Chapter 24: Bonded

On Sunday I was typing away on my laptop in Maddox’ home going through real estate in Rivellin City. I really wanted to get that place for myself. Living in Maddox’ home, even after a year, didn’t really feel right and the appeal of staying on campus during the weekends wasn’t right for me either. I really wanted an apartment of my own and with the heavily charged amounts Maddox kept on dropping onto my account each month I had more than enough for a small condo in the city.

Jax strolled in, his blonde mane of hair loose and wild. Kind of greasy too. He needed a trim soon.

‘What, no books today freckles? Where is that fight gone?’

I ignored him but he sat down next to me anyway.

‘What do you think about this one?’ I shoved my laptop his way and showed him my number one find.

‘Cosy, but you really don’t need to move Lux. You are one of us now.’

I got the laptop back and opened my second option. ‘I know, but I need to feel a sense of normalcy. I still feel like I shouldn’t be here Jax.’ He ignored me and glanced at the second one. ‘That’s more you.’

‘What is that supposed to mean?’

‘It’s closer to the centre, you can have more things to do there.’

He was right.

‘Well…. If you put it like that.’

My Telvice ringed. It was Oak. I picked up on the second ring.

‘Hi baby, what are you doing today?’ His voice sounded like he was driving somewhere and that he was calling from the helicar.

‘Just researching some properties in Rivellin city as I told you yesterday.’

Oak stayed quiet for a second too long. ‘Ash and I have some apartments there, if you want we can arrange one for you.’

Another one that didn’t really catch my drift. All of my millionaire boyfriends couldn’t possibly ever understand.

‘Oak, I appreciate your help but I want to do this by myself.’

He honked and cursed like a sailor and I chuckled. He was such an aggressive driver I couldn’t even contain my grin anymore.

‘Don’t kill anyone. That would be bad for the Council.’ I joked.

‘Very funny.’ He sighed. ‘I’m on my way back from my parents. They asked when they were going to see you again. I said next week. Is that okay?’

Besides rich he was also bossy and I needed to contain that energy, because so was I and if he didn’t know by now that I don’t take orders from anyone…

‘Well, next Sunday I was supposed to join Olive and Bronn at their birthday get together but I suppose I could have dinner before the event.’

‘Great!’ he hesitated. ‘Sky and… Ash will be there as well.’

Well that’s a small detail I should have known, but I couldn’t avoid him forever.

‘Yeah well, I’m going to work things out with him eventually. Being bonded to the asshole for life and all that jazz.’

He laughed. ‘Yeah, and being bonded to his twin brother and best friending his baby sister, that kinda needs to happen.’
