Keira and Lewis were seated in the reception room, surveying their surroundings. âI didnât expectRebeccaâs home to have such décor. Itâs quite cozy.
Lewis frowned, looking displeased. âDonât you feel even a hint of danger?â
Keira, puzzled, looked at him, âWhat danger?â
Lewis coughed, then lowered his voice.â Rebecca covets a friendâs husband so openly. You shouldkeep your distance.â
Keira didnât know what to say.novelbin
She smiled faintly. âThere must be some misunderstandingâ
Lewis sighed and said nothing.
Over the years, whether during school or after returning to the country, many women had thrownthemselves at him relentlessly, otherwise he wouldnât have mistaken Keira, who came to him with aprintout of the marriage certificate, as trying to hit on him.
But he could never have imagined that the obedient girl who always listened to Keira, filled withadmiration in her eyes, would also take a fancy to him.
If Rebecca were only Frankieâs sister, he certainly wouldnât be amicable.
But since Rebecca was also Keiraâs friend and bestie, with whom she had a good relationship inOceanion, he couldnât be too harsh.
After all, a bestieâs pillow talk could be deadly!
Lewis coughed, and then messed up his neatly arranged hair a bit, and adjusted his sports jacket.
Seeing him like this, Keira asked, âWhat are you doing?â
âMaking myself look uglier.â
Keira twitched the corner of her mouth, grabbing his hand. âStop messing around. No matter what youdo, you canât hide your handsome features.â
At her words, Lewis indeed stopped his actions, but his ears gradually turned red.
Keira noticed he blushed easily, so she deliberately stared at him.
Sure enough, it wasnât long before he cleared his throat to remind her. âHold back a bit. Wait until weârehome tonight.
Keira laughed.
At that moment, there were sounds from the doorway, and then Frankie walked in with Rebecca.
Frankie had lost some weight since their first meeting. As soon as he entered, his gaze fell on Keiraâsface, a shadow flickering in his eyes.
Lewis immediately stepped forward, blocking his
gaze.
Frankie looked at Lewis with a frown.
Keira didnât notice the subtle actions between the two men, instead, she turned to look at Rebecca, only to see Rebecca lifting her chin slightly, lacking the gentleness and timidity she had shown inOceanion, her manner now carrying a hint of haughtiness.
As soon as she entered, she stared blatantly at Keira, her eyes filled with hostility.
What was going on
While Keira was contemplating, Rebecca approached her and extended her hand. âHello, IâmRebecca.â
As Keira reached out her hand, about to touch hers, Rebecca withdrew her hand, feigning nonchalanceas she touched her hair, then stared at Keira, âKeera, right? You really resemble a friend of mine.â
Keira didnât know what to say.
Rebecca continued to stare at her. âDo you want to know who my friend is? Oddly enough, itâs Mr.Hortonâs deceased wife⦠Did you know about this?â
Confused, Keira nodded.
Seeing this, Rebecca immediately furrowed her brows, her voice becoming somewhat shrill, âYouknew?â
Keira nodded again.
Rebecca immediately clenched her fists, then let out a scoff. âYouâre happy to be someoneâsreplacement?â
This time, Keira sensed something was wrong, and before she could speak, Lewis stepped in front ofher, giving Rebecca a warning look. âMiss Allen, please mind your manners.â
âAre you defending her already?â
Rebeccaâs attitude was harsh. She stepped forward, staring intently at Lewis. âMr. Horton, since youârehere, itâs time I made some things clear.â
Her eyes were bright as she spoke. âActually, I fancied you when I met Miss Keira. I just restrainedmyself because of her presence. Now that sheâs gone, how about our families join in marriage?â
Lewis was perplexed.
His expression turned dark as he stared at Rebecca. He then looked back at Keira with a look thatsaid, âSee, this is your good friend!â
Keira hadnât expected Rebecca to say such a thing and immediately said, âMiss Allen, you canât talknonsense like that.
But Rebecca looked straight at her. âIâm not talking nonsense. I want him. If you want to cooperate withour family, give him to me, or forget the cooperation!â
With that, she walked out.
Rebecca could leave, but Frankie didnât want to fall out with Lewis. Their families still had to work
together, so he stayed, looking helplessly at Lewis. âMr. Horton, you heard what my sister said, right?
Lewis suppressed the anger and stared at him. âDo you always indulge her like this?â
Frankie shrugged. âThereâs no helping it. Sheâs the only daughter of my parents, and sheâs my onlysister who has gone through such an ordeal. From now on, she can only be coddled.â
Lewis didnât know what to say.
He looked helplessly at Keira.
But Keira stepped forward and addressed Frankie. âMr. Allen, if the cooperation between our families isso frivolous, then letâs call it off. However, Miss Allen doesnât seem quite right. Maybe you should takeher to a psychiatrist?â
Frankle was startled.
Ever since Rebecca was brought home, she had become increasingly paranoid.
Her demands were now even more outrageous.
The family had thought it was due to experiencing a failed marriage and Keiraâs death, so they hadnâtthought much about it.
But Keira had spotted the problem at a glance.
Was Rebecca having mental issues?
Frankie pondered for a moment, then nodded. âThank you for the reminder, Miss South. Iâll take her tosee a doctor.â
Keira turned and left with Lewis.
Frankie watched them leave and noticed that Lewis, when with Keera, still walked half a step behindher, just as he did in Oceanion when with Keira.
That was something that had shocked Frankie before.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
It
t clearly showed how much Lewis valued Keira.
And now, he was doing the same with Keera.
Recalling the tone and manner in which Keera had just spoken to him⦠It was very similar to Keiraâs.quite unlike the submissive Keera they had investigated.
This made him start to doubt again, could it beâ¦
A suspicion suddenly took root in Frankieâs heart, and he found it hard to believe his own speculation,so he followed them out.
Just as he stepped outside, he saw Keera and Lewis walking toward the parking lot, about to get into acar when Frankie hurriedly took a few steps forward and called out, âMiss Olsen!â
Keira subconsciously halted a little.
