Chapter 24: Chapter Twenty-Three

I'd Wait For You (Christian romance)Words: 4373

"My baby!" I heard my mom yell as she ran across the yard to hug me.

"Mommy!" I cried out running to meet her halfway.

"Me..." my dad said standing by the door.

"Face it Marcus nobody wants you anymore, "

"Mom I just got here, "

"Sorry---ooooooo we got a white boy, " my mom said.

Matt laughed awkwardly.

" So you just go stand there and not give me a hug?"

Matt set the luggage on the grass and pulled my mom in for a hug.

"Dang Rach I see why you kept calling him a brick wall, " my mom said letting his chest.

Before I could say anything dad cut in "Matt you just got here you can't have my daughter and my wife. Stop being selfish, "

"Daddy, " I said running to him.

"Hey pumpkin, " he said picking me up into a hug.

"Where my sister, " I asked looking around.

"Sarah!" my mom yelled.

"Coming coming!" she yelled running down the stairs.

"Hey sissy, " I said opening my arms out for a hug.

She ran into it squeezing me before whispering in my ear "You know I always couldn't wait until you were out of the house. Worst wish ever, "

"Alright alright the sun is out and we got a white boy on our lawn let's get him inside before he's red, " my mom said.

I could see how modern Christians would say my mom wasn't supposed to be associated with the religion by the way she talked but she really wasn't that bad. She may come off a certain type of way but it was how she was raised. Bouncing back and forth from foster homes in a ghetto area until grandma and grandpa adopted her. The hood was her home. They raised her and because of them and now she the world differently. The news would always twist words and don't get me wrong gangs are not good but but even in all their messed up ways they never forgot the importance of family. So yes my mom isn't a proper talker. Her mouth is filthy but no one can ever say she didn't raise her kids right, with my dad of course. Jesus is very important on this property.

"Sorry, " I mumbled to Matt

"It's all good. I like her, "

"Talk to me again when the night is over, " I said sarcastically getting a laugh out of him.

"Hi, Mr.Walker, " Matt said acknowledging my father.

"Awww come on in man, " my dad said giving him the bro hug knocking Matt's lungs out.

"You must be Sarah"

"The one and only!" Sarah said hugging him.

"Um Sarah hun take Matt upstairs and show him to his room please will ya?"

"Of course dad. Come on hulk, " she said taking the lead.

"Rachel!" my mom said from the kitchen.

"Coming mom!" I said heading her way.

Our house wasn't small. It was a decent size actually. Five bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms plus a finished basement with a man cave.  My dad had it custom built when they were first moving in.

"Alright I got the rice, curry chicken, mac and cheese, and salad done. I tried doing your famous double chocolate cake but it's not the same so please..."

"You got it! I'll even make my lemonade, "

"You're the best daughter ever, "

"Hey!" Sarah said walking into the kitchen with Matt.

"Forgive me Lord, " my mom said earning a smile from my sister.

"Is there anything you need me to do?" Matt asked.

Wrong question love. I thought as I got the ingredients out.

"Yes!" my mom said getting a bunch of spoons.

Here we go.

She got some samples of the food she cooked and stuffed the mac and cheese in Matts mouth. Literally.

"Thoughts?" she asked

Matt took a while cheewing before swallowing and answering. "I love it, "

"I love it?" my mom and sister said together

Oh boy.

Matt looked at me with a confusing look.

I gave him my best sorry look before disappearing into the pantry.

"Use your adjectives is it creamy, hard, crunchy, soft, soggy,"

"Ummm it's slightly crispy when you first bite into it but then the more you chew you get like a creamy texture and you start to taste all the different cheese. I think I tasted cheddar, gouda, gruyere..."

"Atta boy, " my mom said pleased.

"What about this one?" she said as she shoved a spoon of God knows what into his mouth.

I loved how we'll he fit in with my family. I looked around feeling proud to see them together my eyes landing on my dad's watching me. I smiled and he smiled back nodding his head once. I knew then and there I had his approval.
