I stared at the bag in my hands then towards Kate.

"It's that bad?" she asked sitting up

I didn't answer

"What is this a silent movie?" she asked snapping her fingers.

Finally, I started to speak "Uh no sorry I just...this caught me off guard. Umm, so we don't have to go grocery shopping. Matthew got us what we need."

"You mean like Matthew, Mark, Luke, John gospel Matthew?" she said confusion written all over her face.

"You know what I mean, " I replied shutting the door behind me.

"You are talking about Matt like my Matt right?" she asked as if I were speaking a different language.

" Oui, c'est la même personne avec qui vous discutiez l'autre jour," I said speaking French

"Wow that's crazy," she said. "I mean don't get me wrong Matt is a nice and sweet man but groceries...wow." She was about to say something else but stopped herself.

"Wait you could understand what I was saying?"

"Of course not I just know you by now." She said while snatching the bag out of my hands.

"You have some itchy fingers because you are always snatching something."

"Just be glad you don't have weave or I'd snatch that too."

"Woahhhh tone it down please the aggressiveness is high today," I said while grabbing a few hot fires for myself.

After sorting out what could stay on the table and what could fit in the fridge we both sat down on the couch and enjoyed the silence.

"Hey, can I ask you a question?" Kate asked

"Aren't you asking one right now?" I replied.

She was quiet for a moment before saying "I like you. You're so nice but can be a tiny bit mean at times. Well...not mean just a smart reaction. I still have a question to ask though."

"And I may have an answer," I said smiling her way. "Ask away"

"What is the hardest part about being a Christian?"

I paused thinking about the question. "The hardest part about being a Christian is being a Christian. Literally."

"What?"

"Being a Christian in this world is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. I'm constantly surrounded by evil. Whether it be actions or just things in general. I have to be the odd one out." I said

"Hmmm then what's the best thing about being a Christian?"

"Jesus. I mean knowing that Jesus died on the cross when we didn't deserve it and that he wants a relationship with us...his children is the best thing.  He's by far the best relationship too. Only God can fill that gap in our hearts and until we seek and find him until we have a personal relationship with him nothing will ever be able to fill that gap."

"Does he fill your gap?" She asked

"He does."

"How do you know?"

"I used to want a lot of stuff. I used to say if I could just only have this I would be happy. I used to envy people. Now I don't. I realized that I don't need anyone or anything but God. I realized that even though I want and I mean really want something if He says no I'll be okay because His ways are best."

"Interesting," she said while putting another fry in her mouth.

"I'm not the best Christian. I curse a lot and I am a trouble maker but I'm gonna try my best to get closer to him."

"Hey, I'm not perfect. I can be really impatient and mumble sometimes when I'm supposed to do something." I said trying to reassure her.

"Okay but that's little though, " she said while finishing up the little that's left in the bag.

"No sin is greater than any sin. Sin is sin and all have fallen short...including me."

"How do I even talk to him?" she asked

"Just talk. He's omniscient He sees everything and hears too. We can talk through prayer, just talk, the Bible, lots of ways. I think prayer may be my favorite though." I said.

"I'm gonna try that."

"You should."

"Thanks, Rachel, "

"Thank you, " I said pausing before I continued "For being comfortable with me enough to talk about it. If you need me I'm here."

"I know...I love you."

"I love you too."
