Prophecy

Her Last Hope

LAKE

I lie motionless on the floor. My eyes keep releasing tears without any emotion behind them. Lynne is silent. I’m silent.

Everything is cold. The air is thin, and I feel as if I can barely breathe. I can see a blurry version of Derrick and Jake being held to the floor by Blissful’s magic.

My hands reach weakly for them both. My entire body is exhausted and in pain. My heart is in my throat, ready to come out at my mate’s command.

“Much better, my love.” Lucas hovers over me with amusement. By the smell of it, Morana is right beside him.

“Our little pup will be so delighted to know that you will no longer exist,” Morana laughs, her hand on Lucas’s shoulder.

I glance up to see the two of them embrace and lock lips. My wolf wants so badly to bathe in their blood.

“How could you?” Derrick asks Morana weakly. “Where is Henry?”

“Ohhh…” Morana licks her lips. “You mean you don’t know yet?”

Derrick narrows his eyes. I shut mine in pain for him.

“That brat died the first day I got here.” Morana shrugs. “He wasn’t even yours. I never knew his father. At least with this pup, I’ll be happy with my mate.”

Derrick yells out in anger and pain. I can tell Drax is trying so hard to emerge, but Blissful is too strong for that to happen.

Morana smiles at Lucas, who returns it. I knit my brows together.

“You mean—”

“You really thought that I, the son of an alpha, would really pursue someone like you, Lake?” Lucas laughs. “You really have some kind of ego.”

“The whole mate thing was just a ruse,” Morana scoffs.

“All those visions, nightmares, and attacks from your lover boy Jake was the beautiful craftsmanship of Blissful. It was so easy to disguise Lucas using your own memories and fears against you.”

“Master, I hate to interfere, but the Prophecy is needing completion.” Blissful smiles. “If you are to mark Lake, you need to do it now.”

The moon above us begins to turn bloodred as Lucas bends over me.

“What is this fucking Prophecy?” I growl, annoyed.

“Really?” Morana groans. “You had all this time, and you’re just now asking?”

“Settle down, Morana,” Lucas states. “She has a right to know before she dies, right?”

“Fire—” Derrick tries to speak but isn’t able to finish his words.

“This Prophecy gives me control of everything, Lake.” Lucas brushes my hair aside. “When you abandoned your duties as an Alignment, the Moon Goddess abandoned you.”

“She was to enter your body tonight and finally make her wish come true,” Morana adds.

“The Moon Goddess uses Alignments to walk the earth in search of her mother. If that person is marked as she enters the body, the one who marks her turns into a god themselves.”

“The Prophecy is centuries old,” Blissful states. “There will be one who the moon will embody forever and give its goddess eternal salvation.”

“I’m sure you heard that Celestial’s sob story.” Lucas rolls his eyes and removes the gauze from my shoulder.

“The Fates took her daughter in place of her as the Moon Goddess. Luna was the baby’s name.

“Your body was the perfect vessel for her to take over. Your wolf is centuries old, and your soul is basically barren from all the pain you’ve been through.”

“I’m not an Alignment anymore.” I grit my teeth. “What does this have to do with anything?”

“That’s where you’re right.” Lucas smiles.

“You’re not an Alignment anymore, but you are on Luna’s hit list. She promised me and Morana a place among the gods if I marked you instead of your destined one.”

“How is that—”

“You’ll die because your body is so exhausted from the ritual Blissful did, idiot,” Morana scoffs.

“You won’t survive the mating. Hence, Lucas won’t feel the rage of losing you, and we’ll be free to mark and mate when we join the heavens.”

Lucas growls and hovers over my shoulder. The wound caused from his teeth is still raw, so it’s perfect for him.

Just as he moves in, my body releases from Blissful’s restraint. Lucas is sent flying backward with Morana.

“Didn’t I tell you guys to be careful?” I look up and see Lucy standing in front of me. With her is a tall floating figure with glowing blue eyes.

“Lucy…” I smile faintly.

“I’m sorry we’re late.”

Before I know it, Derrick has me in his arms. His internal bleeding seems to have stopped.

“Coal, how did you get down here?” Derrick chuckles. “Gravity finally got to you?”

I see Lucy’s hand tightly wrapped around Coal’s. ~My mate is one of the Fates.~

~

“Badass,” I murmur.

“How dare you—” Lucas’s words are stopped in their tracks. Coal simply has his hand up, so I guess he’s pulling a trick.

“I don’t care what Luna told you, Lucas,” Coal states. “She’s no longer in control of the moon or wolves. I suggest you close your mouth before you get into more trouble.”

“Lake…” Derrick looks at me worriedly. Jake stands over us, surveying the scene.

My eyes are getting heavy. “I’m okay, guys. I’m just sleepy.”

I smile. “I want answers after this.”

Before anything else can happen, my body starts to convulse. Bones snap, muscles tear, and fur emerges from my skin.

Lynne is up for action. And she’s not leaving until Morana’s blood paints her fur.
