lost to the other dimension. I donât need distraction.
I slow my pace as I approach my bike. My head rolls back as I eye her. I shake it and sigh. She just wonât take a damn hint.
Her long, white hair holds a thick white braid on the side in the locks of the rest thatâs draped over her shoulder. Leather wraps the end and her leather coat is draped on my bike seat. Her milky skin has a soft pink hue showing the life under her skin, but I can sense the cold in her blood. I can almost smell it. I see her heart beat and my mouth starts to water.
No. Just no.
Her ice blue eyes meet mine and if I was capable of feeling, Iâm sure I would be. Itâs a good thing I canât. Astrid Eriksen is the last distraction I need.
Her fit, leather and cloth covered frame leans on my bike. Her boot is kicked up on the engine and she inspects her nails.
âDonât you have a nymph to kill?â I say with irritation.
She raises an eye to me. âI do, but I canât do it alone.â
I stop, grab my handle bar and side eye her. She looks me over and pushes off the seat. She grabs her jacket and puts it on.
I sling a leg over and start my bike.
âWhere are you going?â She asks.
I give her a once over. âI donât need to tell you.â
âNo, but I was thinking, with the Alliance busy, you could help me with my brother and I could help you with Lefu.â She crosses her arms.
âNo.â I lift the kick stand and right my bike. I turn out of my spot, leaving her behind in my side mirror. I see her cross her arms before I turn down the street and out of her view.
I canât afford to be helping stray shifters. I have my own demons to deal with. I have a hell to deal out and someone like Astrid will only get in the way.
The lonely desert highway is perfect for someone like me. I can tune out the hive and just be in my thoughts. The rumble of my bike between my thighs reminds me that I only need myself. My life is not one to be shared. My mother believed that I will one day, share my journey like she did with my father, but what she doesnât understand is the journey Iâm on, thereâs no coming back from. To bring someone else into it would be foolish and a good way to die.
After a few miles, I glance in my side mirror and see a motorcycle behind me. I see a flash of white hair and my lip snarls.
I pull my bike over with dirt and dust spitting off my rear tire and rising up in the air. The desert sun beats down on me as I watch her enter the cloud and park. She takes off her helmet and dismounts her bike.
I rip the key out with a growl, get off my bike and spin on my toes. I stride to her and meet her half way.
âWhy are you following me?!â I throw a finger at her as I close the gap.
âI want to help.â She answers as she crosses her arms and stands with annoyance on her face. She wipes the sweat of her forehead. Itâs clear the heat is not something sheâs used to.
âI donât need your help.â I glare at her.
She steps up to me. âThere are two Lefus out there now. You canât fight them both. Let me help you.â She looks up into my eyes. Her scent offends my nose.
âI can handle it.â I turn and head back to my bike.
âAdamâ¦Listen to reason.â She pleads to my back.
I spin around and get close to her face. âGO HOME, ASTRID!!â My eyes glow yellow as my lycan surfaces.
She juts back and swallows as she eyes me, cautiously.
I blink and lean back. I push my lycan down and my eyes turn green. My heart beat slows to crawl then stops altogether. I contain my anger and raise my chin. âGo home.â I say, stoically. âI donât need your help and I wonât help you. I donât want to hurt you, but I will if you refuse to listen.â My eyes flash green as my mouth waters for the blood rushing through her veins.
Her mouth goes small and she blinks her large, blue eyes at me. âYou need me.â She whispers.
âI donât need anyone.â I mutter and get on my bike.
As I leave her on the side of the road, I feel my heart pulse. My eyes glow blue and I stare at her reflection disappearing behind me. My emotions rise and I push them down as fast as I can. I force my dead heart to take over. No. I wonât allow feelings in.
I stare into the vast open desert as I travel the lonely desert highway.
âI need no one.â
I lie.
