Chapter 855: Chapter 857

Christine finally let out a sigh of relief as she stepped outside the large estate gates.

She wiped the cold sweat from her brow.

Quickly, she made her way to the main road.

She had heard stories about the Dailey family's background, but seeing it firsthand was a whole different level of shock.

Now, she couldn't help but feel that ending the relationship was the right decision.

She was grateful it ended quickly, too.

If she had continued dating Dailey, the Clarkson family surely would have been the death of her.

A sudden honk startled Christine.

When she saw Lucius in the driver's seat, her racing heart began to calm.

"Are you here on business?"

"No, I’m here to pick you up."

Christine got into the passenger seat, buckled her seatbelt, and asked, "Did Mr. Ford send you?"

Lucius nodded. "Ms. Jackson, it's best if you don't stay at your place for a while. Pack your things; I’ll take you to a temporary stay at Elmwood Villas."

Christine recalled the scene at the Clarkson family’s estate and asked, "To protect me from the Clarkson family?"

"Yes, while they may want to cause trouble, they’ll be more hesitant on Greg’s turf."

"Even though Mr. Clarkson himself is hard to deter, he should be too busy to bother you for now."

Christine still felt uneasy about Elmwood Villas.

As long as Dailey didn't change his mind, the Clarkson family wouldn't let her off easily.

Lucius noticed the somber look on Christine's face from the corner of his eye and reassured her, "Ms. Jackson, I’ll be stationed at Elmwood Villas as well, so you can relax."

Christine wasn’t entirely comforted, but she didn’t know how to express her concerns to Lucius, so she simply nodded.

At home, she packed her things quickly and headed to Elmwood Villas.

"The room is ready for you."

Lucius handed her his phone number, "Call or text me if you need anything."

Christine nodded.

After Lucius left and she closed the door, a video call from Jane came through.

"Jane."

"Have you made it to Elmwood Villas?"

Lying on the bed, Christine propped her phone against the headboard and nodded.

Jane noticed her friend’s troubled expression. "Were you scared?"

Christine nodded, "Yeah."

Dailey would have his ways of handling the Clarkson family situation.

Jane chuckled. "You’re not mad at me for talking to Merritt, are you?"

"Not at all."

Christine replied, "Even if you hadn’t, I would have. I can’t let my issues affect his life."

"Helena was already ill, and my situation gave her quite a scare."

Jane added, "I left some money for them."

Christine laughed softly, "You know me too well."

The two friends fell silent, just looking at each other.

After a while, Christine spoke up, "Jane, I want to—"

Jane interrupted her, "Don’t tell me. Just do what you need to do."

Christine understood Jane’s intent.

If she left Vista Town, Dailey would first turn to Jane for answers.

If she didn’t tell Jane her plans, Dailey wouldn’t trace her through that connection.

"Everything will settle down soon."

Jane nodded, "Stay safe."

Christine smiled, "I will."
