Chapter 6 I couldnât tolerate betrayal. After the party, I began making arrangements.
Thanks to that share transfer agreement, I owned a significant portion of Reyes Industries. Iâd never signed the document before, but now I needed to maximize my interests. The irony wasnât lost on me â what once felt like an insult now seemed like providence, making my escape easier.
The share negotiations progressed smoothly. I didnât care who ultimately bought them â whether it bled the Reyes family dry or went to their competitors. I arranged to meet Callum at the family estate to settle everything.
But even for this crucial meeting, he brought Sophie along.
âSophieâs just visiting Grandmother â theyâve always been close. Donât read into it,â Callum explained before I could speak, his guilty eyes betraying him.
I watched silently as they exchanged meaningful glances. Mila kept insisting, âI love you most, Mommy,â before gravitating toward Sophie, turning her back on me.
As I moved to discuss business with Callum upstairs, there was a crash. Sophie had fallen, her hand and leg bleeding from broken glass.
âAunt Sophie!â Mila cried out.
Callum didnât hesitate â he shoved me aside to reach Sophie, scooping her up without a backward glance.
My arm throbbed where it hit the banister. My heart ached worse.
âCallum, where are you going?â
He paused briefly. âSophieâs hurt. Iâm taking her to the hospital.â He added carefully, âAria, you understand we canât let it scar, right?â
Mila chimed in, âDonât be jealous, Mommy. We canât ignore family when theyâre hurt!â
My daughterâs accusation cut deep. I glanced at my swollen wrist â unnoticed, uncared for.

Chapter 6 Sophie draped herself around Callumâs neck, flashing me a triumphant smile. âDonât worry, sister. Itâs just a hospital trip.â
âAria, be reasonable.â Callum snapped as Sophie whimpered. âWhat could possibly happen in public?â
They left, Mila trailing behind without a second thought.
Grandmother Reyes watched it all, finally approaching with her cane. âSophie was always meant to be my grandsonâs wife.
Without a marriage certificate, you canât stop them.â
She headed upstairs, ordering chicken soup for Sophie.
My phone rang â an unknown number, but I knew who it was.
âHave you decided? Youâll find my offer very generous.â
I stared at the empty courtyard. My husband and daughter had rushed to another womanâs aid, the perfect little family.
Iâd tried to maintain dignity by not selling to the Reyesâ biggest rival. But now â with Callumâs betrayal, Milaâs rejection, and Grandmotherâs constant disdain â what was dignity worth?
I took a deep breath and answered: âYes, Iâll sell you the shares.â
