ACT SIX SCENE THREE
CONFESSION

PERSPECTIVE
LUCA GLANCES AT me with a refined smile as he slipped away from me. "I didn't mean to-" before he concludes his words I stop him by enveloping him into a tight hug. For some reason, I never recognised how valuable Luca is to me, his admirable and thoughtful gesture was just enough to make my heart dance in delight. A dream within a dream, the concept of both of us ever being more than friends seemed like an empty dream.
I felt his body tense. His heart was beating fast while his hand benevolently grazed my back. "I'm confused," he whispers.
"So am I." I breathe out.
It felt like time suspended for a while.
"Sahar," Luca says, his words resembled velvet. "You don't seem to understand, each time you say something or do something - I feel miserable," he mutters, gripping me by the shoulders.
"All I could think about is how much you treat me like a friend, everything seems confusing, you just keep doing things that make me believe that what we have is not just friendship," he states, leaning his back on the large oak tree. "It's stupid to assume you'd think the same as me."
His brown eyes gleam. "Why? Why are you doing this to me? You rejected me once but why does it feel like you're messing with me." his words catch me off guard. All I aspired to do was make him feel more content, to exist without worries instead I made him feel lonelier than ever.
"I'm not sure what I'm doing, all I think about is your happiness," I tell him, glimpsing at his celestial features, he appeared so heavenly but functioned like he was nothing. I hated it, seeing him feel so lonely and dismal made me ache to be there for him more. But each time I supported him; I continued repeating in my mind that it was for our friendship. Forgetting there are limits to friendships and I failed to recognise that.
Luca lowers his gaze. "You did it again,"
"Quit making me feel like this, please." his expression was pleading, his visage melting with discomfort. "I don't want to pretend to ignore everything you say."
"What should I say?"
"Everything you say is meaningful to me," he says, glancing at the soft clouds beyond. "I don't think I could maintain our friendship." his words pierce my soul, the hope I once saw in him was beginning to melt away.
"Please don't do that," I tell him, the atmosphere around us grew rigid. All I could think about was Luca's happiness, him appearing discontented made me feel dreadful.
Luca smiles wistfully. "It's better for me, you want me to be happy right?"
"I do but-" before I could proceed, Luca prevents me.
His eyes glitter under the radiant sun with regard. "So let me be happy."
I watch as he stood up. I didn't know what to tell him. I just wanted him to be here. The idea of losing someone as divine as Luca made my heart feel bitter. I felt nauseous, all I desired was to be his happiness, his eden; someone he could rely on.
It was foolish to assume that I could suffice as a good friend. All the friends I make seem to wander away into oblivion. We start as strangers once again, that was my reality, I wished for a dream within a dream only to get a dream trapped in a nightmare. Luca wanted a friend, not a wingless bird with no purpose.
"I think you and Asher suit each other," Luca says, his gaze melting into mine. Asher and I? That could never happen after what I did to him. In this existence and age, we're nothing but companions. My eyes fall on Luca's sombre expression, it was agitating he thought this way.
"But I don't like him,"
Luca's frown grows deeper as he takes a step forward, he lightly taps my cheeks. "Liar, your face says it all," he studies my face briefly before meeting my eyes. "You both are the same, preferring my happiness over your own." and that's all it took for me to realise that Luca is attached with the same thought in his head. It echoes and echoes allowing no space for arguments.
"You have the wrong idea."
"It's obvious Sahar, from the way you look at him to the way you only concentrate on him. When I was with the both of you guys yesterday, all you could do was admire him - completely neglecting my presence. It took me a while to realise that I'm the only person keeping the both of you guys away from each other." Luca says, handing me the bag containing snacks. "My apologies, I didn't mean to interrupt."
"L-Luca you don't understand," I exclaim, dropping the plastic bag containing the snacks. "I didn't look at you because all I could think of was your mother." my confession causes Luca to go silence, he immediately avoids my gaze.
"Oh," he says, his pitch drops. "It's alright, you can hate me like you hate her. I won't stop you because what happened to your mother was my fault, it was a mistake on my behalf to think that everything would be fine between us regardless of what happened. I'm sorry, I really am Sahar."
"I guess on the bright side you don't have to talk to me ever again, you won't be reminded of your past." Luca says, raising his hand to say goodbye.
"You can't avoid me."
Luca pauses. "And why not?"
"After everything, we have been through, why leave now? Aren't we friends?" I ask him, pulling him to face me. The moment he meets my eyes, he looks away.
"I told you to stop that," he hisses, removing my hold. "Stop saying things like that."
"What should I say then?" I ask again. "Come on Luca, why should we end our friendship over something as small as this?"
Luca sighs. "Do you really want to know why? It's pretty obvious at this point."
"I do."
A moment of silence passes.
"Because I like you," he breathes out, his eyes solemn. "But you, you don't like me."
"You what?" another voice intrudes the conversation, it was Helius.
