Dailey and Christine's relationship was kept under wraps. It was no surprise that the employees at the corporation were unaware.
Without offering a response, Dailey took the phone from the reception desk. Serena stood beside him, silent, but their behavior was as good as a confirmation to onlookers. Someone even offered their congratulations.
Dailey paid no mind. He didnât head upstairs; instead, he turned and left the building. This time, he didnât even ride with Serena. The scent in her car was overwhelming, making him feel dizzy.
Serena trailed him into a nearby café. He didnât go directly to Christineâs place, but Serena knew it was just a diversion. She wasnât worried, though.
After all, the Clarkson family would never approve of him being with Christine.
She figured she'd have some time to enjoy his company.
âMr. Clarkson, are you really not considering my proposal?â she asked.
âHonestly, you might not find anyone else as accommodating as I am.â
âMarrying me would also be a great way to protect her. Our combined strength would deter any enemies.â
Dailey was nearly thirty, not a naïve child. Who was she kidding, thinking she could win him over?
Dailey remained silent. After a moment, Serena pressed on.
âDid you know she left Vista Town?â
A flicker of something crossed Daileyâs eyes, but he still didnât speak. Serena noticed this slight change and smirked.
He was only pretending not to care.
âThe Clarkson family knows where she is. She canât hide from them, and you wonât be able to find her on your own. But I can arrange a meeting between you two.â
âI hope Mr. Clarkson will show some sincerity in return.â
Daileyâs expression was indifferent. âSincerity? Marrying you?â
Serena coaxed, âIsnât a win-win situation desirable?â
âIf you want to marry her in the future, we can divorce.â
âOnce you gain control of the Clarkson family, they wonât be able to touch you.â
âLinden doesnât just answer to Mr. Clarkson. Your family has that unwritten rule, right? The leaderâs orders must be followed.â
âYouâve done your homework,â Dailey said, stirring his coffee. âToo bad, you canât fool me.â
Serenaâs face changed. âWhat do you mean?â
âExactly what it sounds like.â
Dailey sipped his coffee.
âYou think my proposal is just bait, and once weâre married, Iâll show my true colors?â Serena asked.
Dailey didnât respond, which was response enough.
âBut youâre overthinking it. I donât need to be with someone who doesnât love me. I have money, looks, powerâwhat donât I have?â
Dailey chuckled, though more in derision than amusement.
âYes, Miss Sinclair, you are indeed captivating. Otherwise, why would so many men overseas willingly be led on, thinking itâs their fault when theyâre betrayed?â
Serena was taken aback by his laugh, momentarily hopeful that her ploy had worked and he was interested. But it was mockery, not interest.
Serena had never been so blatantly mocked before.
âThe Clarkson family knows exactly where she is.â
