Chapter 19: Episode 19 Conflicted

Pieces of My Universe 🧩💗Words: 10246

Meanwhile outside as Jay is bringing the cooler out back, he bumps into Janet in the driveway smoking a butt.

"What's up Janet? I'm so glad you came! Remember that Nina chick from earlier? Well Hannah invited her over here to hang out. She didn't even discuss it with Filmore first, Hannah is getting awfully ballsey lately. Maybe you can keep an eye on her while you're here. You know Hannah, when she's had a few to many." Realizing in this moment when Janet and I are alone, my heart skips a beat. She always takes my breath away! It's not like she is all dolled up or anything, just her usual ripped baggy jeans, tee shirt and a flannel with her Doc Martens what she calls her shit kicking boots.

"I'll keep an eye on Hannah, if you promise to keep an eye on me! Really though that Nina chick rubs me the wrong way. Jay, we should talk later. I have something I need to talk to you about, but not right now. I'm going to go get my drink on and catch up with Hannah, so I can curb my social anxiety for the night." My face feels hot, I hope he doesn't notice. I'm sure he can't tell considering it's dark out here. With just the streetlights and the dim front porch light.

I need to get up enough courage tonight and just rip the band aid off and ask jay out! I can't wait any longer, or one of these girls here is going to beat me to the punch.

"Wait a second, here take these we got them for you and Hannah, knowing how much you two like your 40's. You're not going to have to catch up with her yet, she has only had one drink so far. She's just burnt. Hey Janet, I always keep my eye on you, I got you, ok?" Opening the cooler, I grab the two 40's and hand them over to Janet, then I close the lid. Pulling Janet close to me I wrap my arms around her waist, looking into her eyes, so she could feel my intentions behind my words.

I couldn't help myself, the feeling of Jay's touch sent shivers through my body. While his eyes gave away a silent secret from his heart. I clasp my hands around the back of his neck. Pulling him to my lips as I kiss him like I had never kissed anyone before. His body starts communicating back to mine as his hands caress the backside of my body.

"Get a room, and not mine!" Tom yells. Coming out the front door, catching us in the act.

"Jay let me go from his embrace, allowing him to turn around and face Tom."

"Alright, I'm out it's all you buddy, good luck! Do you mind bringing the cooler with you?" Tom knew what I was referring to. My hat is officially out of the ring with Nina. After a kiss like that, I am all in with Janet no doubt about it! That's it we have crossed the friendship boundary and there is no going back now.

"No problem, that was fast, it was inevitable though. Now I really need to get myself a girlfriend, you're all coupling up on me now!" Picking up the cooler, I lugged it to the backyard where everyone was awaiting the beers arrival.

Nothing like the big red cooler to bring everyone's attention to me. Having the annoying party goers crowding around me hooting and hollering. Giving me pats on the back as I pass each one of them a beverage. There is only one person I really want to spend some time with. Scanning the yard for Nina's whereabouts. There she is sitting on the porch steps with Hannah. They look like they are getting along as far as I can tell, they are both smiling anyway.

"Nina let's put Calvin on the side burner for a minute! Before you knew I was his girlfriend and I knew you were interested in him, we seem to have hit it off, don't you think? It was like you saw past the physical me and connected with the real me.

Did you sense it? I felt like a magnetic force was pairing us together, for reasons that we have no clue about. Do you know what I mean?" Expressing my true feelings, hoping Nina can hear and feel what I am saying.

Sitting with my knees angled toward hers, aligning our body language to mirror each other. I wanted to show genuine interest, doing my best to help Nina feel at ease with me.

Before Nina could answer me, we were interrupted by the sound of the sliding glass doors. We both turn around to see who it is. Of course it's Calvin, he has such terrible timing. The moment I put him on the back burner, he goes and throws himself straight into the flames of the front burner!

"Hey ladies, how's everyone doing?" Trying to cut through the tension that lingers around the three of us when we are together.

"They're better now that I am here with beer, right ladies?" Saved by Tom, he hands each of the girls a beer and then tosses me one.

