I strained to turn my head in the direction of the voice, but there was nothing to see. Then the same voice spoke again.
"There is no need to look⦠I am speaking to you through thoughtâ¦."
The voice was that of a womanâcold, emotionless, and almost androgynous. Following her advice, I kept silent and focused on catching my breath.
After a brief pause, the voice seemed to gather itself and continued.
"I have no intention of hiding my identity, so I will speak plainly and quickly. I am the Demon God."
The voice was much clearer this time, more refined. The long pauses between sentences had disappeared.
"Though my physical body is dead, I managed to hide a fragment of my consciousness before my complete annihilation. It seems I was not detected."
"The Demon God⦠How do I know you're not just another one of Aria's lies?"@@novelbin@@
"Believe what you want. Iâll keep talking regardless. Iâve already been destroyed by that woman. What more do I have to lose?"
Given my situation, I found this reasoning plausible enough to accept. At first, I thought this might be another one of Ariaâs traps, but really, what could be worse than becoming a living battery, drained of my power for a thousand years?
"Alright, keep talking."
