Chapter 84

Prisoners

Her Last Hope

Lake

“We need to get a plan B rolling,” Lucy says for the fortieth time. I roll my eyes as she’s actively ignoring Sylas when he tries to speak his mind.

“Lucy, I have one in mind,” he’s finally able to speak when Coal puts his hands around his mate’s mouth.

“Go ahead, Sylas,” Coal smiles.

“Thank you,” Sylas nods and continues, “I’m thinking that we play this little game of Evin’s.”

I narrow my eyes, “Play this game?”

“We get captured,” Sylas states, “Once inside, we can subdue him and easily get Derrick out. No harm done to any of us.”

“And how do you propose we do that?” Lucy pulls Coal’s hands off of her face and breathes deeply, “So uncool, Coal.”

“Anytime, Poppet.”

Sylas chuckles at the two wolves, “You two will be our captors.”

“Are you sure about this?” I ask as Lucy pulls a loose, but tight tied rope around my wrists.

“This knot is easy to get out of,” Lucy rolls her eyes and twists the rope counterclockwise so the knot is facing the ground. I yelp in surprise.

“Whoops.”

~Bitch.~

“Evin doesn’t know these two, Kjarni,” Sylas comes over and checks my wrists from a now apparent rope burn that is forming, “It’s going to be easy for them to do this.”

“What if he sees through this plan?” I ask, kind of anxious as Coal does the same to Sylas’s wrists, “We don’t - “

“We kill him and ask questions later,” Lucy says flatly, “I told you, my brother is getting out of that place one way or another.”

“And if we kill their Alpha, that entire pack will be on our asses before we ~could~ ask questions later.” My lips are a thin line as I talk, “We need to be level headed about this.”

“You’ve been without your wolf for way too long, Hybrid,” Lucy wipes her hands on her shirt, “Your wolf would do the same as I intend to do.”

“I guess it’s a good thing she’s quiet,” I growl, “or else we’d all be dead.”

“Oh, so now you’re more for your Vampyre side?” Lucy scoffs, “Don’t forget where you came from, sweetie. When we met, you were just as ‘wild’ as I am.”

“We should really get going,” Coal says abruptly.

“No kidding,” Lucy growls.

The trail gets thicker with brush and rocks the deeper we walk into the forest. I try to catch my balance but with my hands being bound like this, it’s fairly difficult.

If I’m being honest, this situation reminds me of when I met Derrick. Yes, he did have me tied up in the most ~Fifty Shades of Grey~ way possible, and at the moment I wanted nothing more than to rip his head off, but it all seems like a different lifetime. It’s almost like now I can only reminisce on the memories than feel anything towards it.

“Hold it!” A deep voice calls out.

In a flash, we’re surrounded by multiple wolves and guards. The wolves are foaming at the mouths and have milky white eyes. As if they’re blind.

~So these are Ferals.

~

“Who are you?” A bulky male asks. All human guards have large guns pointed at every one of our vital points. I know that from the lasers coming from their scopes.

“I am Coal and this is my mate, Lucy.” Coal announces, “We have your alpha’s granddaughter and her disgusting captor in custody.”

Sylas was sure to let Coal and Lucy know how this pack works. No females speak unless their male or the alpha permits it to be so. Coal might have just saved Lucy from being shot.

The bulky male pulls my hair back and bares my throat to him. He orders someone to hold the poster up to my face for comparison.

“It’s her!” He exclaims, “Come this way.”

The male roughly lets me go. I hold back a growl as Sylas gently catches me from falling to the ground.

“Kjarni…” He whispers as we begin to walk, “After this is over, I have to return my report to the Queen… I was wondering if you’d fancy traveling with me? It would be a great opportunity for you to learn more about your Vampyre side. I could teach you more than I ever could in this world.”

I almost stop in my tracks. He’s leaving? He wants me to go back with him? Would Derrick go along with it? Would ~I~ go along with it?

I try not to let my emotions show, “Sylas, this is not the time to discuss that.”

Sylas is taken aback by my reply but nods quietly.

I feel guilt rush through me as the guards guide us through a side entrance and down a narrow corridor. Coal holds Lucy closely by her hand. Sylas tracks closely behind me.

"So the long lost granddaughter returns!" Evin bellows as we enter a large office-looking room, "Looking even healthier than the last time we met as well!"

"Alpha, these are the two who successfully apprehended the fugitives."

~Fugitives? Really?

~

"Ah! Coal and his mate… Lucy… right?"

I can feel the irritation Lucy feels as her eye twitches slightly.

~Please for the love of everything holy, Coal save the conversation.

~

"Yes, that's her name" Coal states, "We've brought your granddaughter back home with this filthy Vampyre as the flyers instructed."

"I see that." Evin eyes Sylas up and down, "You've seen better days, huh Sylas?"

Sylas remains silent but I can see his jaw clenching.

"Now, for your reward - "

"Uh, if I may…" Coal interrupts, Evin raises an eyebrow as if it was an insult, "Alpha, I apologize for interrupting you, but… We have no need for money. I've heard wonderful things about the project you've been working on, and I wanted to see if I could give you a hand."

“My ~project ~isn’t for the faint of heart, my dear boy,” Evin smirks. “I can’t allow you to see it, I’m sorry.”

“But I heard of the great strength it can give a male,” Coal argues. “Rumors—I feel guilt rush through me as the guards take us through a side entrance of the facility and down a narrow hallway. Coal holds Lucy closely by her hand. Sylas tracks closely behind me.”

“So the lost granddaughter returns!” Evin’s voice booms as we enter a large office-looking room. “Looking healthier than she did the last time I saw her, as well!”

“Alpha, these are the two who successfully apprehended the two fugitives.”

~Fugitives? Really?~

“Ah. Coal and his mate… Lucy… right?” have spread about the one who has held onto his humanity for longer than any others. Can’t I just speak to him?”

“My… special prize… is of no concern to you,” Evin looks at Lucy, who is as red as a tomato.

“What’s the matter, female?” he asks with a childish voice. “Talk of my scary Feral, 247, giving you a fright?”

Something snaps in Lucy when she hears my grandfather refer to Derrick as a lowly number.

“His name is Derrick, you bastard!”

Lucy shifts swiftly and lunges for Evin’s head.