"Thanks for the beer, Tom! You sure do have a lot of friends here, it's over whelming." I am so glad Tom showed up, seeing Calvin makes it hard to have a real talk with Hannah. I don't know if I should admit to her that I felt a connection right away also. Maybe not like she describes it, but it was there.

I can't help how I feel. I am captivated by her boyfriend; I just want to know what he is like, what he feels like. Having these thoughts about him makes me feel like a villain hanging out with Hannah. What Hannah doesn't know is Calvin has girls lining up, just waiting for them to break up.

"Yeah, it can be but just know I'm here if you get overwhelmed Nina. We can go inside and chill, if you want, whenever, alright?" Hope I didn't come off too eager to get her alone and scare her off.

"Maybe in a little bit, I'll let you know, thanks!" You never know, after a few beers I might test out the waters with Tom. I'll see if I can get a reaction out of Calvin.

Oh my god, here comes Jay and Janet holding hands as they approach us. The glow around them hints that something has happened between them, I must find out. Standing up Janet hands me a forty. Giving her a big hug, as us girls always do when we greet our girl-friends. Or if you're like me I hug both the girls and the guys when I greet them. While Janet hugs me back, she whispers in my ear. We need to talk like right now!

"Alright my friends I'll be right back I'm going to catch up with Janet for a few and work on this forty. Hey Nina, you want to join?" I could tell by the look on Janet's face she didn't want Nina to tag along. Intuitively girls know when another girl is shunning them. Nina is feeling that from Janet right now.

It doesn't help that Janet's body language makes it extremely clear that she wanted nothing to do with Nina. I'm going to have to talk to Janet about trying to be a little friendlier when Nina is around.

"No, that's ok Hannah, I'm fine right where I am! Go catch up with your friend and we can talk later." What is she crazy, trying to get her friend to like me when clearly, she doesn't want to! Plus, why would I want to go hang out with them!

This gives me the perfect opportunity to talk to Calvin alone. Scratch that idea I guess I will have to sit back and wait. Calvin, Jay and Tom are being morons shot gunning beers to get them drunk even faster. I'll give Calvin a few minutes and then he should be buzzed enough to talk alone with me.

I watch Hannah disappear with Janet as they shut the garage door behind them, I'm guessing they will be busy talking in the garage for a while. I'm guessing it's about Janet and Jay, I know because this is what girls do. Now's my chance. As I see, Tom and Jay grab their skateboards and head to the ramps. Leaving Calvin and I sitting on the porch alone.

"Calvin, why did you give me such a dirty look earlier? What did I do, except show you I was interested in you. Remember this is before Hannah confirmed to me just a few minutes ago, that she was your girlfriend!" I lied. I knew the other night after Calvin high tailed it home.

He got nervous when he saw Hannah and I talking and he didn't want to get caught for having me there that night. Poor Calvin is in the dark, he has no clue that Hannah and I have been plotting behind his back. It would work if only both of us could trust each other. I don't blame Hannah though; I feel this pull towards Calvin and a yearning to take him from her.

Calvin pulls his hat just above his eyes then turns to face me, so no one can read his expression but me. He gives me an intense look and I can see in his eyes, he feels conflicted. I sat right next to him so that other people around wouldn't hear our conversation.

"Well, you caught me, Hannah is my girlfriend, but you must have figured that out when we were making out upstairs when you arrived. So, I guess from here on out we can just be friends?" I put my hand out as a gesture for us to shake on it. What Nina does next floors me, she whispers in my ear, only if it's with benefits, then she traced my earlobe with the tip of her tongue. Nina smiles at me over her shoulder as she heads toward the sliding glass doors, then she slips inside the house.

Does she expect me to follow her? I have become aroused by her gesture, calm down Calvin. Hannah is 500 feet away and could be back any minute. Highly doubt it, be real Calvin, those two can talk for hours, but then again, she knows Nina is here. Yeah but, Tom is busy, and no one is in the house. Stop it Calvin it's the buzz talking, yeah, but you and Hannah aren't serious remember? You both said that you two would keep it light and fun! Sex is off the table with Hannah! And you told her that you didn't have to have sex with her, but you never promised that you wouldn't with anyone else right?

Will Calvin talk himself right into Nina's trap tonight? Find out on the next episode!
