He didn't even flinch.
"If hitting me will make you feel better, go ahead. Just leave me breathing."
"So when someone bullies you, I can step in."
Christine snorted, "No one's bullying me. It's just you, always picking on me."
"That, I admit."
He looked at her intently. "I can't live without you."
Christine scoffed, "Oh, you can't live without me, so you just bully me?"
"How can anything in bed be called bullying?"
Ugh, enough.
Christine had no interest in discussing such intimate topics with him.
"Let go, I need to freshen up."
Dailey released her, and she gave him a kick for good measure.
Despite this, Dailey seemed in high spirits.
Once she was dressed and ready, they headed out for breakfast. As Dailey began describing Cliffside Town, Christine grew increasingly annoyed.
"You seem to know an awful lot about Cliffside Town. Did you plan this all along, playing the pitiful act last night?"
Dailey wrapped an arm around her. "Last night, whether it was an enemy or a friend, any woman would have complicated things if she stayed over."
"You could have gone to the hospital," Christine fumed. "Surely your friends could have taken you there."
"If I went to the hospital, my enemies would know something was up. What then?"
"Then you could just die," Christine retorted, storming ahead.
She didnât watch where she was going and was yanked back firmly into Daileyâs protective embrace.
Christine tried to push him away but found herself held tightly.
She looked up to confront him, meeting his deep gaze.
"Christine, as long as you're alive, I won't let myself die. I promise to keep you safe."
"But if you..."
He paused for a moment before continuing, "Letâs not speak of bad omens. I proposed in front of God; He will watch over us."
Speaking of proposals, Christine waved her hand in front of him. "How do I get this ring off?"
"Itâs cramping my style."
Dailey clasped her hand, gently rubbing the ring with his thumb.
"Forget it. Any of your admirers I see, Iâll chase away."
She was led, somewhat unwillingly, into a charming, century-old diner.
The place boasted all the traditional Cliffside Town delicacies.
Christine, feeling hungry, was immediately drawn in by the aroma.
"I want some soup dumplings and steamed buns."
"And a bowl of hot and sour soup."
Dailey ordered the same.
They sat by the window, with a view of the river.
Dailey poured her a cup of hot tea.
In every way, he made sure she was comfortable.
She was ready to move on.
Who would have thought they'd meet again in Cliffside Town, and end up tangled in bed?
But even when her resolve wavered, she knew she had to stick to her decision to break up.
The consequences of staying entangled were too predictable.
"What's with the long face? Thinking about us not being together again?" Dailey teased.

ï¤Chapter 890 "Is that so? But last night..." Dailey sat closer, his voice low and teasing.
Christine choked on her water. Dailey quickly handed her a napkin.
After dabbing the spill, she shot him a glare.
Did he really think it was okay to talk about such things in public?
"I didn't say it out loud. It was just between us," he smirked.
