Keira couldnât help but touch her forehead upon seeing the situation.
She had no choice but to follow Mary and Ellis to seek out the specialist who was treating Ellisâscondition.
Ellis said, âDoctor, I want to do DNA verification with the child in her womb!â
The specialist picked up Maryâs test results and, upon seeing that the so-called child was only threeweeks in size, his mouth twitched, âMr. Ellis, it might not be possible at the moment.â
Ellis was taken aback. âWhat do you mean ânot
possibleâ?â
The expert explained. âRight now itâs just an embryo, and itâs impossible to extract. Only after threemonths can we perform amniocentesis to extract the childâs DNA and compare it with yours. Of course, there is another way right nowâ¦â
âWhat way?â
The expert coughed. âThat would be an abortion,
where we keep the cells for comparison with yours, but certainly, the child wouldnât survive.â
Ellis paused for a moment.
Just as he was about to say something, he heard Mary speak, âI want this child.â
After the morningâs twists and turns, which continued as she entered the CT room, Mary had alreadymade up her mind to keep the child.
How could she possibly not want it just to prove something to Ellis?
Ellis was still hesitating. If Mary was willing to have the surgery, then maybe this child could indeed behis, now that she said thisâ¦
Ellis snorted. âYou want to drag this out for three months? What, do you want to take advantage of meand the Olsen family again for your gain?â
Mary clenched her fists and looked at him. âEllis, no matter what, the truth will be clear in threemonths.â
With that, she turned around, grabbed Keiraâs wrist, and said, âLetâs go!â
Keira gave Ellis a glare and followed Mary out of the
office.
Maryâs eyes were already red as they went straight to the parking lot and got into the car.
Lewis was waiting for them in the driverâs seat. He raised an eyebrow upon seeing this but, being aman of few words, he didnât ask anything and just started the
car.
âKeera, please take me home.â
Mary looked out of the window with a desolate expression on her face.
She felt that her years of unrequited love had led to such hurt, and it made her a little sad.
Now, she just wanted to go back to her room and
away.
Keira nodded and set up the GPS for Lewis.
Then she took Maryâs hand and, finding words of comfort difficult, could only say, âMary, in threemonths, weâll bring out the DNA proof and smack him
in the face!â
Mary let out a low chuckle and didnât speak, her eyes carrying a sense of self-mockery.
Actually, now that she had calmed down, she felt she couldnât blame Ellis entirely for thisâ¦
Indeed, after years of living in destitution and striving to maintain the pride she had since childhood, making sure her parents could live with more dignity, she climbed up the ranks with all her might.
She had secured many partnerships for Davis Corporation, often negotiated over the dinner table.
Her reputation outside was never good.
That was why she was misunderstood as a gold-digger and someone who would deliberately provokeothers⦠Even Ellis would say she wanted to use him to get something from the Davis familyâ¦
The car soon arrived at the Davis family home.
Mary didnât say much. She got out of the car and instructed Lewis to drive away, facing Keiraâsconcerned gaze with just a shake of her head.
Keira didnât say more, and after they left, Mary entered
the house.
As soon as she stepped in, she saw her parents sitting in the living room, laughing happily. When theysaw
Mary, her father stood up right away. âMary, youâve really done us proud this time! Your uncle justapologized to your mother and me, saying theyâve wronged us over these yearsâ¦â
Mary smiled at him.
Her father continued. âBut your uncle said he sent you a message, and you didnât reply?â
Mary was taken aback.
Her father went on. âMary, what your uncle says makes sense. Youâre so beautiful. I donât know why Mr.Ellis hasnât taken a shine to you, but if you can make Lewis fall for you, then youâll be the family headâswife on day! Your uncle said that then, you could have your grandparents buried together!â
Hearing this, Mary looked at her grandmother, who also smiled upon hearing this.
But Mary just felt cold inside.
After the division of their family, their treatment had deteriorated, and Maryâs parents had alwayspushed her to work hard, to make something of herself⦠At first, she was told to behave well when shewent on a blind date with Ellis, and now they were agreeing with
her uncle, telling her to seduce Lewis.
Even her parents and grandmother thought she should use her face for something, and indeed, overthe years, they had made her do a few thingsâ¦
So, what right did she have to blame Ellis for looking down on herâ¦
Mary suddenly let out a snort of laughter.
She looked at her father and said, âDad, even if I âm just a tool for an arranged marriage, shouldnât youat least leave me some dignity?â
Her father was startled.
Mary then slowly said, âAs for Lewis, I wonât go.â
Her voice was resolute as she went straight into the
bedroom.
Before, she lived for her family.
From today onward, she would live for herself and her
child!
Ellis also returned to the Olsen family.
His fono una grim and the aggistant following him
didnât even dare to breathe too loudly, yet he sensed that his boss was inexplicably angry.
In all these years, there had been no shortage of women who deliberately provoked him; why had henever seen his boss this angry before?
Miss Mary Davis must be different to his boss, right?
With this thought, the two entered the room and saw that Christina, who was already married off, hadreturned home. At the moment, she was complaining to Ellisâ parents, âIâve never seen someone sobarbaric. I only said a few words about her child, and she slapped me right across the face!â
Mr. Olsen furrowed his brows upon hearing this, âDoesnât she know who you are? How dare she hit y
like that!â
Christina responded, âYes, I specifically made my identity known, thinking that no one would daredisrespect the Olsen family and hoped to downplay this incident. Who knew that after hearing it, shebecame even more arrogant!â
Maryâs mother then said, âDid you find out which family sheâs from?â
Ellis, listening to their conversation, found it all annoying.
He couldnât even bother to talk more to them and was about to go upstairs when he heard Christinasaying, âI found out. Itâs Mary from the Davis family, her attitude was so arrogantâ¦ânovelbin
Maryâs mother was surprised. âI remember that girl. Sheâs particularly pretty. She has a child?â
Ellis paused mid-step.
Then heard Christina continue, âThe child isnât hers; itâs her close friendâs. Her friendâs name is Keera. Iinquired about her, and it seems she has business dealings with our Olsen familyâ¦â
Mr. Olsen immediately slapped the table in anger, sneering. âThen whatâs the point of continuing thecooperation? Cancel it! Youâre the daughter of the Olsen family, and she dares to treat you like that?!â
Maryâs mother also frowned. âOne should never hit the face when striking blows, and why should adispute between children escalate to one involving adults? What kind of background does this Keerahave that
she thinks she can behave like that in Clance? Iâll have
11.22
your older brother drive her out!â
Mr. Olsen nodded, âEven though you are not our biological child, we have no daughters in our family, and you were raised in luxury as our child, how can you be treated like this?!â
As he finished speaking, he just happened to see Ellis and immediately waved his hand, calling out,âEllis, come and defend your sister!â
Ellis came downstairs with a cold face, letting out a sneer. âThat, Iâm afraid, is not possible.â
Maryâs father was startled. âWhy?â
