Keira hadnât known the value of the jade ring before.
Fearing that Poppy might throw it away or sell it after discovering it, she had always hidden it secretly.
It was only when she took it out this time that she realized the jade ring, which had comforted her as achild, seemed to be of considerable value.
Keira, after all, had little contact with such items, so
she didnât know their value very well and wanted Lewis
to have a look for her.
But just as she lifted the jade ring, the piercing sound of a heartbeat monitor came from the hospitalroom!
Lewis stood up abruptly and rushed into the room.
There was no need for him to call for help, as the doctors and nurses had already arrived and wereonce again trying to revive Madeleine!
Lewis looked on anxiouslyâ¦
Keira was still holding the jade ring in her hand, watching Lewis quietly for a long time, until sheultimately stood up and walked out.
It was really awkward for her to stay here given her
status.
But she didnât go far. She just stayed outside the hospital, wandering around aimlessly.
Somehow, she found herself in front of a courier
service collection point.
Keira paused slightly.
She looked down at the jade ring in her hand again and then stepped into the shop.
The courier station happened to be a company under her name. The courier recognized her andimmediately exclaimed in surprise, âBoss, what brings you here?â
Over the years, Keira seldom managed these repair and courier companies, but she remembered allthe old employees.
Hearing this, she said, âIâd like to send a package.â
Keira took out the jade ring, had the courier give her a box, and after wrapping it with multiple layers, she thought for a moment, âDo you have paper and a pen?â
âYes.â
The courier turned around and brought her paper and
a pen.
Keira then wrote a short note.
âDear Big Brother,
âI hope this letter doesnât disturb you. I donât know if you still remember me, nor do I know if you havebeen looking for me over the years.
âIâm writing this letter to tell you that you donât need to look for me anymore.
âThe promises of childhood need not be kept in mind; Iâm now married to a loving husband and living asmooth life, so thereâs no need to worry.
âThis jade ring seems extraordinary and must be a very important item to you, so Iâm returning it toyou.â
Keira was writing this letter because of Lewis.
By putting herself in someone elseâs shoes, if that âbig brotherâ was like Lewis and had someone heliked now,
would he also be struggling with his feelings as Lewis
did?
She took the initiative to write a letter to inform him
of her current situation also looking to put an end to
that connection.
But after writing the letter, she suddenly felt a bit reluctant to let go.
Every time Poppy beat her as a child, making her feel like she couldnât survive, she would think of theâbig brotherâ who had promised to come for herâ¦
After some thought, Keira added a few more lines to
the letter.
âBy the way, I had no name when I was little, but now I do. My name is Keira, and my phone number is555⦠If you come to Oceanion, Iâll buy you lunch.â
Having added these lines, she put the letter and the well-packaged jade ring into a box, cushioned itwith foam, and then handed it to the courier.
The courier took it and asked, âBoss, where is this being sent to?â
Keira then smiled. âNo. 76 Glow Road, Glow Village,
Cloud Town.â
As she said the address, she again felt she might be
overthinking things.
Perhaps that jade ring wasnât worth much money?
After all, a No. 76 house in a village wouldnât be the home of a wealthy family, right?
The courier then asked, âWhatâs the recipientâs name?â
Keira thought for a moment.
Back then, that boy didnât tell her his name, only that he was a member of that family, and he was thefifth among his siblings.
What was his last name?
He seemed to have mentioned it, but Keira couldnât
remember at the moment.
Frowning, she suddenly recalled that the boy had once said, âMy Grandpaâs brother told me Iâm toostubborn,
so he nicknamed me Stubborn Five.â
Keira then said, âMake it âStubborn Fiveâ.â
Yet, the courierâs expression didnât change at all.
Keira asked, âIsnât that name strange?â
The courier chuckled. âThatâs still normal. You havenât been delivering couriers these years, so youdonât know how bizarre the names people come up with for themselves when they shop online! Onetime, there
â
was someone named âMy Dadâ. When you call them, you have to ask, âHello, may I speak to My Dad?âThis courier job even demotes me by a generation. Who do you complain to about that?â
Keira stifled a laugh, then after some thought, she spoke again. âHow about this? You personally makea trip to deliver the package for me. The jade ring is fragile, so be careful.â
Glow Village seemed so far away when she was a child, but in truth, itâs only a five or six-hour driveaway.
The value of the jade ring was unclear; it felt more reassuring to send someone in person.
The courier said, âAlright! Iâll head over now and make sure that it reaches the recipient!â
âMuch appreciated.â
After seeing the courier drive off, Keira didnât return to the hospital; instead, she simply sent a messageto Lewis and went back to the Horton residence.
The moment she entered, she saw Mr. Horton saying farewell to old Mrs. Horton.
Mr. Hortonâs face was tinged with reluctance.
237 Return it to Him
âSister-in-law, you must take good care of yourself. Iâm still waiting for you to come home for the NewYearâs ancestral worship!â
Old Mrs. Horton nodded. âSure, no problem!â
After that, she saw Keira and couldnât help but ask, âWhereâs that brat? Didnât he say he would come tosee off his second granduncle today?â
Keira smiled upon hearing this. âPerhaps thereâs some urgent matterâ¦â
Î
Old Mrs. Horton snorted. âWhat urgent matter could be more important than his second granduncle?!â
Mr. Horton, however, laughed, âSister-in-law, donât say that! Lewis is now in charge of the entire HortonGroup, so heâs a very busy man! The kid is dutiful, so he definitely didnât mean any disrespect; it must bsome important matter thatâs delayed him. Besides why are you so formal with me? We are family. If yomiss me, just drive over with a step on the gas pedal..
After saying that, he got into his car.
Keira helped old Mrs. Horton to move a couple of steps forward.
Old Mrs. Horton waved her hand. âDrive carefully.
Thereâs no need to rushâ¦â
âUnderstood.â
After that, Mr. Horton turned to Nathan and Oliver, his expression becoming serious. âYou guys makesure to behave, understand?â
Nathan pursed his lips and didnât speak.
Oliver said with a smile, âGot it, second granduncle. Donât worry.â
Only then did Mr. Horton look off into the distance again, sighing with helpless resignation.
In truth, he had wanted to give Lewis a couple more words of advice, given that he had watched overhim for several years when he was younger, and they had a
bond.
Concerning the old ladyâs illness, he was initially misled by Oliver into misunderstanding the situationwith Lewis and his wife.
He wondered if that brat was angry with him over this, which was why he deliberately didnât come tosee him
off.
.
At that thought, Mr. Horton couldnât help but grumble
âThat Stubborn Five!â
