Youâll have to follow the laws, keep being a good person, and constantly deal with people criticizing you the moment you break any rule. But being the Demon King is different. As the Demon King, you can do whatever you want. The strong lead, and the demons followâthatâs how the demon race lives."
"Iâm not interested in becoming the Demon King."
"Come on, donât say that. Even if you save the world with humans, what do you really get? A few years of gratitude, maybe some money, and thatâs it. As the Demon King, you can have whatever you want until you die. Did you ever meet the goddess directly? Did she ever promise to make you the king of humans if you killed the Demon King?"
The demon lord seemed eager to convince me, going on with a long explanation. Either she really wanted me on her side, or she just wasnât the type to listen to others.
Then again, why would a demon god need to listen to anyone else? People would probably just follow orders without any need for explanations.
"You donât need to be tied down by rules. You are the rule. Who would dare defy what the Demon King decides to do?"
"But youâre here. You seem like a superior version of the Demon King. Didnât you say you created the demon sword?"
"Itâs okay. I donât care what you do. I wonât interfere. Iâve never interfered before. Remember Elissier? She waged war for centuries under the pretext of purging weaker demons, and I didnât stop her. You really can do whatever you want, even if it means wiping out the entire demon race. As long as you stay as the Demon King."
"So, what exactly do you want?"
I couldnât understand it.
If she didnât care about the other demons, even to the point of allowing me to kill them all, why did she create the demon sword? Why did she want me to be the Demon King?@@novelbin@@
"Not much, really. If I had to pick, Iâd say I just want the demons to survive. Theyâre closer to me than the humans allied with the goddess. But even that doesnât matter much. As long as youâre on my side and alive, the rest can die."
